Best Female Rock Singers of the 2000s

The Top Ten
1 Kimberly Freeman

Absolutely fantastic singer!

2 Amy Lee Amy Lynn Hartzler, known professionally as Amy Lee, is an American singer-songwriter, classically trained pianist and composer. She is also the lead singer to the Arkansas band Evanescence.

Who? Who is this Kimberly Freeman woman they have in front of Amy? Let's just put her aside for a second and say that Amy should be at the top of this list in the first place, but being put behind some unknown is awful. Amy takes top spot. She deserves it.

Why is Amy Lee at the top of this list when there are so many better singers? Yes she is a good singer but Tarja, Sharon den Adel, Simone Simons, Floor Jansen, Charlotte Wessels, Lizzie Hale, Haley Williams & Cristina Scabbia are far superior singers.

I love Avril and Amy. I love them so much, but if made to chose one I would pick Amy because of her amazing vocals. Avril is good because of her lyrical content. I really enjoy both

3 Lzzy Hale Elizabeth Mae "Lzzy" Hale is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. She is best known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the American hard rock band Halestorm, which she co-founded in 1997.

Amazing vocal range, killer live performances, great person to meet and talk to before the shows. Her vast array of song choices, her willingness to take risks with songs that may not be what some would consider "normal" for a female singer, her ability to go from very melodic, soft, slow and touching music such as The Silence to songs that are edgy, hard, power driven songs like Freak Like Me, I Get Off etc. to songs like Familiar Taste Of Poison are what make her such an amazing performer and talent that you have to see live to appreciate. She is able to sing just as well live as she does in the studio, unlike many who cannot duplicate their studio sound because it has been so heavily augmented. She is one of the best female artists and performers I have ever seen.

"The strange case of..." is one of the best female rock albums of all time, and her vocal performance on "I Am the Fire" on their "Into The Wildlife" album is absolutely mind blowing. Halestorm is far and away one of the best female fronted rock bands of all time, and it's a damn shame that she isn't in the top 3 on this list, because she absolutely deserves to be.

4 Shirley Manson Shirley Ann Manson is a Scottish-born singer, songwriter and actress. She is the lead vocalist of the alternative rock band Garbage.

If you can listen to "It's Only Happy When It Rains" without singing along, you have no soul...

5 Alanis Morissette Alanis Nadine Morissette is a Canadian-American alternative rock singer-songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and actress.
6 Hayley Williams Hayley Nichole Williams is an American singer, songwriter and musician. She is best known as the lead vocalist, occasional keyboardist and primary songwriter of the American rock band Paramore. In 2020 she started a solo career.

You've gotta be kidding! Hayley Williams, the most awesome rock singer is down here? She should be at least in top ten or at Avril Lavigne's place! Hayley is liked by many people, men, women, young or old (believe me I'm sure of what I'm saying, my mom likes some of Paramore's songs) she has a damn hell of a wide vocal range.

These aren't just the best things about her, she can actually write songs and is the kindest, down-to-earth, and humble as well as a good role model to young girls. Avril Lavigne isn't even rock, and is worshipped by 10 year-olds who are tone deaf.

Hayley is the best. Literally. Her tone, her range, her spunk on stage. All in this tiny package. And she's just an AWESOME person. She will go down in history as one of the voices of our generation.

Awesome voice, fantastic charisma and energy on stage, and great songwriting ability. Seriously...She absolutely deserves to be in the top 5 of all time!

7 Lacey Mosley

"All Around Me", "I'm So Sick", "Alive" and "Fully Alive" are Awesome! I also love her in "Broken Pieces" by Apocalyptica!

8 Fiona Apple
9 Yvonne Muentener

Yvonne Muentener from Switzerland is a fantastic rock star. Already as a teenager Yve was a great star up on stages. At that time she was the lead singer of jazz- and blues bands. In between she sang gospel in churches during big weddings. I love her voice, lyrics, look and of course her funny and sexy attitude. To me she is the best and most charismatic singer and songwriter.

I work in music business since about 40 years. In my opinion has the Swiss rock singer Yvonne Muentener YVE the greatest and most powerful voice I ever heard. Her lyrics are hilarious.

