Top 10 Best Horror Anime

The title says it all. Which horror anime freak you out the most?
The Top Ten
Another Another is an anime based upon the Novel and Manga of the same name by Yukito Ayatsuji. There also exists a live action movie based on the novel.

I don't consider this anime very scary. Honestly, it didn't make me feel horrified at all, and the deaths didn't get to me either. They were entertaining to watch and surprising since you don't know who's going to live or die, so I'll give the anime that.

I mainly liked the last two episodes since everything went to chaos, and it just felt... fun! Okay, that may sound a bit messed up, but I like murder montages. I still enjoyed the whole anime altogether. The mysteries were good, and to sum this up, the anime isn't that scary unless you're frightened of gore or if the tense situations get to you.

Arrivederci.

Elfen Lied Elfen Lied is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto. It was originally serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump from June 2002 to August 2005, with the 107 chapters collected into twelve tankōbon volumes.

I do love horror anime like Another, Tokyo Ghoul, Higurashi, and plenty of others. But none of them scared me. Elfen Lied scared me so much, yet it's such a great series.

If you're looking for a good horror anime to watch, I totally recommend Elfen Lied if you want a good scare.

I loved this anime. It's very bloody and gory, but it's also heartbreaking and sad. I feel bad for all the Diclonii, and I really hate that organization they have. It's a very good anime, and if you say it's horrible and that all there is is blood and gore, you only watched five minutes of the anime. Finish watching the series.

Future Diary Future Diary is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Sakae Esuno. The plot surrounds a battle royale in which each combatant has a diary with entries from the future. The manga was serialized in the Kadokawa Shoten's Shōnen Ace between January 2006 and December 2010.

A survival game where those chosen to participate fight to the death. The last one standing becomes God and prevents the apocalypse. Beware of Yuno.

Even though this anime scarred me for life, it's still my favorite anime. It's up there with Elfen Lied and PMMM.

Truly amazing! So many plot twists - it left me wanting more!

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, also known as "When They Cry," is a Japanese horror anime and visual novel series. Originally created by Ryukishi07, the series is set in the fictional village of Hinamizawa and follows a group of friends who become involved in mysterious, often violent events. As much as I love Elfen Lied, this show fits the horror genre perfectly. I have watched most of it, and it is so creepy. It isn't entirely gory like Elfen Lied, but it has a really creepy atmosphere that keeps the suspense high. Halfway through, you can almost predict what will happen.

Best horror anime. Recommended by me. (I haven't actually watched Another, though.)

Season 1 scares and confuses the crap out of you. Then Season 2 wraps everything up satisfyingly and beautifully, while still scaring the crap out of you. Its characters are all deep and realistic to some extent, and the mystery and story are excellently laid out for us.

Tokyo Ghoul Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. It was serialized in Shueisha's seinen manga magazine Weekly Young Jump between September 2011 and September 2014, and it has been collected in fourteen tankōbon volumes as of August 2014.

This is my ABSOLUTE favorite anime. I've watched a lot of anime over the years, and this is the goriest one I've ever seen.

I love it, and Kaneki is so badass with his white hair and mask!
All we need now is an uncensored version.

Death Note Death Note is a Japanese television drama anime series based on the manga series of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The show is centered around Light Yagami - a promising highschooler and aspiring detective with a strong sense of "justice".

Not traditionally spooky, but certainly has the best story ever for a horror anime. Are you smart enough to predict what will happen before it does? Will you guess what happens at the end before you see it?

Make sure Kira does not write your name in the notebook, or else your time is short.

Make sure your name is not written in the notebook.

Corpse Party: Tortured Souls

I suggest, with my life, that this is the scariest series containing four episodes you will ever see. I nearly threw up watching them and actually gagged several times due to the guts, gore, and extreme blood and torture!

P.S. If you have Wattpad, search for Sachiko's Game of Madness! It's really bloody but quite good. It's a crossover between Mirai Nikki (The Future Diaries) and Corpse Party that I found. Well, the anime is probably the best horror I have ever seen, so go look it up (the anime). It's also a game too!

