Top 10 Missed Dynasties in NBA History
Whether it was a draft pick or a trade these teams missed out on dynasties by the slightest of margins.I believe that if Michael Jordan did not retire in 1994, the Bulls would have been 8x consecutive NBA champions.
If the Pistons had selected Carmelo Anthony in the 2003 NBA draft, they would have had Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Ben Wallace, Carmelo Anthony, Tayshaun Prince, and Mehmet Okur. If they continued on with the trade to get Rasheed Wallace, they probably would have had at least 5 or 6 championships in their franchise history.
Between last year and this year, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and James Harden have all played like top ten players in the league. What if they were still teammates with the roster that the Thunder has now, including Serge Ibaka, Steven Adams, Enes Kanter, and Andre Roberson? OKC probably would've beaten Golden State.
CP3 teaming up with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Metta World Peace, Andrew Bynum, Derek Fisher, Steve Blake, Lamar Odom, and of course Luke Walton, would have made the Lakers easy champions. Just think what would have happened if Dwight Howard went there to team up with them.
Michael Jordan admitted that he would not have developed as well with the Blazers as with the Bulls. And though that is true, I would have liked to see Michael Jordan and Clyde Drexler team up together.
If the Warriors had kept Wilt, so he could still team up with Rick Barry, Guy Rodgers, and Nate Thurmond, I personally believe that the Warriors could have still been title contenders. That group could dethrone Bill Russell's Celtics at least one year, right?
What if the T-Wolves had drafted Curry instead of Jonny Flynn? They would have had Stephen Curry, Kevin Love, Al Jefferson, and other decent players like Ricky Rubio and Corey Brewer. Maybe not title contenders, but they would have been an easy playoff team.
Pair Durant up with LaMarcus Aldridge, Brandon Roy, and Channing Frye and the Blazers would have had an amazing team in a few years.
I'm not saying that they would have won a lot of championships, but if he teamed up with Muggsy Bogues, Dell Curry, and Anthony Mason, they would have had a pretty good backcourt. Next, just pick up a good big man or two and you've got yourself a championship-contending team.
Why would the Nuggets trade an All-Star like Melo? If they had kept him, he could have teamed up with Ty Lawson, Raymond Felton, J.R. Smith, Danilo Gallinari, Arron Afflalo, Nene, Chris Anderson, Wilson Chandler, Timofey Mozgov, and Kenyon Martin. Could they have been a championship team?
