Top 10 My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Villains
The shape-shifter queen managed to replace and impersonate one of the Equestrian princesses, turn the captain of the guards into a mind-controlled puppet, temporarily take over the Equestrian capital, defeat Celestia in a duel, and alienate Twilight Sparkle from her friends and family. All in her first appearance.
She and Discord share the top of my preferences in villains from this show. They have wits and skills. By comparison, Nightmare Moon was playing mind games with her opponents and posed no physical threat. Tirek seems to be an energy vampire who just tries to drain everyone. Sombra seems to be a mute character and a literal shadow of his former self. Starlight Glimmer, at her worst, was satisfied with controlling a small village. They pale in comparison.
Nothing special to say here besides... Discord is pure chaos, and that's what makes him what he is. Literally, Discord is purely made out of chaos. If there weren't Tirek, I don't think anyone could beat him and his chaos magic of doom!
The reason Discord is the best villain is because he shows how people can change for the better or the worse. Fluttershy showed him kindness when nopony else would. This made Discord change and realize how valuable friendship was to him.
Later on, Tirek convinced Discord to join him in an act of rebellion against Equestria. Discord is a real relatable villain. You can also count on him for a good laugh.

Only because in certain ways he seems a little like Bowser, my favorite villain of all time. He's a big, angry, horned brute like Bowser, and his appearance reminds me of Giga Bowser!
He's one of the most successful villains in the MLP franchise. Sucking magic from ponies to feed him is such a great idea for a villain!
Tirek is so cool! I love that this guy got a backstory. But what I probably love most about him is that awesome fight scene with Twilight Sparkle. Both of them were so OP!
Nightmare Moon has the best reasons to be a villain. She was jealous and was emotionally hurt because no pony cared about her or what she did for them for hours. Then, when she got banished, she had to have been furious!
Being away from any other life form for 1,000 years! Also, in the Season 5 finale, her universe was probably the best one to live in. No war, hiding for your life, mass destruction, pollution, or chaos, just a different way of living normally. She is also the prettiest villain. Go, Nightmare!
Nightmare Moon is the best villain, no doubt about that. She's gorgeous too! But she didn't do that much damage. I know she hurt Celestia once, but spreading eternal night across Equestria is probably the least thing any villain on MLP has done!
I wish Celestia could have turned her. She's my favorite character. I have nothing against Luna, I just wish Nightmare Moon was good, not bad.
She loves her friend Starlight so much.
Truly, yes, she is evil. She prefers to win and have power instead of friends.
Tempest Shadow (Fizzlepop Berrytwist) is totally the number one villain in the show. She has the best singing voice, and I feel so sorry for her. She is so underrated. I mean, her friends abandoned her after she saved them. She can make really cool fireworks, and she deserves a better place on this list than she has now.
She honestly has amazing character development. Even though she was reformed, she managed to take down a lot of the princesses, something not many other villains can do. She can be manipulative and has other traits which perfectly describe an antagonist.
Her cute looks might deceive you, but she is downright evil!
Quote: Friendship isn't magic, it's power!
Not to mention she locked the Mane 6 and Spike up in Tartarus, overthrew Chancellor Neighsay, locked Starlight up in a magical glowing orb, stole magic from Equestria, and blamed it all on the Student 6?! Totally under-appreciated villain.
BEST. VILLAIN. EVER. With her wits and smarts, she doesn't even need strength! She's manipulative and I like it. Despite only being a pegasus, she was able to turn the school against the Young 6, trap Starlight in some weird thingy (I forgot what it was called), and stole all the magic in Equestria!
Oh, and she locked up Twilight and her friends in Tartarus. And (spoilers for those who haven't watched Season 9), in The Ending of the End or whatever it's called, she's freed and becomes an alicorn. She then proceeds to join forces with Chrysalis and Tirek, who basically just turned all of Equestria against each other. She's able to take magic from Princesses Celestia and Luna and then almost win against Twilight and her friends after that, only to be defeated.
Chrysalis and Tirek came to save the day and blew everyone away. Then only Twilight escaped. Yeah, I love her, to summarize (sorry, this was a lot).
Daybreaker has so much power. In season 7, episode 10, Daybreaker melted the dream world, turned it into an asteroid, and made an immortal power.
She is a season 7, episode 10 character. She is an alter ego of Princess Celestia. She is gorgeous and awesomely funny.
This villain was only one-shot. Give her some more screen time before the show ends, Hasbro! She deserves more!
