Top Ten Stoner-rock Bands

The Top Ten Stoner-rock Bands

1 Kyuss Kyuss was an American rock band, formed in Palm Desert, California, in 1987 by Josh Homme, John Garcia, Brant Bjork and Chris Cockrell. After releasing an EP under the name Sons of Kyuss in 1990, the band shortened its name to Kyuss and recruited Nick Oliveri, replacing Cockrell as bassist.

Wondering, why Brant Bjork and the low desert punk band not listed ... :(

also wo fat should be mentioned! - qudo

kyuss... the best...
and about black sabbath, they are gods but they are not a stoner rock band... - Mpafoklaniaris

You have no idea what your talking about. Queens Of The Stone Age is not a Stoner rock band. Kyuss most certainly is. Do the research.

First by a long way in this category, the masters of stoner rock! Followed by sleep..

2 Black Sabbath Black Sabbath were a Heavy Metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, singer John "Ozzy" Osbourne, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. more.

Sabbath is the best at everything they attempt

All of these bands wouldn't be on here if it wasn't for Sabbath!

The name 'Kyuss' wouldn't even be said without Black Sabbath!

They created stoner metal, how are they not number 1

3 Queen of the Stone Age

queens of the stone age are the best... why are they the best? "noone knows"

Every Queens Of The Stone Age song is good. Whether they grow on you or not, Queens of The Stone Age will always be the best! Kyuss, a bit too heavy in sound, Number Two they should be...

Burn the witches who voted for kyuss! They're just not willing to go with the flow. The sky is falling if qotsa isn't #1. Everybody knows you're insane if you don't love this band. They're like medication to me. No one knows just how amazing this band is. I'm sure if they could these guys would do it again.

Even if you don't like this band, its undeniable that they have an incredible amount of talent - SmileyStudios

4 Electric Wizard Electric Wizard are an English doom metal band from Dorset, England. The band formed in 1993 and have recorded eight full length albums, two of which are now considered to be genre landmarks.

How come no one mentioned Electric Wizard? Soundgarden shouldn't even be up there. Soundgarden is grunge/alternative rock, not stoner metal. Neither should blues and Southern rock legends ZZ Top. Stoner metal is about the music, not about the fact that the members use drugs. Electric Wizard, the heaviest band of all time, should at least be mentioned. - mcg182

How come no one mentioned Electric Wizard? Soundgarden shouldn't be there. Soundgarden isn't even stoner metal, it's alternative/grunge. Oh, and ZZ Top. Yeah, blues and Southern rock legends ZZ Top are stoner metal. Right. *sarcasm - mcg182

Listen to "Stone Magnet" on their self-titled album. If you don't think they deserve to be top 3 after that then you're not looking for stoner rock.

Think Kyuss should be 1 and "The Wizard" should be 2

5 Sleep

Where the hell is Sleep?!

So many people putting grunge bands up high in this list... what is the matter with you people? Thank god Kyuss are at the top but Sleep should be 2nd

Should definitely be second on this list.. Kyuss first (of course) sleep second..

Makes me feel alive and drunk. Music is vibrant, cool and cool.

6 Corrosion of Conformity Corrosion of Conformity is an American heavy metal band from Raleigh, North Carolina formed in 1982. For almost the majority of its existence, the band has consisted of guitarist Woody Weatherman, bassist Mike Dean, drummer Reed Mullin and vocalist and rhythm guitarist Pepper Keenan.
7 Clutch Clutch is an American rock band from Frederick, Maryland, originating in Germantown, Maryland. Its four members met while in high school in Germantown and consider themselves a Frederick-based band where they write/rehearse for every album/tour.

It surprises me that most of the bands mentioned here are not stoner, they belong in other genres. This is about bands that have the stoner rock sound, not bands to take drugs to. Clutch over here, is one of the best examples of the sound.

If I have to explain, your already lost

8 Pink Floyd Pink Floyd was an English progressive rock band formed in 1965 in London, England. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. Psychedelic Rock, not Stoner Rock. Stoner Rock usually has heavy metal or doom metal influences, Pink Floyd doesn't have any of that. Hence they're not stoner rock - Joeljohns249

Listening to dark side of the moon start to finish stoned is sensational

Pink Floyd is the best. That's all there is to it.

9 Monster Magnet Monster Magnet is an American rock band. Hailing from Red Bank, New Jersey, the group was founded by Dave Wyndorf, John McBain and Tim Cronin.

Like the person above said Monster Magnet originated the movement in 1991, with the release of Spine Of God. Surprised Hendrix is not mentioned.

If you lived in the west you would say kyuss. If you lived in the northeast in 1989- early 90s you would say monster magnet

Mm circa 1989 #6? Really? I have nothing

They originated the movement... and they're pretty cool.

Josh homme jamming with few pals in the middle of the desert? Yes please, definitely stoner rock theyve had some great records..

Stoner-Rock is: Kyuss, QotSA, Monster Magnet, Ghost Inc., Goatsnake, Electric Wizard, Acid King, Unida, Nebula, Fu Manchu and the Desert Sessions.
NOT Green Day or Tenacoius D, I'm afraid.

If sublime is not on the top of any list with "stoner" in the title then something is wrong

Smoke two joints, ska is their main genre. And all in all they're a really good band to toke to

Should be number 1. - JCHOW

The members include Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals and guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass), Tré Cool (drums) and Jason White (guitar) . Green Day are associated with punk rock, pop punk and alternative more.

They literally named their band after their fascination for marijuana.

Try listening to their song "Longview", you'll find yourself relating to it

Why do you think their name is "Green" Day

The name Green Day says everything, but technicaly their not the most stoner of all, Pink Floyd, led zeppelin and clutch are better in my oppinion
