Top 10 Naruto Characters with the Hardest Life

The world of Naruto is filled with complex characters who endure incredible struggles. From childhood trauma to personal losses and betrayals, many of these characters have lived through some of the harshest conditions imaginable.

It's one of the things that makes Naruto so compelling, the emotional weight of the stories being told. Every ninja has their own unique backstory, and while some might have had relatively peaceful lives, others have faced nothing but hardship from a young age, shaping them into the characters we know today.

This list focuses on those characters who had it the hardest. Whether it's because of tragic circumstances, difficult choices, or just pure bad luck, some lives in the Naruto world have been tougher than most.

The Top Ten
  1. Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha is a fictional character from the manga and anime series Naruto, which was created by Masashi Kishimoto. He is a member of the Uchiha clan and plays a key role in the series' storyline. Itachi is widely recognized for his complex character and significant influence on the plot.

His dream was crushed, a pacifist at heart, and yet he had to do the unthinkable. His life was the most tragic in all of anime. He had to bear everything, play the bad guy, and no one could know what he did. And still, he is the most complex character ever in all of anime.

He remained sane even after carrying such immense burdens. He knew he was a bad guy, so he had to atone for his sins by being killed by his younger brother. That is the life of Itachi Uchiha, the most tragic hero ever and still selfless.

Yes, it's hard to be Itachi. Just for the village, he destroyed his dream, killed his family, and the worst thing is that he didn't get recognized even though he was diss...

  2. Gaara

Gaara is a fictional character in the Naruto manga and anime series created by Masashi Kishimoto. He is the jinchūriki of the One-Tailed Shukaku and possesses the ability to manipulate sand, which he stores in a large gourd carried on his back. Gaara later becomes the Fifth Kazekage of Sunagakure.

Gaara's life was extremely difficult! The saddest part was when he tried to play with the other children, and they faced him with prejudice. He is also an insomniac, suffering from Shukaku.

Like Naruto, only no one cared for him until he met Naruto.

  3. Naruto Uzumaki

Naruto Uzumaki is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the anime and manga series Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. Everyone hated him, everyone dissed him for 12 years or so of his life, and he was orphaned.

  4. Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke Uchiha is a fictional character from the manga and anime series Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. He is a member of the Uchiha clan and one of the main characters in the series. Sasuke is portrayed as Naruto Uzumaki's rival and follows a complex path throughout the storyline.

It doesn't need to be explained, but why not do it anyway. Sasuke was always in the shadow of his brother, striving to prove himself worthy of the Uchiha name. He admired Itachi, only to have his world shattered when Itachi killed their clan, sparing only Sasuke and deeming his life pathetic.

Sasuke found a new purpose in life - seeking revenge on his own brother, despite their past. Everything he knew disappeared in an instant, leaving him confused and unable to comprehend. His once revered brother was now seen as evil, and Sasuke found himself shunned by everyone. He was lonely, watching other kids with their parents, staying in the shadows, consumed by thoughts of revenge against Itachi for ruining his life.

Then, Sasuke found friends in Naruto, Sakura, and a parental figure in Kakashi. He discovered a different purpose - to protect his comrades. He almost let go of his quest for revenge until Itachi reappeared, threatening to take Naruto, his friend, rival, and reason for living. Sasuke watched helplessly as his teammates progressed without him, leading him to once again pursue revenge.

He left in search of power to kill Itachi, severing his bonds to gain strength. After killing Itachi, Sasuke realized he had loved him all along. He was devastated and swore to make Konoha pay for Itachi's suffering. His entire life's goal had been a ruse, a reason for living that he could have avoided by staying with Team 7 and not pursuing Itachi. But now, he was entangled in this mess, a wanted criminal with no path to redemption.... read more

  5. Obito Uchiha

Obito Uchiha, also known by his alias Tobi, is a fictional character from the Naruto universe. He was created by Masashi Kishimoto and is a central antagonist in the series. The Naruto franchise includes manga, anime, movies, OVAs, video games, and various forms of merchandise.

Obito Uchiha's life was undoubtedly hard. From a young age, he was essentially alone. His parents were dead, his grandmother was just a filler character, and the Uchiha clan barely acknowledged his existence. The only person who accepted him was Rin, and even she eventually abandoned him when all hope was lost. In contrast, Kakashi received all the support, even earning Minato's favor over the less skilled Obito.

The problem with Kakashi was that he always pushed others away, acting like a stereotypical emo kid who seemed traumatized and preferred to keep to himself. This was in stark contrast to Obito, who, despite having next to nothing, maintained a lively attitude and tried to bond with his difficult teammate.

To make matters worse, Obito was forced to save his team captain, resulting in his body being disfigured. He had to watch the love of his life be killed and was brainwashed by Madara at a very impressionable age. His life took a tragic turn, and he died alone. What a sad and horrible ending for him.

  6. Haku

Haku is a fictional character from the anime and manga franchise Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. He is a shinobi from the Hidden Mist Village and is closely associated with Zabuza Momochi. Haku appears prominently in the Land of Waves arc, where his skills and tragic backstory are revealed.

I had a hard time deciding between Haku and Gaara because they both have tragic stories. However, Gaara lived and became a Kazekage loved by many, and his life improved. Unfortunately, Haku wasn't as lucky. Here is his life story:

He was born in a small village and had a Kekkei Genkai like his mother. When his father found out about the Kekkei Genkai, he killed his mother and tried to kill Haku too. In fear, Haku accidentally killed his father. Haku was then all alone until he met Zabuza, who took him in to live as his weapon and tool. Haku served him as a tool to the point of sacrificing his life to save him. He didn't live long enough to realize that he had become precious to Zabuza too.

His family died, his friend died, he had to meet Obito, and he killed Jiraiya... His master from Konoha, which were those same idiots he came from.

When you consider the entire lives of other characters, it's clear they've endured a great deal of pain and life-altering events. Sasori of the Red Sand's story is particularly heartbreaking. He may come across as impatient and distrustful, but few understand that he spent his childhood waiting in desperate hope. His innocence was gradually corrupted by a seemingly harmless lie, coupled with constant loneliness that nobody could understand or share.

His strong belief in and love for art was the only thing that could soothe his injured heart, but this also led him to a distorted perception of life, believing puppets could replace humans. He often appeared heartless, always despising what he called human emotions. Ironically, it was his remaining emotion that led to his downfall. A moment of hesitation resulted in his death. How tragically ironic!
