The Packers are one of the NFL's most storied franchises, and having been around for over 100 years, they have had some pretty good teams. Here are some of the best of those teams.You could make an argument for other teams, but the 1996 Green Bay Packers are the best Packers team of all time so far. In this season, not only did they win Super Bowl XXXI, but Brett Favre won MVP, and they had the #1 ranked offense, defense, and special teams. How often does that happen? This team was an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. Facing prime Brett Favre and Reggie White were absolute nightmares for the opposing teams. This is also one of the NFL's best teams of all time. Until we see a better Packers team, this is the best one so far.
The prime of the Lombardi Dynasty in Titletown, these Packers had hall of famers on both sides of the ball. Bart Starr, Jim Taylor, and Paul Hornung ran the offense, while Ray Nitschke, Herb Adderley, Willie Wood, and Willie Davis all ran the defense. This Packers team was Lombardi's best team, and they ended the season with a hard-fought win over the New York Giants 16-7 in the NFL Championship Game. Fortunately for the Packers, the dynasty would only continue from here.
The year they won the first Super Bowl was yet another championship on Vince Lombardi's resume. The Packers had a big regular season, dominated the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL Championship Game, and ran over the Chiefs in Super Bowl I. This is probably the most famous team of the Lombardi Era in Green Bay.
The year before 1962, the Packers had another dominant season with all of their hall of famers. It was the year after their heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1960 NFL Championship Game. This time, there would be no heartbreak, with the Packers going on to obliterate the New York Giants in the 1961 NFL Championship Game 37-0.
Not the best season by Lombardi standards, but the Packers won arguably the most iconic game in NFL history, the Ice Bowl, over the Dallas Cowboys, to advance to Super Bowl II. There, for the second straight year, the AFL team got walloped by the Packers, this time the Oakland Raiders. Unbeknownst to many, this would be the last Packers championship victory for 29 years, until 1996 came along.
The Lambeau Era continued with the Packers dominating most of the NFL, with wide receiver Don Hutson putting up stats that were about 30 years ahead of his time. He was absolutely dominant on offense as a receiver, defense as a defensive back, and even special teams as a kicker. He was the motor of this championship winning Packers team, where they beat the New York Giants 27-0.
Such an injury riddled team turned out to be one of the NFL's only teams to ever win the Super Bowl while starting as the 6th seed in the playoffs. The Packers weren't great during the season, and not much was expected of them heading into the playoffs. But the story of Aaron Rodgers reached its climax here. Rodgers was pretty much unstoppable in the playoffs, knocking off Michael Vick's Eagles, Matt Ryan's Falcons (the #1 seed), Jay Cutler/Caleb Haine's Bears, and finally Ben Roethlisberger's Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. Rodgers wasn't the only one to perform so well. The defense was also elite, and the Packers haven't had a defense like that since 2010. My hope is for the Packers to help Aaron Rodgers get at least one more ring in his storied career.
Another great Lombardi team, in the NFL Championship Game against the Cleveland Browns, the defense held Jim Taylor to a mere 50 rushing yards, while Jim Taylor completely outplayed him, en route to another championship win for Lombardi's Packers.
A forgotten team in a forgotten time, but they we're champions. How popular we're those Packers in that year, After they beat the Chicago Bears 25-0 to win their first world championship, a victory celebration of 20,000 fans greeted them upon their return from that game. This Packer team had 3 Hall of Famers: Johnny "Blood" Mcnally, Cal Hubbard and Mike Michalske and their great coach Curly Lambeau.

These Packers were looking to repeat as Super Bowl champions, and with most of the same supporting cast as 1996, they got to the big game again. But with John Elway and the Broncos long overdue for a Super Bowl win, and they beat the Packers by a score. This was a great team that fell just short, and who knows what Brett Favre's legacy would look like had he and the Packers won this game.
I know some people wouldn't even put this in the top ten, and I understand that, because of the disappointing end, but this was prime Aaron Rodgers at his finest. With an abysmal defense, Rodgers had one of the best seasons for a quarterback ever, and led a high powered Packers offense to a 15-1 regular season record, only to fall in embarrassing fashion to the 9-7 New York Giants in the NFC Divisional Round. Despite the bad end, I still won't deny how good this Packers team was.
It came just as World War 2 was about to dominate the headlines, the Packers had a great dynamic duo of Arnie Herber and the legendary Don Hutson, The Packers made short work of the Western Division title despite a scare from the Chicago Bears. Then in the NFL Championship Game they beat a star studded New York Giants team and shut them out 27-0 for their fifth amazing NFL Championship.