She only cares about herself, and she doesn't understand friendship or loyalty like Rainbow Dash. I hate her!
She will never understand the love of friendship or loyalty like Rainbow Dash. Rainbow is the best and most unique pony. I love Rainbow Dash!
I honestly don't get why this guy didn't make it to the top. I get he didn't do much, but for me, though, he's my top. Seriously, not only is his appearance intimidating, but he also, as one unicorn, had the power to handle two very powerful alicorns. And it required an artifact to beat him.
I'm so disappointed because I feel like this guy deserves way more attention than the amount he's initially getting.
This guy more than proved himself in season 9! Although, this one seems kinda fishy to me. Sombra, the guy who was literally just defeated with the Elements of Harmony, was able to destroy them... and the tree! HOW?!
The Newcomers
Dramatic. He's so dramatic - what's his deal with princesses? Why is it so important?
She may not have as much raw power as Discord or Chrysalis, but her ability to cast complex spells such as duplication, speed, and hypnosis rivals that of Princess Twilight (possibly the other princesses too). She also possesses a signature spell that can remove a pony's cutie mark at will and replace it with an equal sign.
This was confirmed in "The Cutie Map, Pt. 2" when she admitted that none of this [the Village] would've been possible if it weren't for her cutie mark stealing magic. Cutie marks are an essential factor of a pony's destiny and talents, so it's kind of a big deal. She also swapped the Royal Sisters' cutie marks for a day.
Moreover, in "Every Little Thing She Does," she casts a variety of spells that impress Twilight herself, such as the crystal shield and acceleration spells. In the Season 5 finale, the whole history of Equestria was at stake. In "A Matter of Principles," she fired an immensely destructive beam that supposedly "banished" Discord, powered by her hatred and resentment toward him.
She is certainly a formidable opponent. Even Alicorn Twilight couldn't stop her with her own Alicorn magic. She was convinced to stop on her own.
Snails hasn't shown one percent of his power yet. There are several Easter eggs hinting he is a god, plus he is already charismatic and fun.
In my humble opinion, I think that Adagio is the best villain, or at least in the top five. Not only is her design (both human and siren form) aesthetically pleasing, but she, along with Aria and Sonata, has a very good reason for being evil in the first place.
Unlike the Changelings, who can be reformed and no longer really need to worry about feeding anymore since it's a given from being around other ponies and Changelings, the Sirens don't really have a choice. They have to feed off others' hate, or else they will die.
I also forgot to mention how great their songs are. Like seriously. One of the things that I feel a good villain should have is an actual motive for being evil in the first place. Unlike the Mane-iac *cough cough* who was a downright horrible villain who spat out cringy horse puns every few minutes, Adagio and the other Dazzlings have more than achieved this, thus earning them a solid spot in my top five villains.
I love her! She would be nice and generous if her mom didn't control her life!
That little filly is so annoying! Poor Cutie Mark Crusaders.
Sunset was such an awesome villain! So happy she was reformed. I loved her designs as a demon and an angel!
She is bad. You guys don't understand!
Totally hilarious villain. She's one of my favorite MLP characters!
Aria needs to get away from Adagio and Sonata. She seems like a loner to me. If she left the Dazzlings, Aria could have a chance to strike out on her own, become a successful villain, and take revenge, although the revenge plot is a little overused in my opinion.
Also, Aria's resemblance to Starlight Glimmer is a bit unsettling. But yeah, I like her.
She's always trying to take leadership over Adagio in the group. That's what I like about her - always trying to be number one and derail the number one. She's also my favorite MLP character.
Sci-Twi's my favorite character and Midnight Sparkle is a great villain. Way better than Demon Sunset. Midnight Sparkle is way more powerful and way smarter than Demon Sunset ever was. Plus, her motive (knowledge) is better than Demon Sunset's too!
I'm not saying I'm hating on Demon Sunset (which I'm not, I love Demon Sunset and I think they did a great job on her character), but I'm saying that Midnight Sparkle's just better. The end. That's that.
This villain is so underrated, even in the Brony fandom. He appeared in three episodes total. He was a pretty good villain, though I wish the rest of his backstory wasn't revealed. The only bit of backstory that was revealed was that he wanted to be Daring Do's partner, but she arrogantly refused.
We've seen that kind of backstory done several times with villains, but it does teach a good lesson: never treat your biggest fans like crap because they might grow up to become your greatest enemy.
Fun and memorable. Deserves a higher spot. Not top of the list, but certainly higher than he is placed.
