Death was an American Death Metal band formed in 1983 by Chuck Schuldiner. Death is considered to be one of the most influential bands in heavy metal and a pioneering force in death metal. Its debut album, Scream Bloody Gore, has been widely regarded as the first death metal record, while the band's ...read more.
Anyone who hasn't heard of this band, I bid you look them up. Simply one of the greatest ever, and a pioneer of the death metal genre. They combined meaningful lyrics, and amazing instrumental. Some of their best works are "Pull the Plug, Crystal Mountain, Symbolic, Spirit Crusher, Scavenger of Human Sorrow, Voice of the Soul, and Sacred Serenity." Chuck was one of the greatest guitarists ever, up there with guys like Tony Iommi, Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix. Rest in peace Chuck.
The only reason that Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine and Slipknot are higher than Death is that FAN GIRLS ARE VOTING HERE! - GREYBOYY
I used to think bands like Metallica and Maiden were the best... Until I heard Death (no offense to those bands, they are amazing too). Unlike those bands, they literally have no bad albums or even songs. And you can tell every song really came from the heart and has so much emotion (not so much the first 2 albums). Chuck was such a good vocalist and guitarist. Oh, and I should mention this is coming from someone who dislikes death metal.
It's unbelievable that Death is 27 on the list. Avenged sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine, HELL even Linkin Park is higher. Seriously what is that? Chuck is father of death metal and his band is one of the most influential bands ever. Teenagers should not have access to the internet, because they are voting for such commercialized bands.
You know the girls are on here when Avenged is above Death. Death started one of the biggest sub genres and has been carried over to other great death metal bands. What the hell kind of name is Synyster Gates anyways? Same goes for Slipknot. Both the most overrated "metal" bands of the 2000s. At least Slayer & Pantera are above those abominations.
The greatest band possibly in not only metal, but in all of music. Every album is different, and amazing. I'll go as far to say they are better than Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, that's how good this band is.
Death have seven fantastic albums and I'm sure if Chuck lived we'd have more fantastic albums and not a single poor one. Metallica have FOUR good albums, a few mediocre ones and a straight up horrible one. How are they above Chuck Schuldiner's majesty?
Death is the most important DEATH METAL band and in my opinion one of the most important METAL bands ever. Chuck Schuldiner (RIP) was one of the greatest guitarists and songwriters ever
System of a Down, Disturbed, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine, Lamb of God, and Linkin Park are not metal. Sabbath, Motorhead, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Death are metal. And I think Death is the best and should easily be number 1
Death has to be one of the most amazing bands of all time. All of their records are gold, my personal favorite being Human, and they have stayed to their roots the whole career. The only band I can say that they got better over time, and Chuck Schuldiner makes the most amazing riffs of all time. And Steve Digorgio and Gene Hoglan were great on the albums they were on.
There is not one bland album by Death, from the gory feel of Scream Bloody Gore to the melancholic and somewhat elegant agony filled Sounds of Perseverance, Death's technical skill and complex lyrics should land them in at LEAST the top 10
I don't even like death metal as a genre. But Death is just amazing. And every one of their alums is good unlike Metallica, Megadeth, and Maiden.
Avenged Sevenfold? Linkin Park? Seriously? The band that invented death metal and then took it to its limits should definitely be higher, just listen to their albums and be amazed.
The world came to know about the possibilities of extreme-genre music with the advent of Death in the late 1980s. With record-smashing albums like "Human" and"Scream Bloody Gore", they showed the world the best form of pure, unadulterated death metal. If it were not for God's whim to listen this pure form, Mr. Schuldiner would still be seen rocking over the world. As many, including me, clearly acknowledge him as the "Godfather of Death Metal", he was truly one of the greatest visionaries of metal music.
I can't believe death is under Avenged Sevenfold and slipknot. They were pioneering the sound of death metal. COME ON PEOPLE GET THEM UP. Death is a much better band than this.
Chuck is one of the greatest songwriters to ever walk the Earth. Death is definitely a top 10 metal band. 1. Megadeth 2. Black Sabbath 3. Iron Maiden 4. Metallica 5. Death 6. Slayer 7. Pantera 8. Judas Priest 9. Carcass 10. Sepultura 11. Morbid Angel
It's nice to see Death moving it's way up on this list. Last year when I checked, I think Death was at 12 or 13. Now they're at #9. It would be great to see if they can reach the top 5 (they deserve it)
Slipknot, Bullet For My Valentine, and Lamb of God aren't metal? But a prog rock band like Tool are metal? And a glam, power metal, then thrash metal band like Pantera are...well... (scratching my head)...I guess, technically metal under all three guises. I shall return to my parallel universe cd collection and try and nut that one out. See you in 4 Light Years.
How death is not in the top 10 is beyond me, excellent band in all aspects and are credited with influencing/creating a whole genre. Seriously who the hell puts Avenged Sevenfold over these guys.
All their work has been top notch quality in my opinion. From the brutal and aggressive Scream Bloody Gore to the technical and melodic Sound of Perseverance. Chuck was a genius songwriter.
Death is more metal than all of the other bands on this list combined. They are the fathers of death metal, they took it to a new and more sophisticated level than any other band before them.
Sorry, Death fans. But age has its advantages: Possessed are Death Metal's founding fathers, not Death. How do I know? Because Possessed's Seven Churches album was released before Death's debut - and I own that beast.
Know as one of the only bands to have never released a bad album, they always changed their sound, they created a genre, they revolutionised extreme metal more than metallica ever could.
Death is one of the greatest metal bands ( if not the best ) of all time. To have them so far down on the list is a joke, along with some other bands that are on the list.
I wouldn't exactly call the best but they're damned close to being it. Chuck pretty much started what we know as death metal today back in 1987 max respect
