Top 10 Characters that Should Be Playable in Super Smash Bros.

The iconic Nintendo fighting game series Super Smash Bros. has been around for over two decades and has seen its playable character roster increase from only 12 characters to over 80 characters when counting DLC. And yet, there are many more characters that deserve a chance to fight.

This list is for the fighters you'd most like to see added in future Super Smash Bros. installments or DLC releases. Vote for the characters you most want to fight with or against, or add a most-wanted character if it's not already on the list.

The Top Ten
  1. Shadow

Shadow the Hedgehog is a character in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series released by Sega. He is an artificially created black and red hedgehog with hover shoes that enable him to move at extreme speeds, rivaling those of Sonic.... read more

Shadow is perfect for this series. He has similar speed to Sonic and can teleport. He has lots of helpful moves, and he could use moves like Chaos Spear.

I even thought up a final smash. It's called Chaos Control. Time freezes, and nobody can move during it. You have two choices: You can beat them up while time is frozen with a 48% K.O. chance, or you can shoot a huge laser of death which unfreezes time but has a 95% K.O. chance.

This hedgehog, who seems to have his destiny intertwined with Sonic's, is adept at using the "chaos" force and claims to be the "ultimate life form." His powers are extraordinary, and the applications of them are vast. He can warp space and time, create rifts, form weapons, and even teleport things of intense mass to other parts of the planet.

  2. Krystal

Krystal is a fictional character from the Star Fox video game series by Nintendo. She first appeared in Star Fox Adventures in 2002 as a telepathic blue vixen from the planet Cerinia. Krystal later became a member of the Star Fox team and developed a strong following among fans.

I'd like to see Krystal replace Wolf and make Wolf an alternate costume for Fox. Star Fox only deserves three spots on the roster, and using her staff and her grenades, Krystal needs one of them. It'd also add more females to the game, which we need at the moment.

More women, please. Fox, Falco, and Wolf have almost the exact same set of moves. Krystal would be new and different. Please, Nintendo, think of the ladies!

She would have been another girl and a Star Fox representative that wasn't a clone of Fox. She would have felt really unique with staff-based melee and magic projectiles.

  3. Waluigi

Waluigi is a tall, self-centered, and rough-around-the-edges character who is often portrayed as Luigi's rival. He frequently causes chaos in various Mario spinoff games, usually paired with Wario. While he acts antagonistically, Waluigi is not truly evil and often shows loyalty and affection, especially... read more

Here's my idea for his Special Moves and Final Smash if he were playable in Smash.

Neutral Special: Pinball Throw - Waluigi throws a metallic pinball similar to how Wario throws one in the Pinball Zone from Wario Land 4.

Side Special: Pinball Bumper - Waluigi summons a bumper from Waluigi Pinball (Mario Kart DS) to push opponents away and block projectiles. This could work like Palutena's Reflect Barrier.

Up Special: Pinball Flipper - Waluigi jumps off from a moving flipper similar to Sonic's Spring Jump and Mega Man's Rush Coil. The flipper can shock people that try to jump on it, which references how the flippers act in Waluigi Pinball (Mario Kart DS).

Down Special: Sparky Sticker - Waluigi takes out a Sparky Sticker from Mario Party 4 and puts it on the ground. Anyone that steps on it will get electrically shocked by an Amp.

Final Smash: Waluigi Pinball - Waluigi traps opponents inside a pinball machine where they're bounced off pinball bumpers and attacked by giant pinballs. This ends with everyone falling out of the pinball machine and Waluigi laughing at them. For a small detail, let's have the pinball machine be a reference to Pinball (NES).

  4. Miles "Tails" Prower

Honestly, it's weird seeing Sonic in the game while Tails isn't. I don't understand why people want Shadow more. Tails could be a brawler or gunner, which is great, and he's one of the best characters in the Sonic series.

Let's be real. Sonic needs more friends to fight with him in Smash, and what better way to start than with Tails? Plus, who doesn't like this sweet, loyal fox-cub?

Come on! Out of all the Sonic characters, you pick Tails?! Seriously, Shadow, Knuckles, Silver, Eggman, heck, even Amy Rose would be better choices. Tails is a weakling and should never be in Smash.

  5. Toad

Toad, known in Japan as Kinopio, is a major character in the Mario Bros. franchise. He assists Princess Peach in the Mushroom Kingdom and first appeared in Super Mario Bros. (1985). Toad is a recurring character in many Mario games, including New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 3D World, Captain Toad... read more

I love Toad, and I have the perfect moveset for him. His normal special will be a mushroom that makes him bigger. His left and right specials will be launching attacks similar to Luigi's, but for Toad, he will have a mushroom charge meter ranging from a single mushroom to a golden mushroom. The golden mushroom will be the strongest and launch the victim even further.

