Top 10 Things that are Beautiful and Scary

In life, there are many beautiful things us humans are able to witness or feel, but many of these things are also scary.
The Top Ten
1 Volcanoes

Seeing pictures or videos of an erupting volcano, let's say in a documentary, seeing all the fire and the lava come out of a volcano looks beautiful, but at the same time it's scary when you think of all the damage eruptions can cause.

The city I live in (well sort of) was pretty much built on land from erupting volcanoes. They are dormant for now but it could change.

Volcanoes look really cool.

Volcanoes are awesome

2 Love

Love is a beautiful thing, but at the same time it's a very scary thing as you never know what is going to happen. You do get a lot of memories from it though, hopefully good ones. And it's not just scary when it comes to romantic relationships, it can be scary when it comes to family members, maybe someone in your family lost their way or has issues in their lives and it can feel scary.

Love is definitely scary.

3 Space

The first time any astronaut goes into space, it must be so scary. Anything goes wrong and you're a goner. Seeing the Earth from up there must be beautiful though.

While outer space is fascinating to learn about, being out there all by yourself can be pretty terrifying.

Space is fascinating and incredible in so many beautiful ways. It's also extremely terrifying.

The most sublime thing by far. Staring at the stars is just enough to make me feel anxious.

4 Wild Animals

The wildlife on Earth is one of nature's most beautiful sights. But while animals are beautiful creatures, at the same time they do kill each other, of course it's by no means a horrible thing as predators have to eat their prey to survive, it's how life works, but many predators are scary. If your favorite animal is a bear, I can guarantee you you wouldn't want to come across one while taking a walk in the woods.

5 Fire

Fire can be a destructive force, but it can also look beautiful. For example, sitting next to a campfire is relaxing and you often can't help but stare in the flames.

6 Lightning

Seeing lightning bolts in the sky is very pretty, if you've ever seen some of the pictures photographers have taken of lightning storms, you'll know. While they do look pretty, believe me, hearing that thunder hit can feel very scary.

7 The Ocean

Looking at the ocean can feel calming, but when there's a storm, it's the complete opposite. Not to mention that if you've seen shark movies like Jaws, just being on a boat can feel scary just knowing all the creatures that are living right underneath you.

8 Dreams

In my opinion, one of the most terrifying yet incredible things in the world. Every night, the knowledge that whether I dream of magical, happy lands or terrifying, bloody deaths is completely out of my control sends shivers down my spine. A nightmare is a horrible, horrible thing.

True. I've had dreams where I just explore beautiful and odd places, funny dreams with talking inanimate objects and fictional characters come out of nowhere, and a few dreams where I was in a near-death situation (crushed by garage door, falling into a lava pit, in a building under attack by aliens, etc.)

9 Heaven

Imagine you're in Biblically accurate Heaven with all the angels. That would probably be startling along with all the other supernatural things happening around you but you are free of suffering. If you were on Earth and suddenly saw Heaven in your physical body you would be much more terrified. - holaday

10 The United States of America The United States of America, or the U.S.A. for short, is a federal republic composed of 50 states, 48 of them are contiguous states. There are two other states, Alaska and Hawaii, which are north and south of the contiguous states, respectively. The United States declared its independence from the British Empire in 1776 with the Declaration of Independence. They won their independence in 1783 with the Treaty of Paris. Its capital, Washington D.C. (District of Columbia) is defined by imposing neoclassical monuments and buildings including the iconic ones that house the federal government's 3 branches: the Capitol, White House and Supreme Court. Though it has no official language, English and more.
The Contenders
11 Tornadoes

Tornadoes are one of the scariest and most dangerous natural disasters on Earth, but many photographers have been able to capture beautiful pictures of tornadoes.

In a weird way yeah.

12 Rivers

The scariest thing about them is that some of them can lead you to the top of a waterfall

13 Forests

There's nothing quite as beautiful as mother nature, but while forests look beautiful, they are filled with dangerous animals as well as poisonous plants, depending on which part of the world you live in.

14 Women
15 Acrobatics

I love acrobatics, but sometimes it's terrifying, when watching this sport, you hope things will go well.

16 Mountains

From afar, mountains look very beautiful with their many rock formations and their snowy peaks, but if you ever have to climb one, you'll likely find them less beautiful and more terrifying than anything else. And let's not forget that in certain parts of the world, many people have died to an avalanche, killed by tons of snow that came right off those mountains.

17 Fiction
18 Flying
19 Sex

The first time is terrifying at first.

20 Rocket Launches

Seeing a rocket is a beautiful sight, but they can blind you, deafen you, and knock you out from a few miles away. Oh, and realizing that people are on one sometimes just makes the whole thing scarier, as you're seeing these people go up into space and facing all the hazards they might encounter. It just keeps you praying.

21 Storm Clouds

Seeing a storm coming in can look beautiful, but hearing thunder and seeing how sinister storm clouds often look, it's not a reassuring sight.

22 Humans Humans (Homo sapiens) are the most abundant and widespread species of primate, characterized by bipedalism and large, complex brains. This has enabled the development of advanced tools, culture, and language. Humans are highly social and tend to live in complex social structures composed of many cooperating and competing groups, from families and kinship networks to political states. Social interactions between humans have established a wide variety of values, social norms, and rituals, which bolster human society. Curiosity and the human desire to understand and influence the environment and to explain and manipulate phenomena have motivated humanity's development of science, philosophy, mythology, more.
