Mr. Gold
I have got Mr. Gold. No joke, I have No. 135. Here's my story.
Confession time: I didn't genuinely find Mr. Gold, but I went through a lot to try and get him. When I first heard of it, I thought, I need that. It'd be any minifigure collector's dream to get it, as I'd already had every single LEGO minifigure up to Series 10, and Mr. Gold would be an amazing addition. To have one of 5000 sitting on my minifigure shelf would be incredible.
I bought an entire box of Series 10 and unfortunately didn't manage to find him, but on the bright side, I managed to get every single figure of Series 10 from it, plus swaps of every single one (except Medusa).
I eventually stopped believing I'd ever get him after realizing that the odds were incredibly low. Even buying five boxes wouldn't guarantee finding him. Then it was my 12th birthday when I saw a huge cardboard box filled with nothing but packing peanuts, or whatever they're called. I was confused until I came across a box of Ferrero Rochers. Yaaay, they're one of my favorite chocolates.
But then my mum said that wasn't all. I dug further down inside the box and saw a LEGO Minifigure Series 10 packet. No way. It can't be him. Can it? Why would my parents give me a swap? I opened the packet and there he was, the treasure I'd been wanting for months. Mr. Gold. Number 135 out of 5000.
I couldn't believe what I'd seen and had no idea what my parents must've gone through to get me this. £700 on eBay. Yep, £700. I also got a made-up certificate from them showing all the members of my family who contributed money toward getting this golden figure. It was just purely beyond belief.... read more
