Top 10 Worst Things About Total Drama
Total Drama is at its best when the chaos feels clever, cruel, and just fair enough to keep you yelling at the screen instead of the writers. But when the show starts bending its own rules, rushing arcs, or treating fan favorites like disposable props, you notice. You came for backstabbing, slapstick, and ridiculous camp drama, not plot choices that make you pause and wonder who approved this mess.
This list digs into the moments that make fans groan, rant, and replay old seasons out of spite. Vote for the choices that bug you the most, because somebody has to call the show out before Chris somehow gets put in charge again.
-
Chris becoming a more horrible person
Chris does descend into insanity, and by Revenge of the Island, he's completely lost it.
So horrible, he couldn't even host The Ridonculous Race.
He's the worst character! I'm so glad Don replaced him!
-
Placing non-elimination episodes randomly
I hate this so much. The only time there are non-elimination rounds is when the Amazons win.
-
Beloved characters changing personalities
Courtney's character changes devastated me. The first time I watched the whole show (up to All-Stars and Ridonculous Race, I haven't seen the new season), I just thought, "that's not her." It pissed me off. I feel like Izzy slowly got crazier throughout the seasons. There's more, but I won't get into it.
Nearly every Total Drama character got derailed in some way. Courtney went from being a goody-two-shoes to a spoiled, rude control freak who constantly abused her boyfriend. DJ had absolutely zero use in Total Drama World Tour. His only running gag was the animal curse, which was just sad to watch.

Blaineley lacking screen time in World Tour
They get us all excited, give us the awesome song Blainerific, and then she's kicked off just like that. I hope she's going to have more screen time than that. She's definitely one of my favorite characters in the whole series, along with Dakota and Lindsay!
-
Dawn being eliminated early
Her teammates were very gullible to believe Scott. He just came into the cabin with a bin bag, claiming Dawn was a thief. I'm not sure how they actually believed it.
Blame Scott for this one. She got in the way of his strategy, so he needed to get rid of her.
Robbed!
I really hope she comes back in another season. Maybe she can become friends with DJ and help him get over his curse.
-
Duncan returning in World Tour
Duncan really messed up World Tour. Noah's elimination was unfair because Chris wanted Jack the Ripper (aka Ezekiel), and he got it with Owen. Also, Tyler was eliminated after telling everyone about Duncan and Gwen's kiss. I wish Team Chris had actually won the challenge so the elimination could have gone to Courtney or Gwen.
Also, Duncan won Total Drama Action. He didn't deserve more screen time. Alejandro and Noah's rivalry could have given the show more drama than Gwen and Duncan's relationship. They could have handled things better. That was not Duncan's season.
Having Duncan return was a nice thought, but it should have never happened.
We finally see that Noah is capable of handling things pretty much on his own, and he starts to lose his underdog status. Then what happens? Duncan returns and is the main reason Noah left. Characters like Noah and Tyler could have finally gotten their well-deserved screen time.
-
Sam competing in All-Stars
I know Lindsay being an All-Star was a little weird, but Sam made no sense. Maybe it's because World Tour had more mergers, or they wanted to see the reaction to him without Dakota. It could be something else, but who knows.
How the heck is Sam an All-Star? Sam could have easily been replaced with Brick. Brick saved three of his former teammates, and what does Jo do? She leaves them behind. Sam being an All-Star made no sense.
Why was Sam on All Stars? He played little to no game, and Owen would have been a much better choice.
-
Giving love to some characters and crap to others
Some characters like Gwen, Duncan, Courtney, and others have too much screen time.
Exactly. Not all characters should get that much love or that much crap.
-
Mike pushing the button
When I watched the All Stars finale and saw the button, I was like, "Well, that was anticlimactic."
There could have been a more dramatic way of defeating Mal, but no! The writers just decided to use a puny little button.
The press of a button got rid of Mal and the rest of the personalities. Could they not find a better way than that? Maybe they all could have convinced Mike that Mal was just another personality. Doing this completely destroyed Mike's character. He will not be returning for future seasons, and if he does, don't expect him to last long.
-
Having too many joke characters
Pahkitew Island has had too many joke characters. Ella, Shawn, Rodney, Max, Beardo - and Leonard is number one, what was his purpose? Topher is debatable. I would say Scarlett became a joke at the end.
Annoying. Couldn't get attached to characters when they only have one shtick and no personality aside from it.

Duncan being sent to prison after blowing up Chris's cottage in All-Stars
I mean, you can't really blame the guy. He didn't really like Chris that much.

