OK, these guys are great, in the end is probably one of my favorite songs, and other than imagine dragons they're my favorite modern rock band. It's not their fault they're overrated, it's their fanbase. Their fanboys are insufferable.

Linkin Park is not overrated, it is underrated, in fact. While people say they hate LP, its most of the time because thy don't listen to it. Its one of the best bands out there. You don't believe me? , well, just listen any one of their albums.

Everything as huge is Linkin Park will be either overrated or underrated massively. So, I don't view this as a negative. They've resonated with many, as their sales and hype for them portrays.

2 Green Day Green Day are an American pop punk/punk rock band formed in East Bay, California in 1987. The members include Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals and guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass), Tré Cool (drums) and Jason White (guitar). Green Day are associated with punk rock, pop punk and alternative rock. Some of their influences include The Ramones, Sex Pistols, NOFX, and Bad Religion. They are best known for their songs like ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’, ‘Basket Case’ and their ‘American Idiot’ & ‘Dookie’ albums. American Idiot sold 6 million copies in the U.S. and won a Grammy Award for "Best Rock Album". Green Day have sold over 75 million records worldwide and have won 5 Grammy Awards. They ...read more.

You nostalgic hipsters trying to go back to the good days when Green Day was "good." Face it, Revolution Radio brought back their old sound. The Uno, Dos, Tre albums were kind of poppy, but that's what you get from a POP PUNK BAND. Stop whining.

One of the best bands of my adolescence, RUINED, definitely overrated, RIP BJA, your music will be remembered

Anything before American Idiot such as Dookie,Nimrod, and Insomniac are good. But anything Post-American Idiot is not very good.

It is overrated. They have only some songs worth listening to.

3 Coldplay Coldplay are a British pop rock band formed in 1996. The band consists of Chris Martin (lead vocalist and pianist), Jonny Buckland (lead guitarist), Guy Berryman (bassist) and Will Champion (drummer and backing vocalist). Manager Phil Harvey is often considered an unofficial fifth member. The band renamed ...read more.

I don't think it's really fair to call Coldplay "overrated" because of the obscene amount of unjust hate they get. Yes their newer albums have a lot of really bland and sometimes just plain bad songs, but if you look back at their first four albums you might find some hidden gems. Also Ghost Stories was pretty phenomenal, maybe minus A Sky Full Of Stars, but calling them "overrated" really doesn't make any sense, since they don't get extreme critical acclaim like many of the other artists on this list.

I have friends who praise coldplay like gods so yeah its overrated at least for me

The comment above made me want to be an ass and vote for them. LOL

What?! Coldplay is huge! Why the heck are they on here!

4 Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band, that was formed 1999 in California. Their longest lineup of members was M. Shadows (Vocals), Synyster Gates (Lead Guitar), Zacky Vengeance (Rhythm Guitar), Johnny Christ (Bass Guitar), and The Rev (Drums). ...read more.

Never understood what's so great to be honest. For the most part a slightly above average heavy hitter with virtuosic playing and mediocre songwriting. That shouldn't be an insult in the big leagues.

A great band with some impressive songs such as 'Nightmare' and 'Welcome To The Family' but there are some very similar bands out there which don't get the credit they deserve because a7x is so overrated

The person that said it's just screaming has obviously only heard their first two albums, and even that screaming was melodic lol

Great instrumental, but lazily written lyrics. The songwriting is just boring.

5 Black Veil Brides Black Veil Brides is an American rock band currently consisting of Andy Biersack (vocals), Jinxx (guitar), Jake Pitts (guitar), Christian Coma (drums) and Ashley Purdy (bass), that formed in 2006 in Ohio. ...read more.

Maybe a bit (or a LOT) overrated and that's coming from a fan. We Stitch These Wounds really is a terrible album and Set the world on fire isn't AMAZING but Wretched And Divine is great. Can't wait for BVB 5! They probably will redeem themselves

Cancer with guitars

6 Nickelback Nickelback is a Canadian post-grunge band formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, Canada. The band is composed of guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair.

I don't know why people dislike this band. I personally think, music is a thing that people hear to entertain themselves, not to experiment or overthink about it. So love what you listen and listen what you love.

Lol. Nickelback is one of the most hated bands ever. How is it overrated?

I love this band, where's My Chemical Romance?!

No one likes them, they can't be overrated.

7 The Foo Fighters

Honestly, these guys should be much lower on this list for a few reasons. 1) the music videos (need I say more? ) 2) nice diversity of rock 3) their albums have been pretty consistently good

Playing ride crash on every song does not create dynamics. These guys hit the drums, not play the drums.

Good Band, but not everyone just wants cheesy melody and one chord rock songs

They suck so much and so overrated

8 Three Days Grace Three Days Grace is a Canadian post-grunge/alternative rock band formed in Norwood, Ontario in 1992 with a line-up consisting of guitarist and lead vocalist Adam Gontier, drummer and backing vocalist Neil Sanderson, and bassist Brad Walst. Their original name was Groundswell until they changed it to their current name in 1997. In 2003, the band's current guitarist Barry Stock was recruited to the band. In 2013 Gontier left the band due to creative differences. He was replaced with Brad's brother Matt Walst.

This has been added twice already, but to be honest, as much as I love this band, I'm gonna have to agree that they're pretty overrated. Animal I Have Become and I Hate Everything About You play quite a lot on the rock radio, and I've personally heard better from them. I love both of those songs, and again, overrated doesn't mean bad. It just means it's praised more than it needs to be. I'm just saying that there's so many other songs from Three Days Grace that I prefer, such as Get Out Alive, Last To Know, Never Too Late, Pain, No More, Riot, Born Like This, Running Away etc.

