Best NFL Teams Through Week 8 (2020)
The best overall team is Pittsburgh. Talk about balance - the Steelers have the best defense in the NFL and a formidable offense as well.
Big Ben is back, and with James Conner, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Chase Claypool, they have weapons. On top of that, they have a perfect 7-0 record. This team can compete with anyone in the NFL right now, and I'd say they're my Super Bowl pick at this point.
The Chiefs are just as dangerous as they have ever been. Kansas City has by far the best offense in the NFL.
With Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Le'Veon Bell, and others, they have some of the best players in the league. Combine that with a sneaky defense, and this team will still be a threat to win games and possibly repeat.
Tampa Bay is playing very well right now. Tom Brady is somehow playing like he's still in his prime. Gronk is back, and with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Leonard Fournette, Ronald Jones, and Antonio Brown, they're really going all in for a Super Bowl.
They also have a formidable defense, so they can compete with any team. This is a team you don't want to face now.
The Tennessee Titans have been playing well overall, apart from their loss to the Bengals. They have hit a bit of a slump, though.
Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill are playing well, and when this team clicks, they are a nearly unstoppable force. But sometimes they just can't get it together.
Baltimore has been playing decently. Lamar Jackson is just as deadly as ever, and the defense is decent too.
They just aren't the team I expected them to be at the beginning of the year. I thought they'd be dominating everyone, but so far, I'm still not seeing it.
I'm not so sure about the Bills now. They're still a formidable opponent, leading the division and having lost only two games to respectable teams, but they let the Jets and Patriots hang around for too long.
All of a sudden, it appears that there are some flaws in their system. They aren't dominating games they should win by at least 17. But somehow, they're still winning, which is all that matters.
Seattle is slightly better than the Packers. Like Green Bay, they have a questionable defense. In other words, it's not great, but they more than make up for it.
Russell Wilson is playing incredibly well now. With DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Chris Carson all performing, they are a well-rounded team. But man, do they live close to the edge, as they cannot close out games. This could come back to haunt them, as we saw against Arizona.
The Packers were once the team to beat, but they have fallen off, to be honest. Don't believe me? Look back at the game against Tampa Bay, and you'll see my point.
They've had injuries to Davante Adams and Aaron Jones, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but that still doesn't excuse their awful defense. How do you let Dalvin Cook run all over you? The Packers are good, but there are some major flaws that have been exposed.
If you want to talk about living dangerously, the Saints are the team for you. I don't know what it is, but this team has some kind of luck right now. They cannot close anyone out. They haven't won by more than one score since Week 1, yet they keep winning.
Drew Brees is flirting with another passing record, Alvin Kamara is a dominant force, and the defense is scary too. But this team will let anyone into the game. We took them to overtime somehow, so yeah, these guys are definitely beatable.
The Cardinals are legit. I was skeptical about them at first, but if you look at how they've been playing recently, they're easily a top-10 team.
Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins, Larry Fitzgerald, Kenyan Drake, and Christian Kirk are all decent weapons. Combine them with a sneaky defense, and you have a team that's as exciting as advertised. They're still in the thick of it all and playing excellently right now.
