L (Death Note)
L Lawliet, known exclusively by the mononym L, is a fictional character in the manga series Death Note. He was created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata. L is a highly intelligent and eccentric detective who takes on the challenge of capturing the mysterious killer known as Kira.
L is just supernaturally smart. For example, from the first time he met Light-kun, he suspected him of being Kira. He contributed everything to solving the hardest case that none of the others on this list could solve. Also, he had an awesome character.
The legendary anime character who went against Kira and outwitted him before Near or any of the other detectives could. L died knowing he had completed his case and believing Light (Kira) would share the same fate as him.
Of course he's first! He's L! His quirkiness, superhuman intellect, and unique personality make him one of the most lovable characters ever. Furthermore, he's hilarious.

This is way underrated! The plots are very well thought out, and every case is actually connected to one larger backstory.

If it weren't for Kyoko and Makoto carrying everyone in the trials, they would all die. Seriously, it's like those two (and maybe Byakuya) were the only ones to look at any of the crime scenes for more than five seconds.
Kyoko basically found out who the killers were before anyone else. Without her, everyone would die in DR.