She is absolutely awesome and incompairable. The range of her voice is amazing, the power of her voice is overwhelming and her charisma is just wonderful.

10 Florence Welch Florence Leontine Mary Welch is an English musician, singer, and songwriter. She is best known as the lead vocalist of the indie rock band Florence + the Machine.

She deserves to be in the top ten, in my opinion, much higher than Avril Lavigne! Her voice is so original, she is an extremely talented song writer and incredible live.

I very rarely love every bit of content produced by an artist but her voice is enchanting and the lyrics are powerful.

Her voice is iconic, her lyrics are unique, and her sound is so original.

"Howl", "Spectrum", "Rabbit Heart"... enough Said...

The Contenders

Amy Lee is great but no one can deny that Tarja is left behind! No way! She is one of my favorite singers of all time! I'm currently listening to Forever Yours and obsessing over Deep Silent Complete!

Tarja has the most beautiful voice I had ever heared!
She is amazing, she is the best on stage! M/

12 Avril Lavigne Avril Ramona Lavigne is a Canadian–French singer-songwriter and actress. By the age of 15, she had appeared on stage with Shania Twain; by 16, she had signed a two-album recording contract with Arista Records worth more than $2 million.

Her music has got energy and rhythm, her lyrics is touching too!

I love her voice.. And she's very beautiful..

She writes all her songs and sing live people! Love her voice too

13 Ann Wilson Ann Dustin Wilson (born June 19, 1950) is an American musician, best known as the lead singer and songwriter of the hard rock band Heart. Ann is in the Rock Hall of Fame with Heart, and is listed as one of the best metal singers of all time by Hit Parader. She is widely viewed as one of, if not the greatest female hard rock singer of all time.
14 Cristina Scabbia Cristina Adriana Chiara Scabbia is an Italian singer and lyricist, best known as one of the two vocalists in the Italian Gothic metal band Lacuna Coil.

She's awesome! She should be at least on the top 2!

15 Sharon den Adel Sharon den Adel, Dutch singer and the vocalist of symphonic rock band Within Temptation.

Together with her partner, Robert Westerholt, den Adel is one of the founding members of Within Temptation. She has defined their work as epic and cinematic. Her vocals play a major role in the band's sound, despite having never received formal vocal training. Den Adel sings in the mezzo-soprano range but... read more

For someone who has had no vocal training Sharon is so far ahead of the rest. Her voice has both power and emotion. No one can match her singing live especially Amy Lee who sucks live.

She's the best. One of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.
On the album The Heart Of Everything you can easily hear the great power and lovely voice of Sharon den Adel.

Sharon den Adel has one of the most addictive voices I have ever heard. I am amazed she is not top of this list.

16 Bjork Björk Guðmundsdóttir, (born 21 November 1965) is an Icelandic singer, songwriter, composer, record producer and actress. Over her four-decade career, she has developed an eclectic musical style that draws on influences and genres including electronic, pop, jazz, experimental, trip hop, alternative, classical, and avant-garde music.

Her music is not clearly "rock" but avant-garde. I don't mind because she's very very great.

17 PJ Harvey Polly Jean Harvey, known as PJ Harvey, is an English musician, singer-songwriter, writer, poet, and composer.

She's an acquired taste. Her music and lyrics are amazing.

She should be in the top 5 for sure! So original

18 Simone Simons Simone Johanna Maria Simons is a Dutch singer-songwriter. She is the lead vocalist of Dutch symphonic metal band Epica.

I'm so sick of seeing Amy Lee at the top of every list similar to this one. She's a good singer yeah but Simone, Tarja, Sharon etc deserve just as much or more praise than her.
Anyways Simone is just amazing, her vocals are just breath taking

Agree about Amy Lee, there are so much more singers who are far superior to her, Simone being one.

19 Christy Johnson
20 Taylor Momsen Taylor Michel Momsen is an American musician, singer, model, and former actress. She is known for portraying the character of Jenny Humphrey on the CW teen drama series Gossip Girl and Cindy Lou Who in the film How the Grinch Stole Christmas!.
