Top 10 NBA Teams with the Best Future in 2020
Teams in the NBA are either trying to build for the future, competing to win now, or attempting to do both. The teams focusing on building for the future are also striving to remain moderately competitive while developing young talent. These are the teams that excel the most at balancing these priorities. They have promising young players, strong coaching and management, and a great organizational culture. Keep all of these factors in mind when voting.
The Mavericks have the brightest future, in my opinion. They obviously have Luka, who is a top five player in the league in only his second season. He has the potential to be the number one player in the league in a few years. He has a great sidekick in KP. Then they have a great team around them. They have very good management. Mark Cuban is always willing to spend, and Rick Carlisle is a top ten coach in the league.
The Pelicans are scary. They have a lot of good young players. Zion, Lonzo, Ingram, Hayes, Hart, Alexander-Walker, and more. They also have a large number of picks. They have trade bait players in Jrue Holiday and Derrick Favors. They have very competent management.
The Memphis Grizzlies are going to be very scary. They have Ja Morant. They have Jaren Jackson Jr., then a bunch of good young players to surround them. Their management has done everything perfectly since they drafted Ja. Their coach is also very good. They have also rebuilt their whole culture in about two years. That is amazing.
If the Bucks keep Giannis, which will probably happen, they will dominate for at least five to six years barring injury. The management in Milwaukee is great. They also have a top five head coach in the league. The culture in Milwaukee and the overall city itself is amazing.
Miami is good. They have good young players and they have a lot of cap space for 2021. In my opinion, they have a top-five coach in Eric Spoelstra. They also have a top-three front office led by Pat Riley. They have a great culture in Miami, focused on hard work. Additionally, Miami is an awesome city with significant free agent appeal.
Toronto is a great organization. They have a lot of good young talent and they are arguably the best team at development. They have, in my opinion, the best coach in the league, Nick Nurse.
The Sacramento Kings are so underrated. This year they struggled with injuries to key players and they are still in a position to make the playoffs. Fox is a great player and can definitely make the all-star team in two to three years. They have Bagley who has struggled with injuries, but give him time. They just need to get a great coach and then get better management.
OKC is interesting. They have Shai and some good veterans like Chris Paul and Danilo Gallinari (he could leave though), and they've got a lot of picks. What do they do? They can use CP3 as trade bait, but I honestly don't think Shai will become a superstar like some believe. They just have to nail these picks. Let's see if they can do it.
The Sixers are in turmoil. They have two players that can't maximize their potential playing with each other. They also have an incompetent coach and inconsistent management. We cannot ignore the fact they have two top ten players and a lot of good role players. They just have to touch up on some things.
The Clippers are interesting. They have these two superstars. Kawhi and PG. They both have their contracts expiring in the summer of 2021. A lot of teams will have cap space. Their role players are also getting old, Patrick Beverly, Reggie Jackson, and Lou Williams. Harrell will also demand a decent-sized contract. Can the Clippers keep these players? Regardless, they still have a top ten coach in Doc Rivers, and they have a great management group and an owner who will spend anything, Steve Ballmer.