Good grief... I made the mistake of watching some of this. Even the RPG is so scary. I get easily scared of paranormal stuff.

Deadman Wonderland Deadman Wonderland is a Japanese manga series written by Jinsei Kataoka and illustrated by Kazuma Kondou, who also wrote and illustrated the Eureka Seven manga, and published in Shōnen Ace since 2008.

Can't wait to see a second series of this totally awesome and gripping anime. Deadman Wonderland is so bizarre and so brilliant. Love it.

It is dark and scary.

Don't be fooled by the park's appearance. It is hell.

Hellsing Ultimate Hellsing is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano. It chronicles the efforts of the mysterious and secret Hellsing Organization, as it combats vampires, ghouls, and other supernatural foes who threaten England.

This one should be higher up on the list. It's one of my favorite horror anime.

Violence Jack Violence Jack is a Japanese manga, co-written and co-illustrated by Go Nagai since 1973, all the way to 2008. It has had several serializations and one-shot stories which have run in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Most of the stories have been compiled in around 45 tankōbon while a few of them... read more

I wish the animation was better, considering the quality of the drawings in the manga, but it's still pretty good overall.

The Contenders
Hell Girl

Love it. But it didn't freak me out a whole lot. The second episode was the main one that scared me because I was watching it when an old man walked onto the front porch and attempted to open the door. I went and got a knife and stood there, mentally daring him to open that door and see how long he lasted.

Also, my second fear is being stalked, so it freaked me out anyway.

The animation was great. The music was incredible. The storyline towards the end of the season was really good, horror-wise. This has become one of my favorite anime of all time.

Ghost Hunt

This anime was entertaining and several times had me scared to go into any room alone.

The only anime that left me wanting more, but had the most perfect ending. I don't know how they could continue. Love this anime!

Hellsing Hellsing is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano. It premiered in Young King OURs in 1997 and ended in September 2008.

Vampires and zombies. Am I missing something?

Easily one of, if not the best horror anime out there. It starts off somewhat slow, but the last few episodes are an unforgettable masterpiece that will stick with you and leave you absolutely terrified.

A freaking amazing anime! My 6th favorite of all time! This is a must-watch horror anime.

Devilman

I love Devilman. It's probably my favorite anime (both Crybaby and the '80s OVAs).

Ghost Stories
Monster Monster (Japanese: モンスター Hepburn: Monsutā, sometimes referred to as "Naoki Urasawa's Monster") is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoki Urasawa. A creepy and mysterious psychological horror anime that is, in one word, AWESOME!

Highschool of the Dead

It wasn't very scary, to be honest, but I think it was still pretty good.

If you say this is just an anime version of The Walking Dead, then you haven't seen this.

Anime version of The Walking Dead.

Terra Formars
Parasyte The anime was simulcast by Crunchyroll outside of Asia. Aside from the manga and anime, the series also has two live-action film adaptations. The Chinese Ministry of Culture blacklisted Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu as well as 37 other works on June 9, 2015... read more

It's just amazing. I watched it in 2 days. It was really creepy, but the end was so beautiful! I was literally crying.
A must-see anime!

Way better than a lot of the horror anime on here. It should be third, behind Elfen Lied and Future Diary.

Forget Tokyo Ghoul. This is obviously better.

Paranoia Agent Paranoia Agent is a Japanese anime television series created by director Satoshi Kon and produced by Madhouse about a social phenomenon in Musashino, Tokyo caused by a juvenile serial assailant named Lil' Slugger.

The most beautiful anime I've ever seen.

This story is fairly interesting, but I would say that the scene at the end was very eventful, and it escalated quickly.

I heard it's bad, but I kinda want to watch it because it seems so absurd. I just want to see what it's like.

Bloody anime. Watch if you dare - or if you just have nothing to do.
