Nate Wright: The comic strip's main character. Nate is 11 years old. He is an aspiring cartoonist, drummer, and underachiever who plays funny yet overdone pranks on Prank Day, which takes place near the end of the school year.

He is somewhat self-absorbed, believing himself to be irresistible to girls despite repeated rejection, a brilliant athlete despite his poor performance, and a genius despite his poor grades. He spends much of his time in detention, in the art room drawing comics, or playing drums for his band, Enslave the Mollusk, which also includes his friends Francis and Teddy.

He is desperate to own a dog and loves Cheez Doodles, his favorite snack, with a passion. He is also terrified of cats because of his ailurophobia and hates figure skating and egg salad. Surprisingly, he is a naturally gifted chess player, much to the confusion of his friends and family.
