21 Queen Queen Queen are an English rock band formed in 1970. Members were Freddie Mercury (Vocals and Piano), Brian May (Guitar, Vocals), Roger Taylor (Drums, Vocals), and John Deacon (Bass Guitar, Vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury more.

I'm just tired of people saying things like, ", Freddie Mercury is a genius. Bohemian Rhapsody is a masterpiece." They're ok, but aren't as artsy as some people are led to believe.

Bohemian Rhapsody is interesting to listen to, but is far from being a masterpiece. The song is more like a series of loosely tied together vignettes (musically, not lyrically) with some parts being good and others not so good. For example, in the part that goes, "I'm just a poor boy..." has a chord pattern that goes B, Bb, A, Bb and repeats. This pattern is used in various parts throughout the song. This pattern annoys me because it's simply going up and down a chromatic progression. In other words, it sounds like it was written by a nine year old with a few weeks of piano practice. Other parts like the one that goes, "mama, ooo-ooo-ooo-oo" are good, and I would have much preferred if the rest of the song expanded on this. It also crescendos way too early. It barely ...more

I strongly agree. I have no idea why this comment is thumbed down so low. - TimTamTheTurtleMan

Not underrated, not overrated. They deserve this big fame, I do however wish songs like The Prophet's Song, Fairy Feller's Master Stroke, Father To Son, Drowse, Flick Of The Wrist, March Of The Black Queen, White Man, White Queen (As It Began), Great King Rat, You Take My Breath Away, Brighton Rock, Liar and Nevermore got some more recognition.

They are one of the greatest rock bands of all time, and they're my 5th favorite band, but I don't understand how some people rate them higher than The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, which in my opinion are way better bands. I wouldn't rate them as high as The Rolling Stones either. - KurtCocain

I love Queen as well but they are more famous for their singles and their albums are really average at best. You never see any of their LP's in any best albums list for a reason. They are a good band but nowhere near The Beatles or Pink Floyd. Queen are like the perfect balance of pop and rock which is probably the reason why they are so loved

The lead singer, Tyler Joseph, and the drummer, Josh Dun. At the 2016 American Music Awards, they won two AMAs for Favorite Pop/Rock Artist, and Favorite Alternative Artist. Twenty One more.

Hey I actually agree with something on this list - imabigpotato

Were they not on this list? - christangrant

Not rock. - Gruunge

Little talent? Check.
Poor writing? Check.
Bland instrumentals? Check.
Generic poppy themes? Check.
Overrated? Hell yes. - naFrovivuS

23 X-Japan

I love X-Japan. I don't think they are overrated. The only person that seems to hate X Japan in every single top tens list is this LedZepp81 retard. I mean, most people here don't even know them (except for this stupid douche bag), so how are they overrated? Their music is inspiring and amazing. Just listen to Art of Life (worth 30 minutes of your life). Just so you know, I actually think Led Zeppelin is kinda overrated, and they are higher on the list than X anyways. However, I do think fans exaggerate sometimes, not by thinking X Japan is better than what they really are (even if they're not the greatest band that ever stepped on Earth), but by putting down every single Japanese band that isn't X. I'm a huge J-rock/metal fan and it irks me seeing X fans calling other bands trash because they're not X. X Japan isn't even my FAVORITE band... But definitely great.

I don't even know who they are but they're on like every list in the top 10 so I suspect foul play -_- - FresnoMMA

Then why don't you try listen to their music first? They're amazing - jadesweetbox

From what I can tell people on this site seem to love them. But I can't figure out why there borderline-horrible. I would say them and Avenged Sevenfold are the two most overrated bands.
Nirvana is also very overrated. - Chris-1

These insufferables are so bad that they made Rock look so bad! This is why Nickelback and Linkin Park exist! - LedZepp81

24 Tokio Hotel Tokio Hotel Tokio Hotel are a pop rock band from Magdeburg, Germany, consisting of Bill Kaulitz (singer), Tom Kaulitz (guitar), Gustav Schäfer (drums) and Georg Listing (keyboards, bass) that formed in 2001. more.
25 One Direction One Direction One Direction (commonly abbreviated as 1D) were a British-Irish pop boy band based in London, composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and previously, Zayn Malik until his departure from the band on 25 March 2015. The group signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records more.

Bands like this deserve to be on this list. Not bands like Blink 182, A7X, Slipknot, LP, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Green Day, System of a Down or Nirvana. They are proper bands that make proper music - Danielsun182

Really, this low? Number 43!?! Ok, It is FINE if you like this, but saying it is better than Owl City? The Beatles? CRUSH 40, aka, the team who does all of Sonic's vocal songs? No. That may be your opinion, but that opinion is SHUNNED from where I come from, and so must this band be!

A bunch of teenage boys trying to play some music! Seriously I don't understand why some people (especially teenage girls) go gaga over them. If you think One Direction is a good band, my advice to you:Please start listening to some music preferrably Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Metallica or heck if you don't like rock some decent artists like Eminem.