I love 3 days grace their songs are the best.

Awesome band that really doesn't deserve a spot in a list like this

They are the best!

9 Skillet Skillet is an American Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1996 and based in the United States.

Love dis band, but leave some room for other Christian rock / metal

The original lineup was James Hetfield (Vocalist and Rhythm guitarist), Dave Mustaine (Lead Guitar), Lars Ulrich (Drums), Ron McGovney (Bassist). With their first two albums, Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning reaching underground success, their third effort, Master of Puppets has since become one of the most important heavy metal albums ever, as it became the first thrash metal album to be certified platinum. The title track has since become the band's most played song live. ...read more.

If anything System of a Down, Slipknot, Thirty Seconds to Mars are a bit overrated. Green Day and Metallica...just shouldn't be on this list. What?!

Legendary band and far better than Iron Maiden

Best living legendry band... Metallica rocks

The Contenders

Whoever said they are amazing and not overrated has no sense in music. Nasty band on record, and forty times nastier live

They are amazing and not overrated at all

12 Muse Muse are an English alternative rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. The members are Matt Bellamy (lead vocal, lead guitar, piano, keyboard), Dom Howard (drums, percussion) and Chris Wolstenholme (bass, backing vocals). They've won several awards including 5 MTV Awards, 8 NME Awards, 2 Brit Awards, and 2 Grammy Awards.

Even though I enjoy them quite a bit, they are blown out of proportion terribly.

13 Arctic Monkeys The Arctic Monkeys, otherwise known as the Death Ramps, are a British indie rock band formed in 2002 in Sheffield, England. The band consists of Alex Turner (lead vocalist, songwriter, electric and rhythm guitarist), Jamie Cook (electric and rhythm guitarist, songwriter), Matt Helders (percussionist, backing vocalist) and Nick O'Malley (bassist, backing vocalist). A former member, Andy Nicholson (also a bassist and backing vocalist) left the band shortly after the release of the band's debut album and before Nick took his position to patch the line-up. ...read more.

This band is good, but AM was a rather commercial album, the Monkeys should return back to their roots. Their new stuff sounds just bloated.

This isn't overrated

14 Radiohead Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwoood (bass guitar), Phil Selway (drums), and Ed O'Brien (guitar).

Now, as a Radiohead fan myself, I do think they are overrated in the general scheme of things. I don't think they reach the levels of overrated that bands like the Beatles reach, (it's my opinion cuckold), but I also don't think, what most people call their masterpiece, Ok Computer is the greatest album of all time or something of the sort, but I can see why people would. Overall I think people like to hate this band because of some of the obscene fans and the general "moody" culture of the band. I do wish people would see them for what they actually are and not as this post-rock, moody, edgy band (which is kind of what they are, but some people don't think those things are particularly flattering) and give them a legitimate chance.

Not overrated at all, Ok Computer is quite possibly the most influential album of the past 25 years, and 10 years after its release they were still able to maintain the critical acclaim they got with the release of in rainbows, people who think they're overrated most probably havr only listened to creep or in the best of cases karma police, there's a lot more, just give them a chance before you call them overrated.

So overrated you can't put them on a "Most Overrated" list without their fanboys rushing to their defense

15 Slipknot Slipknot is an American metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa in 1996. The band is best known as one of the pioneers of the New Wave of American Alternative Metal during the late 1990s - 2000s and are distinguishable by the band's clothing choices, consisting of black/red jumpsuits and horror inspired masks. ...read more.

In response to the other comment, I think that the masks add a different aesthetic to them and make them unique...but that's just me

They are overrated just because of their appearance and image in public masses.

These guys aren't even rock..

Why? This should be number -1

16 Imagine Dragons Imagine Dragons is an American pop rock band from Provo, Utah, and are now based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Former members include Nick Thomas (guitar, bass, piano and keyboards) and Chris Salih (drums and percussions). The band was formed in 2009 with Joseph, Thomas and Salih. ...read more.

Yea, I agree with the other comment. Their music is really awesome and their lyrics are really deep. Also, I believe Tyler and Josh are really awesome people. The only thing I hate is their fan base (known as 'the clique' or 'skeleton clique'). Some examples:
The clique is rude to 'new' fans or 'fake' fans. Personally I think this is ridiculous. You should introduce them to older albums, not calling them names.
They push Tyler and Josh to make new music. When the Emotional Road show ended, the clique started getting really extra about new music. They need to relax and give these guys some time, cause we want quality over quantity, right?
Of course not every clique member is like this, but it's a high amount. There are some more points which bother me about the clique, but I'm lazy so I don't write them out.

I like them but their fan base sucks

Seriously this isn't even Metal. It's emo teenagers yelling at their highschool bullies! >:O

23 My Chemical Romance My Chemical Romance is an American rock band from Jersey City, New Jersey, active from 2001 to 2013, and again from 2019 to present day. For much of their career, the band consisted of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way, and drummer Bob Bryar.

I keep hearing people say they're influential. I mean how? They may have influence a few artists, but I doubt they have made a big impact.

What? I would even say they're underrated. People didn't notice the amount of incredible talent they had until they broke up.

My Chemical Romance can be barely be classified as rock music - pop punk at best, and their last album was more electric pop.

Best of the emo trinity. Fob sold their soul to the devil that is pop music and god only knows what's been happening to panic!

24 Evanescence Evanescence is an American alternative rock/alternative metal band. It was founded in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody.