His down special will be a turnip. His up special will be the propeller hat, allowing him to fly up. His final smash will be a giant POW block that launches people off the screen. If anyone has any other ideas, please share them.

Same thing with Koopa Troopa. Toad would be a nice addition to the Mario franchise in Smash Bros, along with every other Mario character.

  6. Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot is a video game franchise of platform games originally created by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin. The series was developed by Naughty Dog for Sony Computer Entertainment and debuted as a PlayStation exclusive in 1996.... read more

Not only would Crash be awesome as a third-party character, but he's also part of a lot of people's childhoods! I'm sure everyone would LOVE playing as him. Maybe his final smash would be all the monsters from the series coming at you and running you off the screen from all directions.

One of his alternative skins should be the silver-furred Crash, which is the skin for the second player in his games.

I haven't played many of his games, but he should be in Smash.

Hey, we got Banjo, why not Crash too?

  7. Koopa Troopa

Koopa Troopas, or simply Koopas, known in Japan as Nokonoko, are a fictional race of turtle-like creatures from the Mario series and its sister Yoshi series. They most often appear as common ground enemies. Over time, Koopa Troopas have become one of the most recognizable and recurring enemy types in... read more

Darth Vader? A real-life NFL player? SpongeBob? Toy Story? Cartoon Network characters? This is SUPER SMASH BROS., for God's sake! Haven't any of you ever even played a Smash Bros. game? Smash Bros. consists of only Nintendo characters!

I love Darth Vader and Toy Story, but they're not Nintendo franchises! Vote for actual Nintendo characters instead of filling this list with characters who neither belong in nor ever will be in Smash Bros. Characters like the Koopa Troopa should be in Smash. Koopa Troopa has earned it. He is a classic Nintendo character and could spin back and forth on the stage in his shell like Bowser does in Smash Wii U!

  8. Paper Mario

The number of interesting moves he could do would make him a good addition, with his hammer being the obvious choice. The other options are limitless since he's made of paper. He should be there instead of Doctor Mario, especially since the Paper Mario games were much better and are still ongoing. Seems a no-brainer.

He should be good as an alternate Mario who lacks his bad moves like F.L.U.D.D. and replaces them with ground pound.

As long as he isn't a Mario clone.

  9. Rayman

Rayman is the main protagonist and title character of the Rayman series created by Ubisoft game designer Michel Ancel. He first appeared in the video game Rayman, released in 1995. Known for his limbless body and whimsical world, Rayman has become one of Ubisoft's most iconic characters.

Rayman Legends has a reference to Nintendo, and he is seen on Nintendo platforms. He has a chance.

Rayman is just a very cool fighter in his own game, and I would love to play as him in Smash.

Wonder what his moveset would be?

  10. Rouge the Bat

Rouge the Bat is a video game character in Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog series. She made her debut in Sonic Adventure 2, released in 2001 for the Sega Dreamcast. Rouge is a jewel thief and government agent, known for her confident and flirtatious personality, as well as her complex relationships with other... read more

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Black Mage

There is one Final Fantasy character in Smash, and he is an anime sword fighter. I think it would be really cool if they gave us a magic-wielding warrior who doesn't have any sword at all.

Plus, he is the most iconic Final Fantasy character after Cloud.

Great moves in Smash Flash 2. Plus, he's unique.

  13. ?

    D.Va

D.Va is a playable character in the 2016 video game Overwatch, a first-person shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment. She is portrayed as a former professional gamer who now pilots a highly advanced mech in combat. D.Va has become one of the franchise's most recognizable characters.

D.Va should be in Smash. Her mech would make her have a unique moveset.

  14. The Contenders
  15. Bomberman

Think about it. Joining a Smash Bros. game and blowing everyone out of the battlefield! Bomberman would be a very good addition to the series. Enough said.

People have always pictured Bomberman in Super Smash. He would be an amazing addition to the Smash series! He would blow the competition away.

It's sad he became a special event since no one plays with items, meaning no one sees this fantastic character.

  16. Amy Rose

Amy Rose is a fictional character in SEGA's Sonic the Hedgehog series. She is a pink anthropomorphic hedgehog known for her cheerful and competitive personality, and she is infatuated with Sonic, the main character of the series. Amy is notable for being the first playable female character in the Sonic... read more

I'm going to be honest: This girl, she's annoying as heck. But I could see her being in the game.

I think she was going to be in it, but if she was, she was cut by Peach.

She could fit in perfectly with this 12-so-called move set.

  17. Spongebob Squarepants

SpongeBob SquarePants is a fictional character and the titular protagonist of the American animated television series of the same name. SpongeBob is known for his bright optimism and naive, childish tendencies. He often gets into trouble in Bikini Bottom.... read more

This would be so much fun. Just imagine all the possible moves he could use. He could wield a reef blower, a spatula, a jellyfish net, Mermaid Man's belt, and bubbles.

