Best Super Sentai Series

The Top Ten

1 Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger

This is such a great series. After watching it I was simply amazed about how great it was. At first I thought it would be a tribute series but it was much more than that. It was well worth watching and I would encourage you to watch it. Simply an Amazing show! Lets Go! Lets! Gokaiger!

Hands down the best! Everything good and fun about Super Sentai is represented here. The main characters are all really likeable... And how can you go wrong with the pirate theme as these anti-heroes (initially) become true heroes! A fun ride in every way. I will definitely revisit this season again after I'm through watching. I you only own one season of Super Sentai, this should be the one!

Beyond simply a tribute series, Gokaiger utilized and perfected just about every nessisary element of a good (or rather, great) Sentai series. Between the costumes, the previous sentai references, the characters (including character growth and interaction) and the sheer scope of the season, Gokaiger was brilliant. The only crucial flaw would be the Zankyak not entirley living up to their hype as powerful villains, although the inclusion of Basco as a secondary villain more than made up for this.

The series was amazing! All the main characters had so much depth and heart. It was funny, sad, action-packed you name it! The actors really nailed their roles! Greatest Super Sentai!

2 Chōjin Sentai Jetman

The only weakness on Jetman was over-act by the actors (on some scenes)
The rest is just masterpiece among sentai series.
Story, character, models, villain, songs and of course... Black condor
While most of sentai focusing on heroes greatness journey, this gold, takes time to build villain character too. The way I see it, no other sentai does that. Along the series, you may sympathize both heroes and villain.
Well, this sentai maybe little bit for adults (based on theme-setting-story).
To make it short, this Sentai not only lovely just because they are Sentai series, but they can live it with the stories itself. Simply best.

The concept of the superheroes is clear: bird ranger. This affects the costumes, which is, awesome.

*unique plot. unlike the other super sentai, Jetman begins the story with unexpected conditions: earthship destrotyed, only one Jetman remains (Ryu Tendo) and the commander Aya Odagiri. It forces them to search for the other rangers from every corner of Japan.
the other rangers are usual humans, common people. they are not actual rangers. this is what's really interesting and the plus point from this sentai.

*unique characters: each person in team has their own characteristics, Ryu the patriot, Raita the goof, Ako the tomboyish, Kaori the feminine, Gai the arrogant rebellious (this is the most unique one, I highly appreciate it).

*moral values in every episode. there are always moral values that the serial writer wants to share to the audience. This is a very very good point that Jetman has. this is what makes it outstanding.

*tends to be adult-audience. ...more

Most probably the most awesome costume and character design and they were so much life in this story that I couldn't help watch it over and over especially the ending, even though it ended sad but it was for the best and to this day I still bow down Black Condor as my Super Sentai idol, heck yeah

Aired in 1991 and featured a bird motif, an homage to the anime and manga Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Jetman also featured the first tertiary robot that could operate on its own and a manga epilogue that introduced a new Jetman.

3 Samurai Sentai Shinkenger

Aired in 2009, using a samurai and other aspects of Japanese culture as its motif. Like Go-onger before it, its theme song single also ranked highly on the Oricon, reaching #4 on the Daily Ranking Charts on its day of release. Shinkenger featured the first crossover with the Kamen Rider Series it aired alongside: Kamen Rider Decade. It also features the first female red warrior, introduced towards the end of the series.

The BEST Super Sentai series I have watched throughout my life. It's been about 7 years and it's still my favorite! I like how they used Japanese culture which was the samurai part and the origami which was really unique. Being the first Sentai series to first ever cross over with Kamen Rider(Decade) was really awesome! All of the characters grew together as a team and really showed a family bond or a very friendly bond towards eachother. The characters really keep you wanting to watch it and they are really funny without being really cheesy. This also can be considered a drama which I also find really awesome and unique because, other sentai did not feel like a sort of drama and, I enjoyed the little parts of drama they put in here! Overall this series was a huge hit with the song and the cast! The cast was amazing and this series was just too good! I wish they can make another comeback!

The Shinkenger characters kept me captivated throughout the series. They really grew together as a team. The villains were awesome too. I had no trouble racing through this show. Although it does suffer from "mecha overload" and there are too few Chiaki episodes, I'm finding it hard to complain about the series at all.

