Top 10 Worst Airports in the United States
Security lines that snake like a Disneyland ride but without the fun, gates crammed with more bodies than an overbooked concert, and signage that seems designed to confuse rather than guide... you've landed at one of those airports.
These are the places where logic takes a vacation and efficiency missed its flight entirely. Terminals that feel more like obstacle courses, baggage claims that move slower than a DMV line, and layouts that would make a labyrinth jealous.
You've stood in their endless TSA queues, power-walked to a gate that turned out to be in a different time zone, or been stranded during another weather-related "technical delay." Maybe you've sworn off ever connecting there again.
Now's your chance to turn that suffering into something useful.
So, what are the worst airports in the United States? That's for you to decide.
-
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
This is probably the warmest airport in the United States because the temperature is always above 90 degrees. You'll probably need to find a juice bar and get a glass of lemonade to cool yourself down. However, try to run as fast as you can in that heat to get to your gate because there are also lots of people in Phoenix International Airport. In fact, it's probably the third most crowded airport in the United States, after Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and the New York City airports.
If you ever go to this airport, be sure you are a fast runner and get to your gate as quickly as you can. Otherwise, you might miss your flight to Los Angeles. It is so hot in that airport that you should probably bring some water with you before you melt. The reason why Phoenix Airport is so hot is that Phoenix happens to be the hottest city in the United States. In fact, I think Arizona or California are the warmest states too!
-
Philadelphia International Airport
International immigration processing is slow and not well-suited to handling large numbers of people. We missed our connecting flight because of their inability to manage large crowds of arriving international passengers. The most telling thing was when we cleared immigration, we told a porter that we missed our connecting flight, and he said, "Yeah, that happens a lot."
I feel the staff are there just to earn a paycheck, and offering help when asked is not in their job description. And yes, their process for international flights is ridiculous. I had two hours to get to my flight, didn't stop along the way even once, and still couldn't make it. Worst experience to date.
-
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport
You could easily get lost in this airport or even miss your flight with all those people and YouTubers who film there. This airport is so crowded that you might miss your flight, get frustrated with all the people, and just drive to the city you want to go to instead. While this airport may have things to do, it is so crowded that you would have to race through the crowds to get to your gate as quickly as possible. This is probably the most cramped airport in the United States.
Say you are flying from Albuquerque and want to go to Miami. You might get so delayed at the Dallas Airport that you could miss your flight to Miami. Anyway, I wish there weren't so many people in Dallas and Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.
-
Orlando International Airport
Rudest parking cashiers, clerks, and supervisors at ABM Parking (Kim Perez, Peggy Padro, Nellie Lopez, Rosa Roque, Alexandria Miranda, Melvis Rodriguez, Jasmine, Angella Rogers, Jessica Milam, to name a few). As a weekly business traveler, I have encountered these workers many times and complained to rude managers (Jerry Huff, Sheila Block, Bob Martin, Juan Massa), yet they don't fire those people!
I have been parking on both sides of the airport for at least two years, and if it weren't for my employer paying for parking, I would never park there. Blame the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) because they don't do anything about getting rid of these workers! I have talked to every manager, yet I see the same workers each time!
-
Los Angeles International Airport
Severely overcrowded and congested, this airport's terrible terminal layout is a recipe for disaster. Only fly here if you must. Otherwise, fly out of Orange County.
-
Newark Liberty International Airport
Security takes forever, and the staff is rude. Employees of airlines that are usually known for great customer service were incredibly rude and forced me to check one of my two carry-on bags, even though I had previously carried both bags at another airport without any trouble.
I hate this airport with a passion. The staff is rude and unhelpful, which makes you wonder how they passed the job interview! I think I would rather stick pins in my eyes than ever visit this woeful dump. It makes the equally awful Vancouver Airport look good, and that's saying something!
-
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
WAY too busy, but a cool airport. Delta for life! Emirates should be avoided at all costs.
-
Charlotte Douglas International Airport
-
Missoula International Airport
This is the worst airport in the U.S. It's too small, there's nothing to do, and it's totally boring. If you ever fly from a city like Phoenix, do not go to Missoula Airport! It is very, very boring. I think all the airports in Montana are terrible! Missoula should keep getting smaller and smaller, eventually becoming a ghost town. If you go to Montana and fly, I recommend just going to the one in Butte. That's the only good one in Montana.
This is probably the only bad part about Missoula. Everything else is great. I should know - I've been on trips here every summer since my first year in this world.
-
LaGuardia Airport
A grim place of despair. The staff is moody, security is overzealous, and the terminal is falling apart. God forbid your flight is delayed.
-
?
Oakland International Airport
-
?
Montgomery Regional Airport
-
Logan International Airport
The terminals are too small for a large airport. Flights also get delayed regularly, and the corridors are too narrow.
-
Billings Logan International Airport
This is the second most boring and worst airport in Montana. It's too small (but just a tiny bit bigger than the one in Missoula). This airport has nothing to do in it at all! Some of the airports in Montana are terrible, and it's because the cities are so sparsely populated. I recommend not moving to Montana at all!
For those of you who live in Montana, try making arrangements to move to another state with bigger cities and much better airports (like California, New Mexico, Arizona, New York, Florida, Texas, or Illinois). Also, Billings is a horrible city.
-
Norfolk International Airport
Number 13? This is the worst airport ever! Racist people, limited stores, canceled flights, and rude staff!
Worst airport, and they do not have any non-stop flights to anywhere on the West Coast.
-
Kansas City International Airport
Outdated facility. Very limited food options and other services.
I live here, and I hate it. It's convenient, but it's outdated and has limited food options.
Horrible food options. It's hard to find power outlets.
-
Miami International Airport
-
Cheyenne Regional Airport
This airport sucks a lot! There are too few things to do, and it's probably the smallest international airport in the United States. Also, there are too many cowboys in Cheyenne and throughout Wyoming. Wyoming has the second worst airports in the country, after Montana.
This airport also sucks because there is nothing to do in it at all! There are only two restrooms. If you need to use the bathroom and both restrooms are crowded, I would recommend just waiting to get on the plane to use the bathroom or going outside the airport to find one. Maybe try a restaurant or a small store.
-
Boise Airport
Boise Airport sucks because it is too small, has only a few things to do, and this airport has the fewest airplanes. I recommend not going to Boise because it is too boring, has only a few things to do, and you have to wait a long time for your airplane to arrive. You might have to wait for about 4-5 hours.
Speaking of 4-5 hours, do you want to know how long it took for my older sister (who was 17 at the time)? It took 6 hours for her to wait for her plane. But anyway, this airport takes a long time too!
-
Washington Dulles International Airport
A virtual maze. It takes forever to get to your gate. No help phones or assistance. A nightmare.
-
Great Falls International Airport
This airport is the third-worst airport in Montana and one of the worst airports in the Mountain States. It's way too small, has just a couple of things to do, and is so boring. If you're traveling from Great Falls to Denver, I'd just take a car instead because the Great Falls airport is so bad.
I can give you five reasons this airport sucks:
5. This airport is so boring.
4. This airport is too small.
3. There are only a few things to do in this airport.
2. This airport takes a while to get through.
And number 1, THERE ARE ONLY A COUPLE OF RESTROOMS IN THIS STUPID AIRPORT!

Eppley Airfield
-
San Diego International Airport
-
Akron-Canton Airport
-
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport
-
San Antonio International Airport
A medium-sized airport with lots of fun things to do. I totally recommend this place.
-
San Francisco International Airport
