Top 10 Oddest Picks of the 2025 NFL Draft

Well, this draft is certainly pretty memorable. These picks sure had us scratching our heads just a little bit, perhaps.
The Top Ten
Tyler Shough, QB, 40th Overall

I understand that Derek Carr is going to miss a big portion of the season. Yet you managed to take an even bigger red flag than what was already presented.

What am I talking about? Shough will be 26 in the fall. If you're doing the math, that is close to Brandon Weeden territory. Need I mention the Lions did a very similar move a few years ago with Hendon?

Who is this guy? Did anyone see this coming?

A very odd pick out of left field. What do the Saints see in him to take him that early?

Jaxon Dart, QB, 25th Overall

The first real stunner came late in the first round. They did exactly what I hoped would not happen. They have four quarterbacks. That's already too much space being taken from better players at that spot.

Not to mention, the traits are similar to Danny Dimes. Wasted pick. I envy every single Giants fan. You don't deserve this misery.

This feels like Daniel Jones all over again. A risky move, and this team doesn't exactly have a good QB track record.

Roll the dice with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston for now.

Colston Loveland, TE, 10th Overall

Initially, I crashed out over this pick. I still am a bit unsure about it. I think defense was the way to go there, personally.

In the end, though, Ben Johnson can create two tight end schemes now, so that's a positive. I'm sure I was overreacting. At least I hope. I'm trusting Ben knows what he's doing.

So you're telling me he will be something special to be picked in the top 10? Or just be used as an extra blocking tight end?

I do not get the love for Loveland, even as a Michigan fan. Yet here we are.

Emeka Egbuka, WR, 19th Overall

A bonkers one here in my eyes. The Bucs lost the wild card game because they were very weak against the pass.

Why are we rewarding Mayfield, who was already creating emerging weapons?

Wide receiver this early? Why not add to the defensive side of the ball first?

This guy can be good, but it seems like an unnecessary reach.

Shedeur Sanders, QB, 144th Overall

Cleveland's QB room is like when the teacher picks groups for a class project.

I knew he'd get drafted somewhere, but Cleveland? I'm very confused by their plan, but they aren't the smartest team after all.

He should have been picked way earlier, plus the Browns already drafted Dillon Gabriel.

Dillon Gabriel, QB, 94th Overall

I would have rolled the dice on Joe Flacco in this case and waited until next year to hit big at the position.

Instead, from out of nowhere, they go for the man from Oregon country. Not sure if he beats a longtime veteran for the starting job.

What was the point of this pick if you literally drafted Shedeur? Why not roll with Joe Flacco this year?

Jayden Higgins, WR, 34th Overall

You trade down just to take another weapon for Stroud to throw to? The biggest weakness right now is the offensive line. You already have a player a lot like Higgins (Nico Collins). This feels like a wasted pick in my view.

He will start off as a backup to the team's starting trio. No wonder every quarterback felt like they were roadkill playing behind Houston's offensive line since coming into the league in 2002.

Did we watch the same team? CJ Stroud was getting killed due to a poor offensive line, yet you add a guy who's similar to Nico Collins? Make it make sense.

Tyler Booker, OG, 12th Overall
James Pearce, DE, 26th Overall
Tre Harris, WR, 55th Overall

The Rams' wide receiver room was already looking very strong up to this point. Once they got to this pick, I felt baffled at the fact they ignored getting another linebacker instead.

The Newcomers

? Tyleik Williams, NT, 28th Overall

Suspicion of this selection is that McNeil is not going to be a full go next season, which means they are banking their chips on a temporary answer in the meantime.

Maybe it works, but there were better positions to target at that spot late.

? Josh Conerly Jr, T, 29th Overall

Looks to be a great depth piece if anything. In the first round, you want to take a difference maker who will start immediately from day one.

I just do not see that in the situation he goes into.

The Contenders
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, 8th Overall

A player I love the potential of, but have mixed feelings about where he is heading. I thought Carolina had something going with Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker.

They felt they needed one more young stud over much-needed help on defense. Maybe he will become a great player, but for now, they must release Adam Thielen once the draft concludes. He feels more out of place now than last season.

I feel like the smart move was defense. Wide receiver could have been taken care of later.

Matthew Golden was right there!
