Top 10 Best Movie Quotes of All Time

Movies are full of those moments where the perfect line just sticks with you. Maybe it's a hilarious catchphrase that your friends still tease you about, an epic, inspirational line that gets you pumped, or a heartbreakingly beautiful declaration that makes you tear up even years later.

Some movie quotes echo through history, becoming part of our shared pop-culture language. Others are more like hidden gems, perfectly capturing an emotion you didn't even know you could put into words.

Whether it's the power of the delivery, the perfect timing within a scene, or just the sheer cleverness of the words, the best movie quotes resonate with us long after the credits roll.
The Top Ten
1 No, I am your father - Star Wars

This line just kept raising questions! It's one of the most shocking twists in stories. The way Darth Vader says, "Luke, I am your father!" sends chills down my spine because you would never expect an iconic villain to be the father of an iconic hero.

Everyone keeps saying it's "Luke, I am your father." But it actually is "No, I am your father." You see, before Vader says this, Luke says, "You killed my father!" to which Vader replies with this famous quote. He means it as: "No, I AM your father."

This quote is just like a piece of art. It is magnificent. It is classic. It is one of those quotes where you just want to say it to someone whose name is Luke because it is just so funny.

2 Why so serious? - The Dark Knight

This line is said by The Joker, Batman's ultimate villain, who is also my favorite character in The Dark Knight Trilogy. Heath Ledger depicted The Joker perfectly. This one deserves to be number one on the list.

This is the most iconic line in movie history. It's got to be. It sent shivers up my spine. It was just the way Ledger said it. Just the way he played the whole part. I have to say, he really scared me as the Joker. R.I.P. Heath Ledger!

"Luke, I am your father." So what? That quote is just stupid.

I think Joker's "Why so serious?" is far more brilliant and deserves to be number one. Let's vote for this!

3 Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn. - Gone With the Wind

So totally final. He had finally had enough of Scarlett and was making it very clear. Love it. But watch out, people who go to quiz nights. That little question about the last line spoken in this movie? This isn't it.

This is easily the best movie quote ever. It's so classic and quotable, and it is perfect for the character and plot. It is the greatest line from one of the greatest films.

Awesome way to show that you don't care for someone who doesn't care even if you're dead or alive.

4 I'll be back. - The Terminatior

I'm not sure people understand what "famous" means because there are a lot of people who've never even seen the second Dark Knight movie, myself included, and I've never heard of "Why so serious?" Conversely, Terminator has a good 30+ years (I don't care to do the math at the moment) on the Dark Knight movies, so every generation knows about "I'll be back." This includes the people who haven't even seen Terminator (poor saps) just because it's been floating around for so long.

Not to mention, that line has been recycled in nearly every single Arnold Schwarzenegger movie since then. Plus, there are recent examples, such as in the second Expendables movie that came out just last year. "Famous!" Not popular.

5 The name's Bond, James Bond. - Casino Royale

This line defines a part of his character, rather than defining a part in a movie. That's what keeps this utterance from the top ten.

Obviously, you have not yet watched the other Bond movies. He's a good one, but really there is no best. There are only the two worst: George Lazenby and Roger Moore.

The best of all quotes, always makes my spine tingle with joy.

6 I'll make him an offer he can't refuse - The Godfather

What is wrong with you people? This should be on top.

And where's "Feeling lucky, punk?" and "You talking to me?"

How the hell is this not at the top?

This should definitely be number one!

7 Life is like a box of chocolates - Forrest Gump

"Mama said, life's a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." - Forrest Gump (1994). So iconic. It's also used in most impressions of Gump. Being one of the first lines of the greatest movie of all time makes it a little easier to remember as well.

This should be number one. It actually has meaning, and it is said by the greatest man ever in the greatest movie ever. End of story.

Fantastic film. I love Tom Hanks' movies, and Forrest Gump is one of my favorites.

I will keep this movie for my children.