-
Ennui and Crimson getting eliminated
Honestly, we all knew they weren't going to win, but the reason they lost is upsetting.
-
Courtney returning in Action
If they had her return, the least they could have done was put her in the final two. Really, she placed a lawsuit against the show to return. They never said she had to return as a contestant. They could have made her an intern. Did I mention she took over Justin's role as the antagonist?
Courtney was made to be a character who always makes her lawyers get her back on the show. If she always gets so mad, then just stop competing!
Courtney should've been in Action from the very beginning of the show.
-
Seasons being too short
This, more than anything, is why All-Stars sucked so badly. By cutting the number of episodes in half, you're essentially halving the time to develop characters. Not only that, but you're also forcing yourself to rush development and spend less time on the writing process, which led to badly written plot points becoming infamous - like Courtney's derailment in "Sundae Muddy Sundae" and the reset button in "The Final Wreck-ening."
Are 27 episodes too much now? This is bringing more problems to the seasons. Relationships are rushed - talking to you, Mike and Zoey - leaving them with no bonding time. Others are practically forced. Scott and Courtney, and the same can be said for Dave and Sky.
-
Eliminations being too predictable
Lately, eliminations have become dumb and predictable. A better example of an unpredictable elimination is in The Great Outdoors. Bridgette burned down the tent while Katie and Sadie got lost, costing them the challenge. Maybe a good twist would be something like when Harold rigged the votes against Courtney.
-
Ezekiel and Dakota
What they did to them was just cruel. And it's mostly Chris's fault.
Dakota's wasn't as horrible as she seems happier now than before, but the way her speech changed would kind of suck if you were her. Ezekiel was a lame character from the beginning, but his elimination in season one was caused by a misogynistic comment he made (influenced by his upbringing). He could've had an entire arc where he realizes what the "real world" (according to Duncan) is like and became an actual good competitor. I feel bad for him, not going to lie.
Okay, it was a nice twist to have them turn into monsters. But now - and this really goes for Ezekiel - why have they not gotten some kind of medical treatment? I mean, nobody wanted them to be monsters in the first place.
-
Not having any serious antagonists
As of late, we got these three: Max, a very sorry excuse for a villain. Sugar, a crossbreed between Owen and Heather. And Scarlett, who had potential but chose not to really do anything until the same episode she was kicked off.
Amy would have made a better antagonist of the season, but sadly she chose just to complain to her sister. Let's see her try that with Eva or Jasmine.
Mal isn't a fan favorite, but at least he's strong and deadly. Scarlet would have been a good villain if she lasted longer and stopped hiding the fact that she was evil, but she was very smart. Max is just a wannabe idiot. Scott made his team lose just to eliminate them.
Alejandro is a male Heather, a flirt, and way too overrated. Heather became nicer, but she was kind of boring. Sugar just plain sucks.
-
Lindsay going home first in All-Stars
If you paid attention, Lindsay regretted her decision to come back, so she wanted to eliminate herself. She said, and I quote, "I can't believe I'm saying this, but no lip gloss is worth this!"
Considering Lindsay loves to look physically appealing, that should be a clear sign that she was serious about wanting to leave.
I mean, I know she tried to lose on purpose, but she was still robbed.
-
Duncan cheating on Courtney
Terrible. Duncan felt no remorse for his actions. He should have never returned. Gwuncan was too forced and toxic in All-Stars anyways, so why even bother keeping them together? Quick rant: I find the people who say that Courtney deserved it to be really irritating. Duncan should have done it during his return or even before the season, when he had feelings for Gwen. Plus, Courtney actually wanted him back. And the fact that no one else, not even Bridgette (her only current friend), cared about her getting cheated on is awful. And we say Lindsay's elimination in All-Stars was robbed.
The horrible thing is that Courtney and Duncan made everything more interesting, and Duncan and Gwen's relationship was just there. It just existed and did nothing to the characters besides them kissing. That was it.
When Courtney and Duncan were a thing, Courtney learned to loosen up and become more easygoing. I don't know what the writers did there.
-
Heather winning World Tour but not receiving the prize money
That was a huge slap in the face after all her hard work.
Same for Alejandro and Owen for giving it all up.
-
Having almost no character development
Gwen's development went downhill as soon as Action hit. It started to come back in All Stars. I'm pretty sure Sierra stopped being Cody-crazy, so why is she crazy again? She could have done so much in All Stars.
I don't know what happened to Heather in Action. She became friends with Leshawna and finished in ninth place. Heather, you are way better than that. Thank God she came back in World Tour.
Now, we come to the characters that lost all the development given to them. Mike and Duncan lost it all. You would think Jo learned her lesson.
Characters like Courtney and Dawn, for example.
-
Using gross-out humor
-
Max being a terrible villain
What kind of villain is he supposed to be anyway?
What the heck was he supposed to be?!
-
Courtney being eliminated in Season 5
-
Duncan and Courtney breaking up
Why did the writers go and mess up my favorite couple? I hope they get back together soon.
Again, the writers really should have kept these two together.
Best couple on the show gets ruined. Like really? Why?
-
Gwen and Trent breaking up
I watched this episode on Valentine's Day, which was a big mistake - it was so sad! You spend all of Season 1 loving Gwen and Trent, and finally, they get together, only to break up in what, 4 episodes? Not cool, dudes. Not cool of you to play with our feelings like that!
Trent and Gwen belong together. They were my favorite Season 1 couple, and then they got ruined. I hope they fix this. They really have lame reasons for breaking these couples up.
Gwen left him because he was cheating through the game for her, but she wanted to win fairly.