Very traditionally Japanese, mature and interesting series! Both children and adult fans would love it! I like the Green ranger - Chiaki the most. Character developments are well done. Comedy elements are creative and really funny. The plot and acting are both awesome!

4 Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger

Aired in 2004 and uses a crime fighting motif with its heroes fighting extraterrestrial criminals. Dekaranger features the first semi-regular seventh hero (DekaMaster) and three additional heroines who appear once each throughout the series: DekaSwan (episode 36), DekaBright (ep. 40), and DekaGold (Dekaranger The Movie: Full Blast Action). This series started the tradition of a "passing the torch" segment after the ending credits of the series finale: the red warrior of the series that has just ended interacts with the red warrior of the upcoming series.

Best sentai series ever! I love their uniform design, simple but so modern and also their unique characters and plots! So fun to watch no matter how many times you have done so.

This is the best. No one can be better! Everyone should be liking it! I really like it more than others. It is just so awesome NONE CAN BEAT IT IT IS AWESOME. IT IS BOSS@

It's my childhood, I'm really like this. The best super sentai is dekaranger

5 Gosei Sentai Dairanger

Dairanger was the second sentai I watched and one I my all time favorites. Great costumes great action great choreography, what more could you want? This show set the be high when it comes to out of suit fights. It has a Chinese martial arts theme and it's really fun. Only complaints from me are that I think Kiba ranger was not used that well and the ending is a little out there... But that just ads to the fun. Watch it, you won't be disappointed.

The aesthetic is on point with this show, has a martial arts vibe the drew me in as I'm a big fan of hong kong action cinema, this was the first sentai show I watched and I can definitely recommend this to new comers

I like their design and chinese motifs also very unique character. This is also very interesting stories

It's a great show that has a lot of well written characters, some tense drama, makes EVERY member of the team feel important, and Is just a blast to watch and enjoy. The costumes great, mecha great, the villians are creative and fun

6 Mirai Sentai Timeranger

It was the first Super Sentai I ever watched, as my favorite Power Ranger series was Timeforce. The series has an inspiring theme of defying your destiny. Because the four rangers come from a future where they all have a foretold destiny, they bring with them their baggage and cynicism. But due to the Red Ranger being from the present, he is a staunch idealist and eventual convinces the other four that they have power to alter their own future.

This was the First Sentai series that I watched and it has the darkest storyline in Super Sentai I really liked watching the episodes again and again for 2 weeks it was a great Sentai Series I just only wished they made a second season for timeranger with new villains from the future

Aired in 2000 and featured a time travel motif (four of the five main heroes are police officers from 3000). Timeranger features the first additional hero whose costume is the same color as one of the original heroes.

The characters in Timeranger are masterfully written and the story in very good. The mecha designs are also great and the soundtrack is perfection. The only downfall is the generic villains. 9/10 would recommend.

7 Ninja Sentai Kakuranger

Kakuranger has characters unlike any other Sentai season. It is comically underrated, and often is overlooked due to the US adaptation being the Alien Rangers, a terrible filler season before Power Rangers Zeo aired. The cinematography is amazing and at times creepy. The charm of it's age serves it well. Whilst there are goofy elements of Kakuranger, it is a solid season with a strong narrative.

Aired in 1994 and had a ninja motif, and a motif loosely based on the classic Journey to the West. As another anniversary series, the crossover Super Sentai World was produced featuring the characters of Fiveman, Jetman, Zyuranger, Dairanger and Kakuranger. Kakuranger also featured the first five-piece secondary robot.

I had watch super Sentai more than I can remember...but the only one that stick to my mind only this and maskman...

I think this season was the best, especially because of the Flowery Kunoichi Team.

8 Tokumei Sentai Go-Buster

A very dramatic, heavy super sentai, filled nicely with some humor here and there. To be honest I teared up at some touching moments. I rarely felt that in sentai series. Great background music also contributed a lot.
The action is great, mecha fight is good too.
Plus a very clever villain Enter.
Well-rounded series, one of the best!

It is best super sentai ever. The villains Enter and Escape are best. New storyline, good graphics. Amazing!

