Top 10 Worst Anime Fanbases
There's nothing wrong with loving anime. Obsessing over it? Still fine. But the moment someone starts a comment war because you said a character might lose in a fight, it's time to back away slowly and reevaluate your life choices. I'm a fan of most of these shows myself, but I have to admit their fanbases are unbearable at times. And just to clarify, not all fans are like this. Just a few of them. A very loud, very meme-generating few.
You've probably run into them online. The ones who think watching 900 episodes of something gives them license to talk down to anyone who hasn't. Or the ones who spam forums with the same power-scaling argument for the fiftieth time this week. Some just can't separate fiction from reality. Others act like their favorite anime is a religion and you just blasphemed by suggesting someone else could maybe, possibly, slightly prefer a different show.
So what are the worst anime fanbases? That's for you to decide. Vote for the ones you think have crossed the line from passionate to painful.

Fairy Tail Fanbase
Fairy Tail is a manga franchise created by Hiro Mashima. It was adapted into an anime series produced by A-1 Pictures and Satelight, which first aired in Japan on October 12, 2009. The franchise also includes several original video animations and a feature film titled Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess... read more
NaLu, Natsu, and Erza fans can be pretty rude. Shipping wars occur frequently in this fandom, and most characters are fairly overrated, especially Natsu and Erza. Natsu has no chance of beating Naruto, and Erza is very far from being the strongest anime female. It's a fact.
Not gonna lie, we can get pretty rabid and annoying real fast. And don't even get me started on the shipping wars.

Sword Art Online Fanbase
Sword Art Online is a series of Japanese light novels written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. In 2012, it was adapted into an anime by A-1 Pictures and the SAO Project, directed by Tomohiko Ito. The first season features two arcs, "Aincrad" and "Fairy Dance," and it was followed by a second... read more
So apparently, I met a couple of people who decided that Sword Art Online was the best sports anime because apparently Sword Art Online is an EA sport. They then started to argue that SAO is better than every single other series because Kirito is a great character. When I said that I think certain anime were better, they started using every single insult and just went on a rant about how SAO is the best anime ever while insulting me.
I don't like the show, and I can tell you the haters are worse. But that does not excuse how bad the fans are.

One-Punch Man Fanbase
One-Punch Man is a webcomic created by ONE in 2009 that was later adapted into both a manga and an anime series. It gained widespread popularity and went viral in 2012, amassing millions of views. The story follows Saitama, who is named after Saitama Prefecture, as he seeks an opponent strong enough... read more
Saitama can defeat whoever is pitted against him with ONE PUNCH! ... I'm tired of this argument.

Why isn't this no. 1? I mean, these guys are the most immature and childish guys I have ever seen. Maybe even worse than the DBZ fanbase.
These guys hate some characters too much. They constantly keep praising others like Itachi, Naruto, and Kakashi while downplaying characters like Sakura, Sasuke, Obito, and all. But seriously, Kakashi was a great character compared to the other two (Naruto and Itachi). On the other hand, there's Naruto, who can't win a single fight without plot armor or an ass pull.
And seriously, no other fandom had the word "retard" suit them as well as Naruto. "Narutards"
It has many good fans, but the majority are kind of idiots who think Naruto is the best anime in any genre. One guy had an argument that Naruto is the best sports anime! 'What? Naruto a sports anime?' My reaction...
Naruto fans are bound to have arguments and give pointless explanations to justify how good Naruto is.
-
Dragon Ball Z Fanbase
Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. It follows the adventures of Goku and the Z Warriors as they protect Earth from various villains. The series emphasizes themes of good versus evil and teaches values such as teamwork, loyalty, and perseverance.
They're on every social media platform nowadays. Some of the most problematic people I've ever known.
I'm not going to say that they're all bad because there are some who aren't, but there are a lot of people who treat Dragon Ball like it's the second coming of Christ. Of course, it's better to differentiate the show and its fanbase.
Well, I like Dragon Ball, but the fans of this generation are so toxic that they would literally act like they are the best among the best. I am not talking about all of them. And I added "of this generation" because early fans of DB were the true heroes, as without them Toriyama would have made Gohan the protagonist and removed Goku from being the protagonist. But this generation is not so worth it. I think they would kill or try to kill or give harmful threats to the author if he ever tries to change the protagonist again.
-
One Piece Fanbase
One Piece is a manga franchise created by Eiichiro Oda. The manga was adapted into an original video animation (OVA) produced by Production I.G in 1998. The anime series produced by Toei Animation began broadcasting in Japan in 1999 and, as of now, has aired 851 episodes.
Just how is it fun to talk about the same anime for decades and try to put every other anime down just because they like OP? Probably most of the fanbase are depressed kids whose parents don't love them, so they attack other fanbases and at least get some attention. This makes them feel like they exist. Truly the most pathetic fanbase to ever exist.
If you ever encounter an OP fan in the wild, just ignore them if you don't want to lose brain cells.
I'm in this fanbase, and it's worse than any other. They act like Oda is a god and refuse to hear criticism. They still cry about Ace. They act like this show has so many sad and emotional moments. I can name many sad moments, but they overhype them. Some say that Luffy can beat Naruto. They also say it's the best anime and give no argument.

