Top Ten Things You Shouldn't Judge Based on School Studies

I noticed how most of the time the teacher's opinion is more accurate than the coursebook itself. Your opinion might or might not be more accurate than the teacher's, but there are a lot of things taught at school you can ignore.
The Top Ten
1 Math

A woman once wrote a letter to Raymond Smullyan in which she tells her son adores his book The Lady or The Tiger but hates Maths at school. It's no surprise. Of course we shouldn't teach Raymond Smullyan at school, but key changes should be made:
1. No need for sums with high-digit numbers in primary school. Everyone will end up using a calculator.
2. In most exercises, it should be students who has to discover what to use from what they hhave been taught yet. It shouldn't be like "Kids, now we are going to practise the pigeon hole theory". Most exercises should be bulked and students should start solving them with no clue in order to make them think.
3. Less identical routine exercises!

I love math, but I really hate school, especially math class. (Geometry)

2 Achilles

Why is he adored? He desecrated a dead body and gave it to dogs, used his mom as a 24/7 arm service, neglected his country, treated women as objects, he killed innocent people with no strategical reason, and all he ever thinks about is himself. If you still loved him after Iliad, tell me why.

Just like all myths and legends, or actual history because it's "inappropriate" to give us the actual stories. I can see why, but at least don't distort them to the point where it's not even the same story anymore.

We still love Achilles because the human species loves Alpha males. Every culture, everywhere, ever. We always will, its in the DNA.

3 Religion

About christianity, all we talk about in school are the Bible, religious paintings and epic poems, Christian persecution and pagan persecution. For people of other religion, these mean almost nothing and provide little true information about Christianity.

With the case of other religions, the situation is even worse.

4 Christopher Columbus Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, navigator, colonizer and citizen of the Republic of Genoa.

No need to say why.

He was a scumbag

5 Taxonomy

There's no such things classic Pisces. There's no such phylum Gymnospermatophyta. No clade Protostomia. No clade Procaryota. Cyanobacteria are not outside Bacteria. Insectiphilia is not the oldest ordo of placentals. If would be easier to count the true stuff taught about taxons.

6 Loanwords

In my Hungary (and I bet in every country including Germany), we always complain about the English words we use.
1. Some of these words are not even English. We say "hepiend" instead of "happy ending". German word Handy is not English as well.
2. Schoolbooks are reccommending pretty awkward words instead of the English-like ones. E.g. instead of telefon, we are recommended to use távbeszélő instead. This word sounds very archaic here and only the post office uses it.

3. It would be much more important to concentrate on English-like sentence structures and bad amateur translations of films and books that destroy every language.

7 U.S. Presidents

Almost every president of the U.S. in school is presented either wholly positive or wholly negative.

8 Attila the Hun Attila, frequently called Attila the Hun, was the ruler of the Huns from 434 until his death in March 453.

Yes, he did quite a lot terrible things, but let people realise that everybody else in his age did (and had to do) the same. The big Roman emperors weren't less cruel towards foreign nationalities.

9 Gladiators

They weren't always let together until they killed each other. Some of them were "admired" entertainers who could fight more times and received medical treatment.

10 Human species

You might think the obsolete theory that work, speaking and thinking differentiates people from animals is not taught in school anymore. I am 16 and I was taught this is 5th grade. First of all, humans ARE animals. The most ridicolous of the three factors mentioned is thinking.

"We're different from animals because we can control FIRE! "
Think about that for a second

The Contenders
11 Writing

As in the art. Teachers treat it like it's going to always be a clear path from point A to Z. But you never know, you might change point G and the whole story will go off course.