Not a Rock band but yes they are overrated - christangrant

26 Jonas Brothers Jonas Brothers

This is one of the only bands that belong on this list. Whoever voted for Metallica, Linkin Park, Nirvana, Queen, Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and many others, to be on this list can go jump in the fire, hit the floor, and ascend the Stairway to Heaven.

No, this band absolutely does not belong on this list. And it's not because they're good, they're complete crap, and that's why they shouldn't be on here. This list is of overrated bands, not bad ones, people really need to learn to distinguish between bad and overrated, because they have nothing to do with each other. The Jonas Brothers aren't overrated because nobody likes the Jonas Brothers, they have ten times as many haters as they do fans, almost to the point where it would be more reasonable to argue that they're underrated rather than overrated.
So no, the Jonas Brothers are garbage, but they're in no way overrated.

How is Linkin Park and A7X ahead of this? I love Linkin Park and A7X, this list was obviously made by a 10 year old girl who can't begin to understand true talent. - thatonemeatlfan667

Not even close to rock, just another boy band doesn't even count as rock music not even close.;..

27 Radiohead Radiohead Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwoood (bass guitar), Phil Selway (drums), and Ed O'Brien (guitar).

Seriously? I think they are very underrated. The way that they are able to change to another completely different genre and master it is really indicative of the genius of Thom Yorke. Take for example, The Bends and Kid A. If you took someone who didn't know who Radiohead was, they would be shocked to know that those albums were done by the same band.

They're not perfect obviously, but they're easily one of the best bands of all time. Radiohead is UNDERRATED.

I don't understand why people love this band. This music brings only sorrow and desolation. Furthermore, it's not so good in lyrics and instruments.

Yes they are very overrated - christangrant

28 Slipknot Slipknot Slipknot is an American Heavy Metal band formed in 1995 from Iowa. The band is best known as one of the pioneers of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal during the late 1990s - 2000s and are distinguishable by the band's clothing choices, consisting of black/red jumpsuits and horror inspired masks. more.

If Avenged Sevenfold Number 1 This Is Much Worst At Least Avenged Sevenfold better than slipknot

Should be higher. This list sucks.

29 Muse Muse Muse are an English alternative rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. The members are Matt Bellamy (lead vocal, lead guitar, piano, keyboard), Dom Howard (drums, percussion) and Chris Wolstenholme (bass, backing vocals). They've won several awards including five MTV Awards, 8 NME Awards, more.

Overrated? You may not like it but they finally get the respect they deserve. And whereas some later songs may be considered overrated by picky fans, most people will not be familiar with their earlier even more brilliant tracks. A powerful rock trio with interesting and versatile writing, guitar and bass lines and effects, great vocals and not to forget some of the best live performances you will ever experience. Love it or hate it, but Muse is not overrated. Even if they sometimes make it to the charts.

Tasteless music. Tasteless band. Which blended therefore a lot of styles trying to sound originally. But Matt Bellamy did not manage to make any good songs (except Knights of Cydonia which sounds questionably same to Cecilia Ann by Pixies). So, what I wanted to say. People that like mediocre rock music will find it nice. I can not give this band more than 7 out of 10.

Don't know why muse are on this list, they are a great, talented band

Not overrated at all - imabigpotato

30 The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. The first settled line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass) and Charlie Watts (drums). more.

Paul Rodgers singing Jimi Hendrix songs sounds like a great idea being that Paul is a great bluesy style singer but there is just something about Jimi like Mick that brings out the best in their songs and that would be character in the voice. Some songs need that lesser than greatness to make it a great song and Mick pulls it off. Keith may just be an average guitar player but he is known as the Grand Riffmaster for a reason and everybody knows that Ron Wood is the better player. When a band has been around for 55 years releasing album after album somewhere down the line they are gonna stop creating masterpieces and have less than stellar songs but they have earned their praise and the right to be on top of the mountain with other greats of the rock era. Really the only albums or songs that appear near to the tops of lists are albums from their classic golden years and a good many of those albums have the cream of the rolling stones crop. It isn't like Dirty Work or Voodoo Lounge are ...more - frankmartin

They were a solid rock band but baby-boomers believe them to be almost as groundbreaking and historically important as Elvis. I'm actually a fan of a few of their songs but they made some stinkers too. The fact there is a successful magazine called "The Rolling Stones" is enough proof that this band is way overrated and not only that but able to use their magazine to release top 100 songs of all time that list their own songs way too favorably near the top every time.

The most overrated band ever. There are no questions. Seriously Mick Jagger is a great performer don't get me wrong, but that is the only reason that these guys are considered influential. His voice is nothing special, Keith Richards is a so-so guitarist and Brian Jones there only stand out musician was rejected and killed himself. - Ledjam17

They did great albums through the 60 and 70s then they just became a big joke, - ChatonNoir

31 Evanescence Evanescence Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody.

Evanescence is basically just Amy Lee, she was the only member to be on 2 album covers and most people seem to only like Evanescence because of Amy's oh so amazing voice. I've seen so many people talk about how they love because Amy Lees vocals are so beautiful and she saved their life! Sorry but a band is more than just vocals and honestly she's a good singer but not as great as everyone seems to claim. Their lyrics and music is just pretty generic, there are better symphonic rock bands.

