Top 10 New Orleans Saints Players Going Into the 2025-26 Season

The Saints are honestly in a weird place right now. They aren't good enough to make a run at a Super Bowl, but also not bad enough to tank for a top draft pick. They're stuck in what I like to call the endless mediocrity loop.

Things just got really interesting with Derek Carr announcing his sudden retirement. I can't say I blame the guy for it. They weren't winning anything with Derek Carr anyway.

Things in New Orleans have sort of grown stale. It was clearly time for a change, and getting rid of Dennis Allen is a start. Kellen Moore will have his work cut out for him, though. This is a team that has a lot of aging talent or guys who are injury-prone.

Call me crazy, but I think they finish last in the division this season at the end of the day.

The Top Ten
  1. Alvin Kamara

Alvin Kamara is a very good running back. He's easily in the elite category without a doubt. Pretty much since his rookie season, he's been a top 5 running back in the NFL. Kamara is by far the Saints' best offensive player and best overall player at that.

Part of what makes Kamara so special is he's a dual threat. He's highly productive in both the run game and receiving game. He finished with 950 rushing yards in 2024 and 6 rushing touchdowns, placing top 25 overall in the league in both categories. Kamara was Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2017 and has been to 5 Pro Bowls. He is also the Saints' all-time leader in rushing yards.

While he's good, I don't think he's necessarily on a Hall of Fame trajectory. He lacks a 1,000-yard rushing season, and he's approaching 30, so age will become a factor going forward, as well as the fact he hasn't played a full season since his rookie year. Despite that, Kamara is great and still a very valuable asset to the Saints' offense.

  2. Chris Olave

Despite recent injury concerns, Chris Olave is still a great wide receiver. He's by far their best and most reliable receiver right now and has been for years.

Olave is an elite route runner and has shown the ability to get 1,000+ yards, proving he's consistently productive when healthy. He has the potential to make big plays. Unfortunately, health has been less than ideal recently. His 2024 numbers were disappointing, even with him missing half the season.

He can definitely still be good and should bounce back to form in 2025. He's easily the most reliable receiver in the Saints' offense currently.

  3. Demario Davis

Demario Davis is a very good linebacker who has been very consistent and productive. Even at 36 years old, Demario is still up there as one of the better linebackers in the league. He's made 2 Pro Bowls, a First Team All-Pro, and 4 Second Team All-Pros, all within the past few seasons.

Talk about someone durable, Demario Davis has barely missed any games at all in his career. He's also had 8 straight seasons of at least 100 tackles, with a career-high 136 in 2024. His stats last season were slightly down, but his 73.2 PFF rating was 37th out of 189 linebackers.

Demario is one of the best defensive players the Saints have. He's very versatile and a true leader on and off the field. He has a Hall of Fame case, but he has an outside shot at most.

  4. Cameron Jordan

Cameron Tyler Jordan is an American football defensive end for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Saints in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Over his career, Jordan has earned multiple Pro Bowl selections and has consistently ranked among the league leaders... read more

Cameron Jordan is a legend, simply put. He is the Saints' all-time leader in sacks. He's been to 8 Pro Bowls, 3 First Team All-Pros, and was named to the 2010s All-Decade Team.

Jordan is consistently productive and has been a true leader in the locker room for a long time. His productivity has declined in recent seasons, but to be fair, it's clear he's past his prime and in the twilight years of his NFL career. He finished the 2024 season with 4.0 sacks, 34 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 8 quarterback hits.

He has a good chance to wind up in Canton someday.

  5. Erik McCoy

I feel like Erik McCoy is one of the best players that nobody talks about. He's one of the better centers in the league, and his impact is certainly felt. McCoy is an anchor to that offensive line, and he excels in both pass protection and run blocking.

He's one of those players who doesn't always get the recognition he deserves, but when he's absent, the team struggles to function. PFF ranks him the best center in 2024 with a 94.4 overall grade. On top of that, PFF named him the best run blocker with a 94.6 grade, and his 79.7 grade in pass protection ranks top 5 overall. He has made back-to-back Pro Bowls, for what it's worth.

  6. Taliese Fuaga

Fuaga has already emerged as one of the better offensive tackles from his class, arguably the best rookie left tackle for that matter. He has solid run blocking and pass protection abilities.

He's generally been doing well holding his own. He's got a lot of potential and should take a leap in year 2.

  7. Tyrann Mathieu

Tyrann Devine Mathieu is an NFL safety well known for his playmaking ability and nickname The Honey Badger. He won Super Bowl LIV with the Kansas City Chiefs and has earned two All‑Pro selections and three Pro Bowls for his performances. Mathieu is highly regarded both for his on‑field versatility and... read more

Tyrann Mathieu is generally a good safety. He might be overrated to an extent, but he is a veteran presence with plenty of versatility in the secondary. On top of that, he's a true leader of the defense.

He does have 3 First Team All-Pros, 3 Pro Bowls, and a Super Bowl ring. I don't think he's a Hall of Fame caliber player, but he's still good, and he's remained very durable, barely missing games. In 2024, he had 3 interceptions and 62 tackles.

While he hasn't quite been the same player since leaving Kansas City, he's proven to be a valuable asset to the Saints' secondary, and he's still very productive for being in the league for over 12 years.

  8. Rashid Shaheed

Shaheed has a ton of upside and potential to be a valuable asset for the Saints. Shaheed has the potential to be a deep threat and is a low-risk option. He's a valuable asset as a wide receiver but also as a punt returner.

This guy has plenty of speed. He did make a Pro Bowl and First Team All-Pro in 2023. His 2024 was unfortunately cut short due to injury, but he should have a bounce-back year in 2025.

Assuming he can stay healthy, he should return to his 2023 level. He should be a valuable WR2 for the Saints.

  9. Juwan Johnson

Johnson has emerged as a viable target for the Saints' offense. He had a slow start but has become a reliable weapon, showing consistent improvement.

In the last 4 seasons, he has 18 touchdowns, ranking top 10 among all tight ends. In 2024, he had career highs in receptions (50) and receiving yards (548). He was also the Saints' leading receiver last season, with potentially a bigger role in 2025.

The Saints did recently extend his contract, so they see the value in him, even if they overpaid for him. He's better than Taysom Hill, for what it's worth. Johnson is a good weapon, but not what I'd call elite by any means.

  10. Justin Reid

Justin Reid is a solid safety in the NFL. He's a veteran who's proven he has leadership abilities. Reid is a strong tackler and a very versatile player, able to play multiple positions in the backfield.

Justin Reid may not be elite necessarily, but he's very good and talented. He arguably played his best football as a Chief over the past few years. In 2024, he finished with 2 interceptions, 87 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 2 quarterback hits.

One of the better players we had in our secondary over the last few years. He should continue to play well for the Saints.
