NFL Teams Most Likely to Tank for the 2019 NFL Season
At the point we are in of the NFL offseason, we can make a good guess of which NFL teams are in it for the Super Bowl, and which ones are taking a so called, “off year.” These are the teams that are desperate for a quarterback or just need a year to recuperate. Here, we are looking at the top ten NFL teams most likely to tank for the 2019 NFL season. This is pretty obvious at this point. They have practically said that they are tanking in 2019. Need evidence? They have a first-year head coach in Brian Flores, who needs to teach players his system. Secondly, they traded Ryan Tannehill to the Titans and signed Ryan Fitzpatrick (back to the AFC East) to make up for his absence.
Also, they signed almost no one in free agency, with the most notable signing being tight end Dwayne Allen. By not signing anyone, however, they are setting themselves up to have the most cap space in the NFL in 2020. If the draft is successful in 2019, then maybe they can successfully tank for Tua in 2020.
First off, the front office of Cincinnati isn't doing a good job of running things here. All they did in free agency was re-sign players. No new additions. So little talent here.
Secondly, like Miami, they have a first-year head coach in Zac Taylor. Considering they're not supplying him with much talent, it looks like they're waiting to make a splash until 2020. They have a lot of work to do. But as their division rival Browns have shown, you can go from talentless to talent-filled in one season.
I don't like the direction this team is going. It seems safe to say that Cleveland has handed them the baton of being the basement team.
All signs are pointing to a complete roster rebuild in New York. Letting Landon Collins walk and trading Olivier Vernon and Odell Beckham hinted to many that something was up with the Giants. Or maybe it is just that Dave Gettleman is insane.
Honestly, at this point in time, I am not sure if Gettleman even knows what he is doing. Perhaps they want to skip 2019's relatively weak quarterback draft class and get to 2020, with talent like Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert. The Giants have every reason to tank in 2019, and I believe that they will. Saquon will not be happy.
I feel that the Panthers are primed to tank in 2019. Why, you may ask? Well, Cam Newton is getting injured quite often, and that has made me think, "Maybe they are considering moving on from him." It doesn't seem completely far-fetched.
Also, while the team has pretty good talent on both sides of the ball with Christian McCaffrey and Luke Kuechly, they still have a lot of holes on their roster, most notably at safety and wide receiver. Not to mention they didn't do anything notable in free agency. I see the signs. The Panthers look like they are going to tank in 2019.

They have a serious quarterback situation. Despite the trade for immediate relief in Case Keenum, they need to look at the long-term outlook. I think they should tank for a quarterback in 2020. It's a deep class, and they can address their glaring need at wide receiver in 2019.
Perhaps they should move on from Jay Gruden after 2019 and start fresh with a new quarterback and a talented wide receiver in 2020. They can't fix themselves before the 2019 season, but maybe they can do it before the 2020 season begins.
This team is a mess right now. What happened to them? Ben Roethlisberger is being attacked, Antonio Brown caused drama and was traded, and Le'Veon Bell is now a Jet. This isn't the same team from 2014-2017. They have to overcome so much now, and it makes more sense than ever to tank.
Big Ben is getting up there in age, and it may be time to find him a successor. Like I have said before, 2020 has a great quarterback class. Also, Mike Tomlin needs to go after 2019. It may take longer than 2019 to fix themselves, but tanking is a start.
Yeah, I know they were terrible already in 2018, and they probably want to win in 2019. But I see reason to tank. Potentially trading 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen is a start. They would waste their 2019 pick on a quarterback in Kyler Murray and would set them back.
Just because your new head coach likes a quarterback doesn't mean you have to draft him. It will set them far behind their rivals in the NFC West and set them up to waste Larry Fitzgerald's potential final year in Arizona.
Not very likely, given that Mike Zimmer is on the hot seat now, but this isn't the 2017 Vikings. Their quarterback is overpaid and their defense has regressed. It may be a project to fix them, and they may need a top ten pick in 2020.
So far, Captain Kirk has been the definition of overrated. The defense has also not been the same. A high pick wouldn't hurt.
As a Denver fan who has watched many a Ravens game, I know Joe is not the long-term answer to the quarterback problem. He is a short-term fix that will need to be repaired, although probably not this year. We finally fired our idiot coach, Vance Joseph, and we look set for a decent year.
John Elway traded for Joe Flacco, indicating that Denver is still in win-now mode. However, maybe it's the right time for them to lose some games and draft a quarterback in 2020.
Most expected them to tank in 2018, but they ended up in the playoffs. This year is different, however. With their defense a shell of its former self, Frank Clark's dissatisfaction, and a pending Russell Wilson extension, Seattle needs to rebuild.
This year should be the rebuilding year we all thought last year would be.
Good, one less loss to Minnesota next season. Maybe we can break the curse against the Seahawks.