Attack on Titan Fanbase
Attack on Titan, known in Japan as Shingeki no Kyojin, is a widely acclaimed anime series created by Hajime Isayama. The series premiered in Japan in April 2013 and debuted in English in the United States in 2014. It is recognized for its emotional storytelling, post-apocalyptic setting, and thrilling... read more
The fanbase used to be okay, but then it got worse and worse over the years. Now that Season 4 has come out, Eren fans have shown their true colors by being really arrogant and obnoxious. They have ruined the once-good reputation this fandom had.
Got some news. They sent death threats to an animator in a Season 4 episode because they didn't like it. Amazing series, but the fanbase not only is toxic, they are the whole swamp. Put this in the Top 3.
The Attack on Titan fanbase in 2013 was so unbearable to deal with. Now that Season 2 is coming, that aspect of the fanbase will arise from the depths of hell.

Black Butler Fanbase
Black Butler is a Japanese anime television series produced by A‑1 Pictures. It premiered in October 2008 and is based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Yana Toboso.

Some of the toxic yaoi fangirls literally support pedophilia. Shipping a young boy who lost his family with a demonic butler who is centuries old is crazy. It's crazy that in one of the scenes, the boy witnesses a panic attack, and the toxic fandom makes jokes of the situation. Disgusting!
I couldn't agree more with the people who also commented. I am a huge Black Butler fan, and I find it so disgusting how they ship a 12-year-old with a man who has the appearance of a 28-year-old. I rarely see people who do not ship these two, and it's terrifying.
I myself watch a lot of BL, but I would never dare to ship these two together. I also feel bad for the creators of the manga, knowing full well people make false accusations that they were meant to be together but it changed. This anime wasn't made for you toxic BL fans to ship an adult with a minor.
Ciel might have the attitude of a grown-up, but it doesn't change the fact that he is a child who even has temper tantrums! Learn to appreciate it for the story, you weirdos!
-
My Hero Academia Fanbase
My Hero Academia is an adventure and superhero manga series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi. It began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2014. The story follows Izuku Midoriya, a boy born without superpowers in a world where they are common, as he trains to become a professional hero.
I never thought there would be anything worse than communists. Boy, was I wrong. Now don't get me wrong, I might watch this anime later in the future because currently, I watch about three anime. All of them are about Kaiju. But holy smokes, is this fandom bad.
I've read that they tried to make the protagonist gay! They also sent death threats, and holy crap, do they ship. They put together 16-year-old teens and, like, 30-year-olds! Why? This show is about superheroes, and it's supposed to be a comedy. But what do these people do? They try to make it as bad as possible. When will these a-holes learn that you don't need to ship every bloody person! They need to get under control and see what other fandoms like the Godzilla, Kong, and Pacific Rim fandoms do. Those fandoms keep the shippers under control and actually collaborate with other fandoms to make incredible websites like Gojipedia. These people don't.
-
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Fanbase
They crap all over lots of classic rock songs in the comment sections on YouTube videos, with examples being "Roundabout" by Yes, "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by AC/DC, and "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen. Take your "Is this a JoJo reference?" meme and shove it up your ass!
Don't even get me started on the manga elitists and those who intentionally spoil it for those who just prefer to watch the anime. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my all-time favorite animes, but like anything else, the fans are highly questionable. The memes are not funny, and some of them are very offensive. I get they're passionate, but they need to stop shoving it down other people's throats. The series is very complex and long, so pressuring people to read the manga is not cool.

