Top 10 Rock Songs About Musical Scenes or Genres

This is just a list of songs which deal with different kinds of music scenes from different eras.
The Top Ten
1 Money for Nothing - Dire Straits Money for Nothing - Dire Straits Cover Art

This song literally describes the music scene of 1980's glam metal. Knopfler here criticizes the glam metal musicians for leading a lavish lifestyle without working hard.

I would have to say I kind of disagree with him. On the one hand I’m with him that the lifestyles of the rich and famous are pretty excessive however specifically criticising the musicians of a particular genre and also suggesting they didn’t need to work hard to get there seems disingenuous. Good list by the way.

2 Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits Cover Art

Again, Mark Knopfler here talks about a small jazz band singing at a pub. They are not famous because they don't play mainstream rock music.
