Best Super Mario Galaxy Engine Room Galaxies

The best galaxies in Super Mario Galaxy's fifth world, the Engine Room.

Vote on the list to determine the order. With that being said, here is the list.

The Top Ten
  1. Toy Time Galaxy

Toy Time Galaxy is the type of video game level that everyone agrees is a masterpiece. I haven't seen a single person speak negatively about this galaxy, except maybe regarding the Spring Mushroom and its boss battle. But that's a minor part that doesn't significantly affect the overall quality of the level.

Being the Wii U's GBA Ribbon Road's successor, it's set in a child's room, with the planets all being toys and similar objects. The first and second missions involve a lot of gizmos and gears, whereas the third mission is dessert-based. All three missions are super fun and unique. The third mission does include the Spring Mushroom, which is a bit annoying, but I digress. Even the secret mission is fun and original, with those Tox Boxes and Flip-Switches. It's quite possibly the best galaxy in the series, rivaling Freezeflame Galaxy.

  2. Bonefin Galaxy

A one-star galaxy, but as you can see, it reached the top three here. Either it's because it's that great, or the other galaxies down below aren't that good. Well, it's a bit of both.

This one consists of one watery planet containing one of the most unique bosses in all of Mario. Kingfin is a skeletal fish you must hit with green shells five times to defeat. Because of this, Bonefin Galaxy is one of the best minor galaxies.

  3. Sea Slide Galaxy

The middle-tier galaxy of the three beach levels found in the Super Mario Galaxy duology, with Beach Bowl being better and Starshine Beach being worse. This is one of the more unique ones in terms of design, as it consists of a loop with vegetation and an egg planet in the middle.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have very strong missions. You mostly just race against Guppy and then the penguins around the galaxy, which is boring. Luckily, there are two exploratory missions as well, one with Silver Stars and another with Purple Coins, two missions I enjoy. Overall, it's a pretty good galaxy.

  4. Bowser Jr.'s Lava Reactor

The Bowser Jr. levels in the first Super Mario Galaxy game either had really great bosses but horrific level design, or they had fun level design but a poor boss. The third and final of these is a bit of a mix.

First, we platform across lava, and then we battle King Kaliente, the octopus from the first galaxy in the game. He's harder and more fun than he was originally. Overall, it's a fun galaxy. Not amazing, but the boss is pretty great.

  5. Gold Leaf Galaxy

The only time Super Mario Galaxy pretty much reused a galaxy in the main story, as Gold Leaf Galaxy is a copy of Honeyhive Galaxy. The differences are the red aesthetic instead of green, it's mirrored, and the missions are different. Personally, the missions aren't nearly as great.

It all comes down to that frustrating bunny-catching mission. Other than that, the missions are pretty great, although not as fun as in Honeyhive. The Cataquack one is a great nod to Super Mario Sunshine, the tower-climbing mission is a bit fun, and the musical notes one is quite memorable and interesting. So, it's a great galaxy, even if it's a rehash of a previous one.

  6. Sand Spiral Galaxy

The Hungry Luma galaxy of the Engine Room is the most original and largest of that type in the first Galaxy game. It takes place on a dark planet archipelago that contains a lot of quicksand, and one of these planets requires you to pick either Bee Mario or Boo Mario to traverse the area. Both have their pros and cons.

At the end, there's a spinning planet where you must reach the center to get the star. Overall, it's a good galaxy. It's just that the others are better.