Watched all the episodes in nearly 2 weeks. Engaging episodes that keep you captivated and wanting more. Based around cyberspace, villian Enter and the rest of the go busters have great character development. A must watch for all!

Go-Busters is awesome, one of the best seasons in history.

9 Denji Sentai Megaranger

Aired in 1997 using electronics and space travel as a motif. Megaranger featured the first silver-colored hero and the evil Nejiranger team who serve as villains for an entire story arc.

One of the best sentai with its own original evil sentai hero team

I just started watching Japanese sentai this year but have watched Power Rangers since Mighty Morphin. I skipped seasons after in Space and have watched it sparingly over the years. I would have to say after watching MegaRanger and Starting TimeRanger they are my top two series. I loved Timeforce as well.

Top 5 season right here! Teenagers with attitude and the Silver ranger, A.W.E.S.O.M.E. series!

10 Juken Sentai Gekiranger

With an easy going story at first episodes, it was unexpected that it's plot has complicated enough conflicts. And it's story feels interesting with their way that the way to become stronger is to training more n more without giving up...

Good Suit, Story and Plot. The Conflict between Jan and Rio was Superb

Kung Fu themed sentai with awesome music that is inspired by East Asian cultures. The majority of the cast is likable. The main villian himself is a ranger which is always awesome.

Like the first primary 3 team res yellow girl and blue

The Contenders

11 Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger

Aired in 2002 and used a ninjutsu motif, taking elements from Kakuranger as well as Liveman. Hurricaneger features the rival Gouraiger team with insect-themed powers, the free agent Shurikenger, and a series of smaller mecha that serve as weapons for the teams' robots.

This series was the first to feature a red member that has NO indoor voice, it was also the one series with it's very own reunion movie

Because I love power rangers ninja storm that is why I love it

This series doesn't get its due among fans. It has some pretty amazing episodes, and then you have SHURIKENGER! BEST SIXTH RANGER!

12 Tensou Sentai Goseiger

Tensou Sentai Goseiger was the first Super Sentai series that I ever watched from beginning to end, and it has remained one of my favorites. The series may not be perfect, but it has a TON of heart. The Goseigers themselves are quite likable (and become more so over time), the villain does his job extremely well, the action is great, and it all leads to a very satisfying conclusion. I'd actually recommend this series to anyone looking for a basic introduction to Super Sentai.

Oh, and Gosei Knight is a supreme badass.

The show was great! I like the angel theme, and the most exciting part in here is the final villain who I really didn't expect to be the final one, I like all of the episode of this Super Sentai Series!

This should be higher it's my favorite series but I'm still happy it's in the top ten

Very creative with villains based on popular movies

13 Choujuu Sentai Liveman

This show had a great theme (which is Life) the relationship between the heroes and villains were gut wrenching, plus there were so many first like female blue ranger, more rangers added later in the show, animal mech, two robots combine into one. The show was simply groundbreaking

Aired in 1988 and featured the first addition of two new team members to a three-person team as well as the first combination of two individual robots into a single powerful robot.

Their costumes are extremely amazing looking. They are also like the predecessors to go onger with their ranger colors and zord formations.

My second ever sentai and I loved it I love most* characters and the Zords are awesome and green and yellow are my favorite it's really good

14 Engine Sentai Go-onger

Aired in 2008, featuring an ecological theme: the antagonists are seeking to pollute the Earth. It also features the first female additional hero who joins with a male additional hero, bringing the team size to seven regular members, and the first twelve-piece combining robot. Go-onger was also the first Super Sentai Series to have its theme song single reach the top-ten of the Oricon Weekly charts at #4, after selling 22,000 records in its first week of being released and the theatrical release of its VS Series entry Engine Sentai Go-onger vs. Gekiranger to commemorate the 15th entry of the VS Series.

This is my only one favourite Super Sentai series. It's wonderful and fantastic! Engine Sentai Go-Onger featured the amazing friendship through challenging and miserable adventures between seven members. Especially, the family love of brother and younger sister, it contributed to inspire other members and also the audience. This series transmitted feelings and mood to the audience successfully, so you can feel the warm and comfortable family love, trust power of partners, the reckless for justice, the pure and innocent one-side love. I really recommend you to watch it. Thank you!