Boku no Pico Fanbase
Are there people existing in this world that actually like Boku No Pico?
This shouldn't even have a fanbase. No explanation needed.
-
Hetalia Fanbase
Just a bunch of stereotypes of people of different races. I guess the author is just a racist dude.
The only actually racist thing Tumblr won't call racist.
This show is often stereotyped with a fanbase that wants to be impregnated by the male characters. Besides that, the fans will actually not leave you alone if you breathe at it the wrong way.

Death Note Fanbase
Death Note is a Japanese anime television series based on the manga created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. These guys think that they are intellectuals and geniuses. They are always fighting about who is smarter, L or Light. They will not take constructive criticism and make fun of people who haven't watched it. The anime is great, but the fanbase is toxic.
While the anime is beautiful, the fanbase is absolutely atrocious. All around, you'll get "Light VS. L" battles, or "Is Light really a bad guy?" or "Is L a criminal?", etc. If you disagree with anyone, you'll instantly get attacked, called unspeakable names, and told to "kill yourself" or the like. That's not even bringing up the Yaoi fangirls who insist on shipping Light X L, and if you happen to even dislike the ship, you'll be attacked for it.
Not to mention the self-righteous people who insist their theories/headcanons are 100% correct and refuse to take any opinions other than their own. This is easily one of the worst fanbases I've ever been in, though I won't allow that to ruin the anime for me.

Hunter x Hunter Fanbase
Hunter × Hunter is a manga series created by Yoshihiro Togashi. In 1999, it was adapted into a 62-episode anime television series produced by Nippon Animation and directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi. The original show aired on Japan's Fuji TV and ran until 2001.... read more
In my experience, the fanbase of Hunter x Hunter is not that bad. However, I sometimes stumble upon some unpleasant things, such as people behaving inappropriately with *children*. Seriously, pedophilia is not okay, and if you are one, you should seek help.
Another issue is the fangirls of Killua and Hisoka. Don't get me wrong, Hisoka is one of my favorite characters (other than Illumi), but there are people who will attack others online because they believe that their character is the best anime character ever written and no one else's opinion is valid.
Regardless, it is a great anime and don't let the toxic corners of the fanbase keep you from watching it!
Come on, guys. That's all the reasons you could think of? Don't get me wrong, I love Hunter x Hunter, but the fans are just a bunch of elitists. They think of themselves as intellectuals and refuse to take any form of criticism toward the show. Anyone who criticizes HxH to them is an idiot. The show is great, but there are still flaws that can be criticized.

Up until the Rebuild movies, this fanbase treated this franchise like the end-all, be-all for anime, that nothing will ever get close to its genius. While I think the series is great, the fans act like the manchildren otaku that its creator himself probably has hinted at not liking. Giving him a stable living though.
They love to not understand an anime and search for clues to create theories.
They overanalyze the show way too much. Even the creator admitted it wasn't that deep.

Bleach Fanbase

While not a bad series itself, some of its fans, which seem to overlap with Naruto and Kingdom Hearts fans, are some of the most obnoxious people I've ever met.
This is a fanbase that clearly doesn't care for abridged-style jokes and will fly into a storm over literal nothing burgers. They do the same thing if you legitimately criticize the manga or anime, such as how terrible the Thousand-Year Blood War arc is and how it ended, and just how unlikeable and rehashed the Vandenreich are.
They're not all that bad. On the defensive side, yes, but who can blame them after being ridiculed for liking a great and awesome series?

Yes. This fandom is one I'm both ashamed of and proud to be in. I'm not proud of how people hate people who like Teruteru or Hifumi (I'm not a big fan of either). I remember getting yelled at for liking an AU where Mukuro and Junko were good siblings. They said I shipped incest. No, I was just liking a sibling dynamic and the fact that Junko, in an AU, would be nice to Mukuro and support her. And oh god, the Komahina stans. I used to not ship Komahina and wasn't afraid to say it. I got attacked by people a lot.
There's a lot more I could say, but I don't want to waste your time.
I remember someone online called me a rapist just because I didn't hate this character called Teruteru... I don't even go outside, to be frank.

Love Live! Fanbase

Nisekoi Fanbase
While it was still ongoing, Nisekoi's fans would have full-blown online wars over who was best girl. This happens for a lot of harem anime/manga, but it was a lot more present with Nisekoi.
You know, all those Team Chitoge vs. Team Onodera wars...
