81 Genesis Genesis Genesis are an English rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey in 1967. The most commercially successful and long-lasting line-up includes keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins.

The fact that Genesis is so low on this list proves that society is a complete failure. They are the greatest band ever... no other band can sound like them. Ever.

The 70's Genesis produced some of the most amazing music out there. Their guitarist Steve Hackett innovated two hand tapping and sweep picking (Not Eddie Van Halen or Malmsteen). Tony Banks is one of the most original and tasteful keyboardists out there, same with Phil Collins as a drummer. Mike Rutherford had some great bass lines and Peter Gabriel is a great singer with a unique voice. Together, they produced at least 7 amazing progressive rock albums. Yet they're not as famous as some of the "poser" rock bands out there (that's how I describe bands like AC/DC, Van Halen, Kiss...). - RalphSaad

They are simply the most talented people to ever exist. An immensely brilliant band who made piles of breathtaking songs.

85 Mudhoney Mudhoney Mudhoney is an American alternative rock band. Formed in Seattle, Washington in 1988 following the demise of Green River, Mudhoney's members are singer and rhythm guitarist Mark Arm, lead guitarist Steve Turner, bassist Guy Maddison and drummer Dan Peters.

Their lead singer Mark Arm actually was the one to come up with the word "grunge". They literally invented the genre! - Kfox101

The Godfathers of Grunge, even before Nirvana. - Pony

86 Joy Division Joy Division Joy Division were an English rock band formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester. Originally named Warsaw, the band consisted of singer Ian Curtis, guitarist and keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris.

If Ian wouldn't have gone in his inner depression, the band would've kept on going with him, and would have become an international icon. And wouldn't be part of this list. I say so because Joy Division's two actual albums and singles Love Will Tear us Apart, Dead Souls and ATMOSPHERE are all soaring masterpieces.
ps- RIP Ian, you sweet soul. - PinkflASHES

R.I.P. Ian Curtis. - Pony

91 The Smiths The Smiths The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. The band consisted of vocalist Morrissey, guitarist Johnny Marr, bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce.

Morrissey + Marr = Songwriting masterpiece. So sad we won't be hearing any more masterpieces, because in my opinion, there is no other artist that has or will ever come close to The Smiths. Better than Beatles. Better than Stones. And especially better than Queen.

Honestly one of the most, if not THE most underrated bands ever. One of the very few bands that I can listen to every album of there's from start to finish without skipping.

Everyone likes The Smiths, but one one really sees their skill. They were a very talented rock band!

How are they underrated. Every averaged college student in Europe know at least their most famous songs. Perhaps it's different in the U.S. Great band anyho - ChatonNoir

93 Cream Cream Cream were a 1960s British rock supergroup power trio consisting of bassist/singer Jack Bruce, drummer Ginger Baker, and guitarist/singer Eric Clapton.

There are a lot of underrated good bands here, but cream is always ignored. Their guitarists was none other than Eric Clapton, and they played some of the best blues rock ever.

Which originally consisting of Rick Danko (bass guitar, double bass, fiddle, vocals), Levon Helm (drums, mandolin, guitar, vocals), Garth Hudson (keyboards, saxophones, trumpet), Richard Manuel (piano, drums, vocals) and Robbie Robertson ...read more.

This band is so underrated that it is raked 101 in a underrated rock band list... Come on they were a big influence for Clapton, Pink Floyd and even The Beatles. Great songwriting, three excellent singers, one of the most laid back rhythm section. They toured with Dylan and their first two albums are masterpieces constantly praised by other artists.

Some of the smartest music that inspired greats like Eric Clapton and others. Amazing and underrated roots rock

The most underrated band. Amazing musicians filled with unique intruments like the mandolin, accordion, and an amazing sounding soprano sax. Great rhythm section to. They never seem to do to much nor to little and they were praised by some of the greats. Just watch the last waltz
