41 Goo Goo Dolls Goo Goo Dolls The Goo Goo Dolls are an American rock band formed in 1986 in Buffalo, New York, by vocalist and guitarist John Rzeznik, vocalist and bassist Robby Takac, and drummer George Tutuska.

Definitely the most emotional, authentic, complex and powerful lyrics any single band has consistently written. One of the few truly talented "rock" bands in existence. Pure guitar-driven beauty.

42 Twenty One Pilots Twenty One Pilots Twenty One Pilots is an American musical duo that originates from Columbus, Ohio. Currently there are two members. This band has helped me through many hard times because I know that someone is there for me

"fight it, take the pain- ignite it. Tie a noose around your mind loose enough to breathe fine and tie it to a tree, tell it 'you belong to me'.
This ain't a noose this is a leash and I have news for you, you must obey me."

Very thought-provoking and meaningful lyrics. Missing from most of today's music. - alexinkiev

This is the best Duo ever heard.. the lyrics are simply amazing, I love because it hits me hard, makes you think..

Why is Maiden down here?

Obviously no one here has listened to "Hallowed be thy Name" or "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" or "Dance of Death" or "Dream of Mirrors" or ANY IRON MAIDEN SONG WILL BLOW YOUR MIND WITH THEIR LYRICS.

45 The Smiths The Smiths The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. The band consisted of vocalist Morrissey, guitarist Johnny Marr, bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce.

Their lyrics are hauntingly beautiful.
"I know it's over
And it never really began
But in my heart it was so real"

"And when darkness lifts and the room is bright
I'll still be by your side
For you are all that matters
And I'll love you to till the day I die
There never need be longing in your eyes"

Why the smiths is not on the list?!

The have very power lyrics. Should be much higher on this list.

They have some of the best lyrics ever!
For example:
"And I could write a song a hundred miles long, well that's where I belong, and you belong with me." (Swallowed in the Sea)

51 System of a Down System of a Down System of a Down formed in 1994 as an Armenian-American Nu Metal group from Glendale, California . The band name is sometimes shortened to System or SOAD. more.

They should be top ten. Darron and Serj make sure that the songs have true meaning most of the time. The rest of the time they just wanna have fun and really don't care about opinions. They do what they think is right, but get pushed to the side as hippies.

At first it may seem as if there lyrics don't have much meaning, eg."Banana, banana, terracotta, pie", but if you listen for a while you notice that there is more to their lyrics than meets the eye (or ear).
Their lyrics can be dark and silly at the same time and are free for interpretation.

52 Brand New

The only band that rivals brand new is modest mouse lyrically.

Brand new is amazing

There is no way in HELL that Linkin Park has better lyrics than Brand New. I like LP as well, but BN has amazingly deep and introspective lyrics, as do many other bands on this list below LP. What a shame smh...

53 Pearl Jam Pearl Jam Pearl Jam is a Grunge Rock Band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. The band had comprised of Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament. more.

Their is a Pearl Jam song for everyone and all of their songs have truly amazing lyrics.
"I know I was born I know that I'll die the I between is mine."
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life under somebody else sky but why can't it be mine."
If once I could feel loved, oh stare back at me."
"All the advantages this life's got on me picture a cup in the middle of the sea."

I mean, like, seriously? Pearl Jam not in the top 5?
Is this list trolling us all?
World wide suicide, Black, Just breathe, Marker in the sand. I could go on forever.
For me, they are the best. Hands down.

54 Poets Of The Fall

This band and Twenty One Pilots are the best of any recent bands. Many of these other bands sound good, but their lyrics lack the depth and actual meaning. Very generic stuff like Red and Breaking Benjamin have no place on this list.

I mean, come on! This wasn't even on the list until I added it. One of the best lyrics ever

Hey morons, this band always produces great compared to those so called vain American rock bands

Better lyrics than 99.9999 percent of the bands on this list! - alexinkiev

I hate to say it because I love Three Days Grace, but sometimes they either go too mainstream and don't think about lyrics enough, or they try too hard and lose meaning

I like this band, but the lyrics are very generic and bland. Agree with the other comment about losing meaning. - alexinkiev

They have meaningful lyrics
