Top 10 Hardest The Legend of Zelda Bosses

The Top Ten
1 Thunderblight Ganon (Breath of the Wild)

Warning: DO NOT GO FOR VAH NABORIS FIRST! It is the hardest boss in the game and the most challenging boss in the Legend of Zelda series that I have defeated. I have beaten some of the top five bosses on this list, and Ganondorf from Twilight Princess is not difficult (fishing rod strategy). I managed to beat Koloktos on my seventh attempt, but Thunderblight Ganon took me at least 30 tries (even though I defeated Calamity Ganon on my first try).

While Maz Koshia may have moves that are harder to avoid, by the time you encounter him, you will have acquired many skills. I must admit that I only completed Ocarina of Time through glitches, and I have not played Majora's Mask, so I cannot comment on the difficulty of bosses like Bongo Bongo or Gyorg. However, I have completed the original game, A Link to the Past, Link's Adventure, Spirit Tracks, Phantom Hourglass, Oracle of Ages, Breath of the Wild, Link's Awakening, Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, and a few others.

2 Moldorm (A Link to the Past)

This was by far the hardest boss. If there are any old-school Zelda gamers, they will remember this giant worm of extreme annoyance.

My third ever Zelda boss. I gave up after five tries. The hole in the floor is just too much.

3 Vaati Transfigured (Minish Cap)
4 Thunderbird (Zelda II)

Aside from its erratic attack patterns, you also have to conserve magic on your way to this boss so you can use Thunder in order to even damage him.

5 Koloktos (Skyward Sword)

I hate this boss so much. He has too many arms and is actually one of the few bosses to try and protect his weak spot.

Is it just me, or does this construct never let you whip off its arms?

Koloktos was harder than Bongo Bongo and Ganondorf from Twilight Princess.

6 Calamity Ganon (Breath of the Wild)

This boss is really hard to beat, and since there is the option to not get the Master Sword, you can do this without it, but I don't recommend it. He's super cool but a tough boss to beat.

I actually liked that you cannot really play after you beat him because it allows you to fight him over and over, and you can even choose to have limited equipment.

7 Gygorg (Majora's Mask)

While Gyorg (not Gygorg) is a difficult boss, I never found him to be too much of a pain. I voted for him because he was on this list and all of the other ones were easy. To be fair, I haven't gotten to Koloktos yet in Skyward Sword.

This boss was such a jerk. I died several times, and getting back to him in the Great Bay Temple was torture.

8 Twinrova (Ocarina of Time)

Twinrova is the hardest boss to defeat, for sure.

9 Bongo Bongo (Ocarina of Time)

People say this is one of the easiest battles in the game, but for me, honestly, the easiest boss in OOT was Morpha. But still, I envy those who say it's easy because, to me, it just ISN'T!

Seriously, I can't be the only one who had trouble with this guy! Moldorm was much easier, for me at least!

Timing has to be flawless to win.

10 Ganondorf (Twilight Princess) Ganon (Referred to as Ganondorf in human form) is a fictional character and the central antagonist of Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series. He is a power-hungry Gerudo who possesses the Triforce of Power and aims to conquer Hyrule with the remaining Triforce parts.

It's honestly just the horseback phase. I spent more time on that than the other three combined, I swear.

Even though, in my opinion, he's not too hard, he has too many phases.

The Contenders
11 Dark Link (Zelda II)

I've beaten Dark Link 5 times the real way, and he is much harder than the others.

Link vs. Link - it's all about luck.

12 Demise (Skyward Sword)

When he gets to the stage where you have to charge your sword with lightning, he always seems to know when I'm trying to charge it, and then he gives me a blow to the head.

13 Monk Maz Koshia (Breath of the Wild)

Bruh, ain't no way this isn't the hardest boss. I played on 5 accounts and beat Thunderblight on my first try on all of them. This boss took me 5 tries.

I kinda feel bad for people who fought him before Ganon because he is much harder and by far the best BOTW boss, and potentially the best boss in any Zelda game. Aside from Thunderblight, he was the only BOTW boss that killed me.

He's probably my favorite of any TLoZ boss and is really fun to fight. You will most likely die many times if you do not know what you are up against.

14 Silver Lynel (Breath of the Wild)

I've been farming them for star fragments. I once ran into one for the first time and thought it was a White-Maned Lynel, which I could have handled. It did not go well for Link.

Why are they harder than the final boss? And why do they have only a few moves?

They have more hit points than Ganon. Enough said.

15 Zant (Twilight Princess) Zant is the usurper king of twilight and is the main villain of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Zant was harder than Bongo Bongo. Bongo Bongo was a piece of cake for me.

16 Ganon (Ocarina of Time)
17 Twinmold (Majoras Mask 3D)

I spent over an hour straight on the battle before heading to bed and trying again the next day. The second half of the battle was what made this fight particularly hard for me, mainly because, as another comment mentioned, it felt far too long since you had to repeat the same thing four times. You could die at any moment, and you also had to occasionally get some of those green bottles before returning to your normal size, risking getting absolutely destroyed in the meantime.

Make sure to have some fairies and potions in your pocket, because the lack of those was the reason I lost multiple times. Also, make sure to save them until the second half - you need them. This was possibly the hardest battle I've had to go through so far. I'm just recently returning to Zelda games after many years, so things could change.

18 The Imprisoned (Skyward Sword)

The first time, it was really easy - you only had to hit the sealing spike 9 times. But then the second time, it was really, really hard. However, the third time was pretty much easy too.

Just... no.

You beat SS and think you're done with this idiot. Then you have to fight him in Hyrule Warriors, too.

19 Majora's Mask (The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask)

Here's a detailed opinion on all three parts:

Majora's Mask:
Nice music, nice lasers, but not nice throwing yourself at Link. Not much else to explain here (except for the tentacles).

Majora's Incarnation:
The music is annoying. The attacks are annoying. The cuckoo sounds are really annoying. Once the Mask is defeated, it comes back with legs, arms, a torso, and an eye.

Majora's Wrath:
This is insane.

That's all good, but here's my detailed opinion:

Majora's Mask: Meh. I can easily take him on. It's made easier if you have the Fierce Deity Mask.
Majora's Incarnation: OK, now he got possessed by Michael Jackson. He moonwalks and literally says "OW!" when he gets hit and "Woo!" when he evades your attack.
Majora's Wrath: HELL.

20 Ghirahim (Skyward Sword) Ghirahim is the central antagonist of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. He is an immensely powerful Demon Lord born from Demise's sword. He aims to capture Zelda, the reincarnation of the Goddess Hylia, and use her to free his master, Demise the Demon King.

Ghirahim is one of my favorite characters of all time - not just in Zelda, not just in Nintendo. He is unique and just not a boring NPC.

21 Waterblight Ganon (Breath of the Wild)

This guy has hard patterns, and if you aren't prepared, you die way too much.

22 Queen Gibdo (Tears of the Kingdom)
23 Onox (Oracle of Seasons)
24 Stallord (Twilight Princess)
25 Phantom Ganon (Ocarina of Time)
