Naruto Uzumaki is a fictional character in the anime and manga franchise Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. Naruto ends up the Nine Tailed Fox Spirit sealed inside him at birth the spirit that nearly destroyed the whole village years earlier, because of his secret he is ostracized by everyone, with no parents or friends and everyone avoiding him he constantly acts out not because he means any harm but because he desperately want's everyone to notice him.
I created a charecter who has a worse past that stupid Naruto. I didn't think that a character with such an OK past would be the top...

Edward Elric, commonly nicknamed Ed, is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga series and its adaptations created by Hiromu Arakawa. He needs to be number one. Out of all of the anime I have seen, and out of all the protagonists I have met along the way, this should be at the very top- not second place.

But his dearest friend and the leader of the band, Griffith, sacrificed The Band of the Hawk to the demons to gain godly powers and Guts had to see them get sliced to pieces by demons in hell. Really? naruto is number 1? compared to this guy, naruto had an easy life. Guts literally was born out of his mother's hanging corpse. and its not that he was born, but that he literally forced himself out as a baby that hadnt even been born yet. and that's tame compared to what happens to him later. The fact that this man still lives is a testament to his insane will to live and how much of a damn badass he is.
Can't even begin to describe how much this badass has gone through, easily the most tragic character in anime, maybe even in all of media itself.
Gaara is a fictional character in the Naruto manga and anime series created by Masashi Kishimoto. He is the jinchuuriki of the one-tailed shukaku and can control sand that is stored in his gourd. What? He suffered more than naruto!
He was called "monster" because he couldn't control sand, he can't sleep because shukaku can possess him when he sleeps, his father wanted to kill him, and then his uncle (the only person who really loved him) tried to kill him and makes him belive he hates him.

Ok, so there's Naruto, Nagato, Itachi..But no GAARA?! He suffered WAY more than any of them! He was rejected by all of his villagers and unlike Naruto, didn't have Iruka, or Kakashi, or ANYONE! Even his own siblings were scared of him.No to mention his only "family" his aunt, tried to kill him.At her own will! That's... come on, people, show some empathy!
Gaara has a worse past than Naruto, after he finally got his village and some other people like Naruto to accepted him he was basically killed! I mean what the hell Masashi Kishimoto!
Itachi deserves the first place, they guy had to suffer his entire life and was forced to kill any kind of happyness he had in his life. Even worse is that the had to make the one person he could never harm hate him and make his suffer only so he could grow strong and kill him.
If that is not tragic I don't know what is.
If there is talk about character with tragic past. Itachi should be number 1 because he killed his own clan and parents with his own hand for the sake of the village and hated by all people in the shinobi world. Whats more tragic than that.
Need to kill your entire clan, kill by your own brother that you loved so much and to respect you want to destroy the village that you save itachi deserves to be number 1. Naruto are you kidding me your father is the 4th hokage that can die for you huh
Itachi's backstory is unsurpassed as far as tragedy goes. To kill those you loved with your own hands, and be exiled and treated as a blight upon shinobi everywhere is a shakepeare level tragedy. He should be number 1.
Under the harsh, abusive training of his father(Endeavor), young Todoroki vomited and cried repeatedly. When his mother would defend him, Endeavor would hit her in front of Shouto. Once, His mom no longer had the mental stability to raise her son. After seeing Shoto's left side which reminded her of Endeavor, she snapped and threw boiling water at him, leaving a scar over his left eye.
I love Deku but in my opinion, Todoroki had a more tragic and painful past than he did.

Kaneki's past is very tragic. Being abused and manipulated from the age of 4; which led him to believe that if he was hurt, he deserved it. Having to delude himself so that he thought his mum loved him. Being neglected after his mum died. Then he became a ghoul and was TORTURED! He was also stabbed in the brain and given amnesia. During this time, he was tormented by his past self non stop (this was a dream to him). Getting his skull split didn't help and watching the only man he ever called a father commit suicide also didn't help.
But the worst thing he's been through, worse than all of that, was being in a bad adaptation.
What happened to him was so tragic and unfortunate. If only he hadn't fallen for Rize. This guy has the most tragic past to me, right before Kiritsugu Emiya. For those of you that don't know the anime or the manga, Ken Kaneki was a regular human boy whose father had died while he was still an infant and his mother had died when he was in elementary school. He loved books and reading and was extremely lonely and had one friend growing up. One day when he was nineteen, he took an interest in a girl named Rize that he met at a coffee shop called Anteiku. He lost his Dad when he was very young and had an abusive mother who died when he was around ten. He was then taken in by his abusive aunt and changed his memory to think he had a nice mum. Of course there was the whole Rize thing which started a new life of tragedy. There was his torture. He was also stabbed in the brain by Arima twice to become Haise. That was a dream to him. But it wasn't in my opinion. Haise was haunted by Kaneki and was even hurt by him. Then he got his skull split and remembered the truth about his mum. He saw the only person he saw as a father slit his own throat in front of him. Please don't even get me started on dragon.
His mum was a horrible human being to him! She abused him! And that made Kaneki, who was trying to escape reality about his mum, made him think his mother was a kind person to him... that is just messed up...

Gintoki Sakata is a fictional character in the manga and anime franchise Gin Tama created by Hideaki Sorachi. Born in a war era not knowing his parents he had no food to it so he ate the corpse of the dead soldiers. Thus, got his name corpse eating demon then het met his master yoshida shouyo then participated in a war to get his master back and had to kill his own master to save the lives of his friends. Then when he finally started to living a normal life his master came back as a monster who wants to kill everyone. That's depressing
Not to mention, as he finally got himself a new family and friends, people from his past come back to haunt him and hurt his new family, like takasugi, and utsuro. He was just about recovering from shoyou's death when he was forced to turn against the now 'alive' shouyou. He is fiercely protective if his family and is willing to die for them because he had lost everything once before.
Why is he so so low on no. 24 he was a war orphan surrounded by corpse not even knowing who his parents were when he got hungry he ate corpses to survive then he met yoshida shoyo his master who was taken from him then he got to save his friends who were captured by killing his master
There's some pretty dark pasts in anime, but I can confidently say that Gintoki has one of the darkest:
(SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!) He was an orphan born in the war, looting corpses and killing to survive, to a point of being called a "Corpse-eating demon".
During one of his searches, whilst eating a rice ball stolen from a corpse in a deserted battlefield, he was found by Yoshida Shouyou, who commented that Gintoki was a "cute demon." Gintoki drew a sword he had stolen off another dead body in self-defense. However, Shouyou told him that a sword used for self-defense, while fearing others, should be thrown away. He entrusted his sword to Gintoki, saying that he could follow him if he wanted to learn how to use a sword. Gintoki agreed and later became his student. Along with Katsura Kotarou and Takasugi Shinsuke, he studied swordplay under the teachings of Shouyou, and Gintoki grew ever-stronger, slowly beginning to learn to trust others.
