The Top Ten

2 Sunshine of Your Love - Cream
3 I Need a Man to Love - Janis Joplin
4 Nights in White Satin - Moody Blues
5 Bluebird - Buffalo Springfield

"Not quite? " Historical revisionism has no place in reality. Rock 'n' roll began as country music, out in the country, by country folk. Its earliest forms were manifested in country blues, juke, be-bop, boogie-woogie and zydeco.. Rock, now an all-encompassing term which includes forms having little or no connection with rock 'n' roll, grew directly from those early forms, first as rockabilly. To say that it wasn't until some 40 years later that country was combined with rock to create something brand new is absurd.

Not quite: Zydeco and Rockabilly are awesome, but they remain distinct forms with their own identities. Within 3 months of Bluebird being released, recording for "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" began, and a direct line through to the present day bridged. Richie Furay was never a Hippie, though Neil Young certainly was.

Country rock began long before these hippies. Was called Zydeco and Rockabilly. Still is.

Also the birth of Country Rock, with the banjo solo in the Outro.