If there is something wrong with that band is that Amy Lee is the only member that gets credits. Evanescence is my favorite band, but I think the other members need more credits. - BlueDiamondFromNowhere

So this is apparently the best goth rock band according to the site. I can't decide whether to laugh or cry, that is just disgraceful. Screw this band they aren't goth. They are closer to emo than that. I like DCFnaf and all but he gives to much praise to that stupid Amy Lee. - 445956

Only popular because a woman is the frontman.

32 Scorpions Scorpions Scorpions are a German rock band formed in 1965 in Hanover by Rudolf Schenker. Since the band's inception, its musical style has ranged from hard rock to heavy metal.

They're not overrated. A lot of people, like me, think they suck - ChatonNoir

The Scorpions never really acheived superstar staus in the USA and only briefly in the 1980s when they started to shine but faded soon after the arrival of the 1990s. Much like Thin Lizzy and UFO they stars shone much brighter in other parts of the world. They did put out some top notch albums and always had killer songs throughout their career but were they ever really over exposed? Not a band that should be on this list for the very fact that if you asked people who the Scorpions they would be like who? and if they knew the name they probably couldn't name but one or two songs. - frankmartin

33 Black Sabbath Black Sabbath Black Sabbath were a Heavy Metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, Singer Ozzy Osbourne, Bassist and Main Lyricist Geezer Butler and Drummer Bill Ward. The band got into mainstream after improving after their debut album got negative feedback. In 1978, more.

Their debut album is the GENESIS of all metal. Legendary bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and 'tallica all owe everything to these guys and Deep Purple. Considering they created a whole genre of music and other bands that always strike top 10 on every list (Sabbath isn't one of them) didn't, it's safe to say that they're UNDERRATED if anything.

They are called the founders of metal when they only made Doom Metal - christangrant

Good band, but they didn't create metal like everyone says they did.

True hard rock or metal bands shouldn't be on lists such as this because they have earned their place in the patheon of artists and deserve the respect. I always found Black Sabbath to be more heavy rock than heavy metal like most of the 1970s heavy rock bands. In the 1970s heavy rock was considered heavy metal. Even the heaviest of metal rockers that started in the 1970s seem tame compared to how heavy they became in the 1980s such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and even Sabbath with Dio on lead vocals. - frankmartin

34 Aerosmith Aerosmith Aerosmith is an American rock band, sometimes referred to as "the Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band".

Aerosmith doesn't get enough credit. They have many great songs and they are one of the best in the world, yet they don't get as much credit and recognition as other bands such as Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Queen; etc. They are not overrated, they're underrated. And they rock!

Aerosmith started to become has been around the early 1980s and then revitalized their career. This is a band that just became really over exposed from Mtv and all the videos not that they didn't deserve some recognition after slaving it out in the 1970s. Imagine if Mtv hadn't existed then how many of the big names from the 1980s would not have been as big as they were. You think that Thriller or Never mind or any Mtv darlings would have achieved as much success? Aerosmith had quality music and rode the video train and you can't fault them for that. But you have look past just the pop tunes and dig deep into the albums and you will find some real treasures. - frankmartin

You either love Aerosmith or you can't stand them. I am the latter. The only song worth I like is "Janie's Got a Gun", just because it's different as has a good message. Oh, yea, "Dream On" is trash.

Never liked them. - ChatonNoir

Nothing special about this band yet so much love for blink

Just another average band. - naFrovivuS

I hate Tom DeLonge. His voice is so bad.

He has the easiest voice to imitate, it sounds like a 12 year old boy. - naFrovivuS

Formed in 1989 by frontman Marilyn Manson and Daisy Berkowitz, the group was originally named Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids with their theatrical performances gathering a local cult following in the early 1990s. more.

YES this band is so overrated plus they also ruined Highway to Hell so they deserve the hate they get - christangrant

Marilyn Manson is not overrated - Disturbedpotato

If "hardcore" wannabes have a god, that must be Marilyn Manson.

38 Chicago

No one even talks about Chicago anymore and they albums really don't show up on all time best lists so how is it that they are on the overrated list? I saw them this past summer and they put on a 2 1/2 show and it was great. So Chicago is really two from the beginning when they were more of a jazz horn fusion rock band and phase two was after Terry Kath when it was all 80s pop and ballads. Almost like two different incarnations but both highly successful. I happen to like both phases. They stopped making albums some years ago so it isn't like market is flooded with their albums. - frankmartin

39 Children Of Bodom Children Of Bodom Children Of Bodom is a melodic death metal band from Espoo, Finland. Formed in 1993, the group currently consists of Alexi Laiho, Janne Wirman, Henkka Seppälä, Jaska Raatikainen and Daniel Freyberg.

Underrated. - Disturbedpotato

40 Limp Bizkit Limp Bizkit Limp Bizkit is an American nu metal band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 1994. Their lineup consists of Fred Durst, Sam Rivers, John Otto, and Wes Borland.
