Top 10 Commonly Used Sayings or Quotes That Are False

The Top Ten

1 “Anything is possible.”

tell that to a fat kid who will never be over 5 feet tall and has a heart condition and bone disorder, who wants to be a professional basketball player when he grows up.

March Madness enough said. Although filling out a perfect bracket is actually impossible

2 “Practice makes perfect.”

If you were "perfect", you would be bland, boring, and nobody would want to hang out with you. Being imperfect makes you actually interesting, someone who's cool, and someone everyone loves. Can't people just learn that?
-Alana The Pony

True nothing makes perfect. Perfection just is just not attainable. I wonder what would be a better alternative to this phrase.

Wrong. Believe it or not it’s possible that if you don’t practice the right way you won’t improve. You can’t just expect to get better by chucking a basketball at a hoop you have to work on dribbling and your shooting form.

Imperfection is what makes us exist. Without it, we would be ceased form existence. Let's just say almost perfect, yes?

Thanks for this comment. Was this a reference to how matter would not have clustered together in the early universe if it was evenly distributed?

3 “You can do anything if you put your mind to it.”

This is basically the same as the anything is possible one.

I would like to see how that turns out for me.

-8 y/o me
-Alana The Pony

4 “COVID-19 is just a flu with a 99% survival rate.”

Wrong! COVID-19 is the worst pandemic in human history and will kill more people than the black death and spanish flu combined. This disease will wipe out a third of the world's population and rebuilding could take millenia if even possible.

Um. No it is a very serious disease but there is no way it could be as bad as that.

Good luck having children then! Tell that to your children and grandchildren if you can survive!

Not true if you are over 65 years old, otherwise its pretty accurate.

It seems like it affects everyone differently

*100%

I mean it’s harder but still possible

7 "If everyone thought the same, that would be boring."

I ONLY believe this if you mean this literally. But for everyone who says Liv and Maddie is not a good show, don't YOU think it's boring that I love a show you don't like? And also, because you most likely like shows that I do not like. But think of it this way. Would wars exist without disagreement? Would racism exist without disagreement? And aren't stereotypes opinions too? So no, it would NOT be boring if everyone agreed on everything. If ANYTHING, it's boring NOT to agree. And no, liking things that are unpopular DOES NOT make me unique. And neither does DISliking things that are actually popular. What it DOES do, however, is it MAKES ME AN OUTCAST! This so-called "uniqueness" that everyone has IS repetitive, and not in a great way. In the WORST WAY! So no, it is NOT boring to agree on everything. Not if it means there being a world where I do NOT have to like things that are hated and dislike things that are popular. Everyone hates what I said in the Worst Quotes on TheTopTens ...more

Again, this only PROVES MY POINT! So I shouldn't bother trying to explain if you won't understand. But this only PROVES why it's NO FUN AT ALL to have unpopular opinions! It is NOT good to be misunderstood! But at least you like Liv and Maddie. But what about Oliver & Company, Gordy, The Fox and the Hound, or The Rescuers? Have you seen or liked any of them?

Except that is true and it doesn't take a genius to realize that. Maybe it's not always good, like wars, but it sure isn't "boring" of all things

It’s normal to have different opinions on everything

8 “Just ignore them and they’ll leave you alone.”

So just remember the next time you’re getting beat up and just ignore them! They’ll surely stop punching you. Self defense what is that?

Depends on what it is. The police tend not to leave you alone just because you ignore them.

9 “Homosexuality is a sin.”
10 “Once a cheater always a cheater.”

It’s possible to learn from your past but it’s like trust once you lose it it’s gone for good

-Alana the Pony

If this were true, then COVID-19 would not exist. Case closed!

12 "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

If this were true, I would NOT feel shame in everything I've done. Nor would anyone else. But you all remember those quotes that I said that everyone hated, and they offended EVERYONE. But on a related note, is it REALLY selfish to want a better world?

Depends on if you're close to the person that says it or not. When I say that, I mean if it's your parents or your long term significant other. Otherwise, letting words hurt you is usually on yourself to control.

words kill people

13 “All men ever think about is sex.”

I mean guys think about it because it’s just by nature but to say that’s all they ever think about is going overboard. But you also can’t accuse men of thinking about sex when women will dress “flashy and flirtatiously” and post it on social media they’re literally asking for it

The Mythbusters actually tested this, and it takes more force than you would expect.

16 "Coronavirus isn't actually real and it's just a myth by the Gov"
