Top 10 Best Super Smash Bros. 64 Characters
The very best playable characters from Super Smash Bros., the revolutionary Nintendo 64 game that was released in 1999. This game helped spawn one of the most successful fighting game franchises of all time.
Kirby is a lightweight fighter with strong aerial abilities and the unique power to inhale opponents and copy their neutral special moves. He also has several multi-hit attacks and good recovery options. I'm probably biased because I've been playing Smash Bros. for over 10 years, and 98% of the time I play with Kirby, so I know his moves the best. With that said, I've tried playing with all of the characters, and none seem to compare with his speed and attacks for me. My next favorites would be Link or Samus. Fox is another contender too. Kirby will always be #1, though.

Maybe he doesn't have the most powerful attacks, but he makes up for it with his jumping. Kirby is definitely a character you need to be an absolute expert or a beginner to appreciate, and I consider myself in between. But you should see a friend of mine play with him! It's ownage beyond compare!
Pikachu is a fast and agile fighter with strong electric-based attacks and excellent recovery moves, including Quick Attack. Its Thunder Jolt projectile gives it versatile edge-guarding capabilities. Incredibly fast aerials with decent knockback and combo-ability, specials great for damaging, shield-pressuring, and spacing, and the only safe recovery in the game make Pikachu the best character in Smash 64.
It also is the best character, according to tier lists (which are far more accurate than noobs say so).
Pikachu is way better than Kirby. Kirby is so slow. Pikachu is so quick. He is also way cuter. One time, I chose Pikachu my first time playing, and Kirby was there. Kirby is like Jigglypuff except not as slow. Kirby went flying off the map and died. Pikachu should be first.
Fox is a speedy, combo-focused character with strong mobility and a versatile blaster for long-range attacks. His reflector allows him to counter projectile-based attacks efficiently. Fox should be in the top two strictly because he is the fastest character in the game, and also, his power moves are quick and decisive. I've occasionally knocked people off the screen with about 80% health with those various moves.
Hundreds of games with various people proved that throwing was the only sensible up-close combat option. Fox throws just as well or faster than Pikachu or Kirby, but has considerably better range attacks and defense.
Fox is the fastest, and his reflect attack makes him almost unbeatable if used properly. He can jump extremely high, and his quick attacks make him the best character.
Captain Falcon is known for his high-speed movement and powerful, hard-hitting attacks like the Falcon Punch. He also has strong aerials and a unique grab, the Falcon Dive, for vertical recovery. He's not my favorite character (I'm a major Link fanboy), but he is definitely the all-around best character in the game. He's the fastest character and, if done right, can continually combo without the opponent being able to counter because he is too quick.
His hits are fairly strong, all his smash moves are solid, and every one of his special moves is completely B.A. He also has great striking range (Falcon kick and those long dancer's legs), and he has a pretty decent jump distance. I understand why people think Kirby is the best, but he can and will die at 70%. Falcon will not.
Link is a versatile fighter with a variety of ranged weapons, including bombs, arrows, and a boomerang. His strong, sword-based close-range attacks make him a balanced fighter at different distances. The close-up-with-reach king. If used right, not only can he decimate opponents, he will do it without their consent. In the air, then a smash. Two distinct throwing moves give him flexibility on the edge. Further, spin and up-A attacks give him that instant safety net when surrounded by many foes.
Make sure you always use his extra speed, though, otherwise, he might be a tad too slow.
Link can be the master if you know how to use his main attacks. Though he may have a small jump, he is awesome against everyone except Pikachu. (In my opinion, Pikachu is a little overpowered. Only noobs use him because he doesn't even require skill.)
Now remember this is my opinion. I also like Fox and Samus, but to me, Link will be the best.
Mario is a balanced, all-around fighter with versatile attacks including his fireball projectile and a strong aerial game. His moveset emphasizes simplicity and adaptability to various situations. Are you kidding me! Mario is by far the best. He is the ultimate damage machine and he spam traps you like a beast. He is the best at combos as well if you are really experienced. If you combine his ability to spam and use his overpowered combos, you can keep your foe in one spot the whole game without worrying about him doing any damage back.
