I gotta say that they don't deserve top 10 in terms of having a distinct sound yet they are quite distinct but there is too much competition but surely should be in top 50 and one of the best live performances you'll ever see but they are uniquely British sound that does not translate to all other palates like AmericaV 1 Comment
Pioners in indie folk and indie rock music, their lyrics and instrumentation make them one of the most memorable and original bands of all time
They really helped the pop punk genre grow
Fused country & rock & vocal harmony to perfection before anyone else. Changed the face of country forever but none that have followed match their mainstream appeal or influence. And #1 selling album of last century. From "Take it Easy" to "Hotel California" they had it all.
Definitely hybrid band one of the greatest bands in the history of music, not just the pinion but actual fact and their catalogue is absolutely loaded and a very very distinctive sound
Falling in Reverse is the most amazing band ever
How are Opeth not in the top 3? Their sound is so unique in the fact it seamlessly blends folk, death metal, and even jazz, with very beautiful melodic parts. The transitions between extremely heavy and melodic and beautiful work so perfectly, and never before have I heard growls mixed with cleans in such a stark contrast, but at the same time goes together so well. This is a unique brand of progressive rock/metal that will leave your mind blown, and at the same time utterly tranquil. The dark beauty of this band is completely addicting, and I have never heard anything like it. I know this rant is all over the place, but come on its Opeth we are talking about, they are all over the place too in a great way!
Opeth is one of those bands you really like, but sadly only a few people know them. - Pony
Modest mouse is a really good and original band. 30 seconds to mars is not original, so why are they on this list? - Imreallyboredrightnow
Inventors of the "Loud Soft Loud" style heard on hundreds of hits to come. The most influential and underrated band you never heard of because they were so ahead of their time. Smart bands and artists of the early 90s knew how original they were, kept it a secret, and made a fortune by writing more-mainstream, less-weird versions of Pixies songs. Give their masterpiece "Doolittle" a spin and be inspired.
Nirvana, Radiohead, David Bowie, U2, The Strokes, Weezer and Bush have cited influence by the Pixies. Kurt Cobain & Dave Grohl have both said that "Smells Like Teen Spirit"- arguably the greatest alt rock anthem of all time - was essentially a rip of the Pixies.
This list was made for the pixies because it doesn't get any more distinct then the sound of Frank black and the pixies
They did something incredible (yes they took inspiration from The Beatles) they brought together 3 genres of music...
Pop, Rock, and Classical
something that has never been done before...
Punk rock?!? What's wrong with you. These guys are terrible and incredibly far from punk rock.
Who else could blend a violin into punk rock?
Okay this seriously blows my mind that they are so far down on the list but I guess I can just attribute that to too many millennials votingV 1 Comment
The strokes had an incredibly distinctive sound that could not be confused with any other group but in their last album their sound change 180° to an 80s synthesised rock sound from a very New York crunchy guitar 4/4 beat rock 'n' roll sound but both distinctive in their own rights but less distinct in the new experimental album