8 Say 'hello' to my little friend - Scarface

Scarface is recorded proof that Al Pacino is the best actor that ever lived. The Dark Knight is a good movie, and so is that dialogue, but it's nothing compared to this.

If you haven't watched Scarface, I only have one question: how can you live with yourself?

It's always so fun to say with an Al Pacino accent.

9 You'll always remember this as the day that you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow - Pirates of the Caribbean

Captain Jack Sparrow is one of the best characters in Hollywood. This dialogue perfectly captures his confidence and luck, as well as his nasty tricks that keep him as the Captain. It's perfectly matched with the situation.

A true display of a good director's brilliance! Hats off to Gore Verbinski.

At least this quote will still be relevant in 20 years' time. The I am your father one will lose its drama by then because everyone already knows it.

Just when he's finished that quote, he makes one of his inventive escape attempts.

10 Heeere's Johnny! - The Shining

Come on. Really?

This deserves to be way up there. Twilight doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the company of these movies.

I almost voted for "Why so serious," but I saw this at number 9.

This deserves at least the top 5, if not higher.

I think it's the best quote because it's so original, and I feel like everyone knows it.

The Contenders
11 This is Sparta! - 300

This one is one of the best quotes ever! It gives the audience the excitement of the movie right away at the start. It lets you know that this is going to be a great movie.

You insult my queen. You threaten my people with slavery and death!

Oh, I've chosen my words carefully, Persian. Perhaps you should have done the same!

We named our sports day team, which was red, Team Sparta. We drew awesome posters, made costumes, and later danced the Haka as our cheer.

12 You're gonna need a bigger boat - Jaws

I love this quote! It's better than the actual death of the shark. The only problem is that the effect is ruined when he says, "We're gonna need a bigger boat, right?"

Best part of the movie, and the most memorable quote from any movie I've ever seen!

Oh, moment! You do not want to hear that! Excellent quote for an excellent film!

13 Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. - The Wizard of Oz

I thought There's no place like home was the most famous line.

14 May the force be with you - Star Wars

May the 4th be with you, if you're reading this on May the 4th!

15 You talkin' to me? - Taxi Driver

Another one that's on my top ten to use!

Simple, to the point, and intense.

16 You've got to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk? - Dirty Harry
17 To infinity and beyond - Toy Story

TOY STORY! Love this quote! Vote for it, guys! This should be at least in the top 10!

Love this quote. Toy Story was my favorite childhood movie.

18 A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti - The Silence of the Lambs

This is one of the creepiest and most memorable quotes and scenes in the whole movie.

This movie was amazing, and this line just showed how well Anthony Hopkins made the character Hannibal Lecter. If you remember watching the movie, after he says this, you think, Wow, this guy is mental.

It's just so dark and pure evil, but said in such a nice, almost creepy tone of voice.

19 Hasta la vista, baby - Terminator
20 Go ahead, make my day. - Sudden Impact

Yeah, I just made a bunch of good options for the other movie quotes, but this is truly the best movie quote of all time!

21 You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. - The Dark Knight

How is this not in the top 10? This quote has so much meaning and truth behind it.

22 You cannot pass - The Lord of the Rings

Why is this not number one?

Lord of the Rings is the best trilogy ever, and that quote in Gandalf's voice... Come on, how is that not the best?

This is one of the most well-known movie quotes of all time.

I'm surprised to see it so low.

The Lord of the Rings is the best trilogy of all time. Number 1, Number 1, Number 1!

23 And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives but they'll never take OUR FREEDOM - Braveheart

I saw this on the cheesiest movie quotes of all time. I felt like eating my eyeballs when I saw it there.

Best quote ever.

Hell, you're going down, King Ed. Best film ever.

24 We're on a mission from God. - The Blues Brothers

Hahaha, it's not only epic, but it's funny because the Blues Brothers are like the last ones who would be on a mission from God. Twilight doesn't deserve to be mentioned because it's not a movie.

25 Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship - Casablanca

Casablanca has a lot of great lines that I'm surprised aren't here.

Bugs Bunny also said this quite often in his cartoon shorts.