He is the ultimate troll and is great for beginners.
Mario is the definition of Super Smash Bros. and more importantly, Nintendo. He is the face of the franchise and has insane smash moves. Not to mention he is an excellent, if not the best, jumper in the game. He should be no. 1.
Ness uses psychic-based attacks with unique projectiles like PK Thunder and PK Fire, and his recovery relies on hitting himself with PK Thunder. His offensive style revolves around zoning and trapping opponents. First, I started with Kirby and Pikachu because they are easy to use and they have great speed. After getting more experienced in the game, my two best are Pikachu and Ness.
Pikachu is always a great match with his dangerous shocking attack. My predator is Ness. He is difficult to use, I know, but if you keep practicing with him, you can change his slowness into speed with the help of his quick recovery and aerial moves. If he hits his enemy with his 'self-projectile' attack, the damage is huge!
Not to mention his mean, but very effective, downward kick he uses to kick his enemies to oblivion.
Jigglypuff is a lightweight, air-based fighter with exceptional aerial mobility and multiple jumps. Its Rest move is a high-risk, high-reward attack that can knock out opponents instantly. Jigglypuff looks weak, but truly she is an awesome and cool fighter like Kirby and Pikachu, if you know how to use her. If you practice a lot with her, she is even more powerful than other strong characters. Just use combos too! Her Rest rocks!
She can beat any other character in seconds because of her kill combo. Jump in the air and Down A. When you land, hit Down B, and any foe (except Donkey Kong, but he is useless anyways) will go flying off the screen.
If you are really good, there are so many combos that you can do that will make anyone who is versing you scream at Jigglypuff. That annoying taunt.
Yoshi is a heavy character with unique mechanics, including a double jump that grants temporary super armor. His Egg Throw and Egg Lay give him unorthodox zoning and mix-up tools. In my opinion, Yoshi is a very underrated character. Like Samus and Link, Yoshi has a slow grab and isn't very fast, but if used correctly, he can be a very frustrating character for your opponent.
Most people know Yoshi's ground pound is a strong attack, but his power hits and egg toss are pretty deadly as well. When below opponents, Yoshi's flutter kick can cause a devastating amount of damage. Speaking of flutter kick, Yoshi's flutter jump can move through just about any attack and goes a fairly long distance, making him a difficult character to knock off the arena.
If you know how to use Yoshi's egg toss well, your opponent, when thrown off the arena, will have a difficult time getting back on because of it. Like any character, if you know how to use his combos correctly, your friends will absolutely hate you when you use Yoshi.
Last but not least, Yoshi's egg shield is the strongest of all the characters. Not necessarily anything special, but it's a nice little bonus. Happy gaming!
Samus is a projectile-based character with ranged attacks like the Charge Shot and missiles, complemented by a strong zoning game. Her recovery is enhanced by her Screw Attack and Bombs. Samus is the best. She can move through the air as if time slows down while throwing a giant laser ball at you.
Unbeatable in the hands of anyone.

Donkey Kong is a heavy character with strong, high-damage attacks, including a powerful grab game. His spinning Kong attack aids in recovery while his Giant Punch serves as a chargeable finisher. Donkey Kong's throw is unstoppable. You cannot counter it. I have even been effective in defeating a player with a hammer.
Super strong, hard to knock off, and not too slow with a decent jump. My character of choice and a well-rounded character.
Luigi is similar to Mario but with slight differences, including a stronger vertical recovery thanks to his Super Jump Punch. He also has unique moves like the Green Missile for horizontal mobility. He can destroy people if you know how to use him. I am speaking from a 64 point of view (since the title of this is Best Super Smash Bros. 64 Characters), but this seems to actually be about Smash Bros. in general. I haven't played any of the newer games, so I can't say how good he is in those.
I don't care if Luigi was a Mario clone. Playing as Luigi was so much fun. His special attacks are so cool, especially his fire jump punch. Luigi rules the world.
Luigi is great for battles. Using the Up B combo will do a ton of damage if used correctly. I also found it enjoyable to use side A to counter my opponent's attack. I keep this statement for both the N64 version and the ones after.