He could make Gary attack his enemies!

I really like SpongeBob and wish he were in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

  18. Master Chief

Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, better known as Master Chief, is a SPARTAN-II commando of the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command. He is the main protagonist of the Halo video game series. Master Chief is featured prominently in both the original trilogy and the Reclaimer Saga.

The original mascot for Microsoft. He is a better representative for Xbox than Banjo Kazooie. I really like Banjo Kazooie, but Master Chief is more of a Microsoft character than Banjo Kazooie.

Master Chief, like Snake, is a human who has a lot of weapons and would be nice in Smash.

Really an Xbox character, but it would be sick if he were in the game.

  19. Darth Vader

Darth Vader is a Star Wars character who serves as the main antagonist of the original Star Wars trilogy and as the central figure in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, where he is known by his original name, Anakin Skywalker. Initially trained as a Jedi Knight, Anakin defects to the Sith under the influence... read more

Just imagine your character getting stabbed by a lightsaber.

  20. Birdo

Birdo is a dinosaur-like character from the Mario franchise who is known for her ambiguous gender identity. In the North American manual for Super Mario Bros. 2, Birdo is described as a male who believes he is female and prefers to be called Birdetta. In later appearances, this backstory was largely... read more

Birdo should be higher! We need more Mario spots. Nobody knows Earthbound, Kid Icarus, or any of these franchises as much as Mario. I'm sure everyone knows Birdo because everyone knows Waluigi when Birdo was in the Mario cartoon before Daisy came.

First: Paper Mario. Second: Waluigi. Third: Toad. Fourth: Birdo. Fifth: Geno! That's my top five Mario characters I want in Super Smash Bros.

I love Birdo. Gee, she'll make a great addition to a fighting game, shooting eggs out of her nose like cachaw or rangatangtang.

  21. Bandana Dee

Please add him. Sakurai, give him a chance. Mighty spear. Cool bandana. Cute, strong. Another cool Kirby character to add to the game. My honest favorite character out of all the characters in the Kirby game franchise.

  22. Shovel Knight

It pains me that Shovel Knight is an assist trophy and not a character in Smash.

An assist trophy, but I would like it if he were a playable character.

Who wouldn't want such an amazing character in Smash?

  23. Scorpion

Scorpion is a recurring player character and occasional boss in the Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. He made his debut in the original Mortal Kombat (1992) and is recognizable by his yellow ninja outfit. His iconic catchphrase, Get over here!, is often used in... read more

This would be a really cool character to play as in this game.

  24. Goku

Son Goku (Saiyan name Kakarrot) is the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise created by Akira Toriyama in 1984. He possesses many powerful abilities, including super strength, ki control, flight, teleportation, super speed, enhanced reflexes, and Super Saiyan transformations that increase his... read more

He made it to a computer game called Super Smash Flash 2. Try that game. It's similar to Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

Don't you realize, Goku, you'd be the most overpowered character anyway?

Goku is the best, and no one is telling me otherwise!

  25. Geno

  26. Blaziken

Blaziken, known in Japan as Bashāmo, was introduced in the third generation of games, beginning with Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. It is the final evolved form of Torchic and is recognized for its powerful Fire and Fighting-type moves. Blaziken also has a Mega Evolution that enhances its abilities in battle... read more

Yes. Screw Lucario, Blaziken's the real deal.

  27. Fawful

Fawful, known in Japan as Gerakobits, is a fictional character from the Mario and Luigi series of role-playing video games developed by AlphaDream. He first appeared in Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga in 2003. Known for his eccentric speech and memorable quotes, he became a recurring villain in the series... read more

I know I won't make many friends with my next choice. I mean, come on, he may be a little weak for Smash Brothers, but don't get me wrong. Inside that guy is a beast - a beast that can destroy everything around him.

  28. Tracer (Overwatch)

Tracer is a playable character introduced in the 2016 first-person shooter video game Overwatch, developed by Blizzard Entertainment. She is known for her exceptional mobility, upbeat personality, and time-manipulation abilities. Tracer has become one of the most recognizable and iconic characters in... read more

Cool. More third-party characters! Tracer would probably be an interesting addition to the roster, even though I haven't played Overwatch myself.

Literal goddess that deserves to be worshipped 24/7.

  29. Impa (Hyrule Warriors)

Impa is a recurring character in the Legend of Zelda franchise, first appearing in the original 1986 game as an elderly woman who gives Link his first sword. In later games, she serves as a nursemaid and bodyguard to Princess Zelda. Her design and role vary across different entries, often emphasizing... read more