I love this Series. It is one of my favorites out of the Super Sentai Series. I still Have more to watch and have watched about six of them. LOVE IT!.

This show relates more to Carranger

15 Dengeki Sentai Changeman

Aired in 1985 and featured a motif based on legendary creatures in European traditions. Changeman was the first series to feature a team cannon formed from the five team members' individual weapons.

In my opinion the best Super Sentai show of the 80s, even though it didn't advertise much with the toys but it does heavy on story.

The king of Super Sentai in Brazil.

16 Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger

Aired in 1992 and used dinosaurs (and other extinct megafauna) as a motif. Zyuranger was later adapted into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for American audiences, beginning the Power Rangers franchise.

The tiger ranger costume is cursed! Only a man can wear it, that is the reason for the actresses being put in the fates the were in :-(

May the lord have mercy on whoever is the Yellow Gokaiger.

More suitable for a younger audience

Best action and story.

17 Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGoFive

Aired in 1999 using an emergency service motif. GoGoFive is the first series since Jetman to only feature five heroes. Additional heroes appear in one of its V-Cinema productions.

An awesome siblings team ever. The Mecha looks so great and so real. And don't forget they have a bad-ass siblings enemy too.

This is one of the most underrated sentai series. But if you followed the story I bet you'll like it.
All characters have strong personalities and this is the best family team in super sentai (from formation, personalities, relation to the greatest tag team ever).
While the story itself is very epic and worth to wait for every episodes.
And personally I think this is the most realistic sentai. It has no mystic power nor too futuristic gadget and mecha.

Very unique with a lot of twists

18 Choushinsei Flashman

Aired in 1986 and was the first series to add a second giant robot for the team to fight with. The team members' powers come from their upbringings on planets with different environmental conditions.

It was also the first sentai team where Red DIDN'T pilot a jet machine!

É o melhor: crítico, com bom pano de fundo, inteligente e cheio de drama! É o melhor!

19 Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman

Story line is very unique. Also showed weaknesses in their characters making the series very realistic. Great storyline

Aired in 1990 and featured both an antagonistic team of villainous counterparts and a team power upgrade armor.

Possibly the last super sentai show to have enemy fighter planes in it until Ohranger, then Go-Onger.

20 Shuriken Sentai Ninninger

Ninninger is very awesome. The young characters, the story, the family values makes it worth watching. And it's funny" I love Ninninger. It's in my top 10!

It's my favourite sentai ever

It's so goos I don't even know why it's on place 39 :o (shinkenger and kyoryuger is also good)

It's unfortunate that Ninninger is second-last, when in my opinion it's awesome. Boukenger, Go-Onger, Goseiger, Gokaiger, Kyoryuger and ToQger are the seasons I've seen besides it, and Ninninger is just so wacky and ridiculous that it just works for me. Plus, the mecha are the best I've seen so far.

21 Mahou Sentai Magiranger

The themes of courage and family being able to overcome everything are really positive and uplifting, the character development is the best ever due to how any given episode focuses on two characters and the relationship between rather than just one character by themselves, MagiKing is the best main mech, and the story structure is just exquisite; three main arcs, each with several mini-arcs, resulting in the storyline constantly building up, making each episode feel like it matters, and they do. The magic is innovative and creative, leading to unique fight scenes and finishers unlike anything any other sentai has to offer. The villains have a regular changing of the guard, keeping things fresh throughout the show's run, and the Infershia Pantheon is absolutely awe-inspiring, each member well fleshed out despite only arriving in the last third of the show.

Aired in 2005 uses a magic motif with mecha that are the heroes transformed. Magiranger features an entire family of heroes: the core team are all brothers and sisters, the sixth hero marries one of the core team members, and rarely used seventh and eighth heroes are the parents to the core team.

An awesome siblings team ever. The Mecha looks so nostalgic (just like super robot era in 70s) and so awesome. And don't forget they have a bad-ass enemy too.

I like this sentai. It's has no typical thing. Like Red is not the oldest and anything else. I enjoyed so much every each episode. So great and fun.

22 Battle Fever J

Battle Fever as shown in it's entirety, fully subtitled in Hawaii, and as such has a special place in the hearts of Hawaii kids of that generation. Before Toei counted GoRanger and JAKQ, BFJ was regarded as the first Super Sentai, and it still has that classic aire about it. The theme was of foreign exchange/cooperation (with each member having spent time training in a foreign country).

It had it's silly side, but it also had many serious episodes. Particularly the death of Battle Cossack was tragic, poignant and well played. Other episodes had friends that were corrupted and could not be redeemed and had to be killed. Many episodes involved the corruption of moral character, and the degredation of society.

Many people don't care for the costume designs, like France having a chomage or a sphnix head on cossack. Miss America was particularly disliked, but really she was based on the Marvel's Miss America character of the same name and actually really resembles her. ...more

Aired in 1979 and featured an international group of characters. This series was the first to be produced by Marvel Comics after Toei and Marvel worked together on Spider-Man and featured characters resembling Captain America and Miss America. Battle Fever J also featured the first giant robot, an idea carried over from the Spider-Man production. From then on, the series' official name came to be Super Sentai.

It has a weird name if you ask me

Battle Fever J is the best show you never watched. Every season has it's own shtick; Zyuranger was dinosaurs, Gokaiger was pirates, and so on and so forth. Being the child of 1978, Battle Fever J was about ethnic stereotypes and disco.
Five super-agents are recruited, and I am quoting this show directly, "for their mastery of different types of dancing", to fight against a terrorist organization. Though all of the characters have Japanese names and are played by Japanese actors, they represent different countries; Japan, America, etc.
The real treat of this show are the fight scenes, wherein the heroes will dance-battle their way through waves of masked henchman with their nationally assigned kung fu breakdancing skills. Battle France, who fights with Flamenco Dancing! Battle Kenya, who fights with Racially Insensitive Dancing! Battle United Soviet Socialist Republics, who fights with the power of Cossack Dancing!
On top of having the single goofiest possible premise, the ...more

23 GoGo Sentai Boukenger

Aired in 2006 using adventure and treasure hunting as themes and automobiles as a motif. It is the first series to be filmed in high-definition. As the 30th Anniversary series, it included the 30 Sentai Encyclopedia featurettes at the end of each episode and the GoGo Sentai Boukenger vs. Super Sentai V-Cinema release. Unlike previous series, Boukenger featured multiple groups of loosely allied antagonists instead of one overarching antagonist group.

Many things that make this series not bored to watch, like villain in this series are many, and the story is complex

Boukenger managed to do what a good Sentai series should do- create a plot and characters which are interesting and make you invested in them. Between a BoukenBlue who is a reformed Spy, a Bouken Black who is a vessel for dark energy, a Bouken Silver who was the lovechild of a forbidden romance and is both monster hunter and part vampire and a Bouken Yellow who is the hibernating descendant of an ancient and all powerful race on top of the other Sentais; the cast of heroes have some fantastic stories.

The villains are equally interesting, all 4 camps of them, and all with different goals, despite sometimes co-operating.

These are matched by a plot which both intelligently progresses and keeps you guessing while constantly dangling vague clues in front of you about one mystery or another that is unraveling during the series.

While a slow starter; Boukenger is a series that within a few episodes, has you completely hooked and waiting for the next one.

Many things I like from this series, like the soundtrack, the cast of the characters, the plot of the stories, the solidarity of the team though sometimes they quarelled but they can make the story more interesting with their conflict...

24 Denshi Sentai Denziman

Aired in 1980 and was the first series completely produced by Toei. It is the first series to have a transforming giant robot and utilize an actual lens visor in the suits' helmet (unlike previous series where the visor was made of the same fiber of the helmet)

Green lantern power

25 Taiyou Sentai Sun Vulcan

Aired in 1981 and served as an indirect sequel to Denziman, with Machiko Soga's Queen Hedrian character returning. It featured the first combining robot to be used, a trend that continues throughout the Super Sentai Series.

It was also the first team to have ONLY 3 core members, the others are Hurricanger, Abaranger, Gekiranger, and Go-Onger! Liveman only had three core members for 29 episodes.
