Top 10 Most Overrated YouTubers
Some YouTubers seem to get all the attention, but do they really deserve it? With millions of subscribers, endless sponsorships, and nonstop media coverage, some creators get hyped up to a level that doesn't match their actual content.
Maybe they rely too much on clickbait, recycle the same tired ideas, or just aren't as funny or talented as their fans claim.
This list is all about those YouTubers who you think get way more credit than they should.

PewDiePie
Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg (born October 24, 1989), known online as PewDiePie, is a Swedish YouTube personality, comedian, and commentator. He gained fame for his Let's Play videos and vlogs and was the most subscribed YouTuber for nearly six years, after which he was surpassed by T-Series. As of March... read more
The first time I saw a PewDiePie video was in the summer of 2011. It was a Black Ops montage. It wasn't really good at all but basic. He started doing his "reaction" videos, and his acting in them is worse than porn stars. He seems like he's scared, but everyone with a brain knows that he does it to make the video seem more interesting. Anyway, he screams like a 5-year-old and finds it his job to curse every 15 seconds, considering that most of his fanbase probably is under 10. If you don't believe me, in my brother's first-grade class, a staggering majority of them watch that crap.
I'm not hating on his success, but the videos are just stupid. I fail to even simply crack a laugh.

Markiplier
Mark Edward Fischbach (born June 28, 1989), known online as Markiplier, is an American YouTube personality. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, began his online career in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is now based in Los Angeles, California. Markiplier is known for his playthroughs of horror and indie games and... read more
Burping, screaming, and cursing - that's his trademark. Worst camera edits in history: he zooms in on his face when he burps, literally every 2 minutes, and he zooms in when he curses... every 4 seconds. His gameplay is terrible. He doesn't play the games, always skipping the main story. He also says that every game is a rip-off of another game. "I saw that tree in another game before. I saw that dark room in game XY. This reminds me of the game..."
YouTube is a weird place. You get 9-12 million views for useless videos like washing a dog, eating a pizza, or even brushing your teeth when you burp and curse enough while screaming. I stopped watching him in 2014-2015 or so, and he still appears on my YouTube front page from time to time. He is so annoying.

Smosh
Smosh is an American sketch comedy YouTube channel created by Ian Andrew Hecox and Daniel Anthony Padilla. Anthony Padilla created a website called smosh.com in 2002 and was later joined by his friend Ian Hecox. The duo became one of the most popular creators on YouTube, and the channel has since expanded... read more
Even though they are nearing 20,000,000 subscribers now, they are pretty bad, with lame ideas. Smosh is the biggest disappointment in YouTube history. They were one of the first successful YouTubers, and their older stuff was very good and includes some of my best YouTube memories.
Unfortunately, now they only attract 12-year-olds with pathetic jokes, and all their videos must have something sexual.
They were funny for a few years, and even their gaming channel was funny for a while. However, in their quest to be a big brand, they lost a lot of what made them entertaining.
Their gaming channel also became too drama-filled with a major lack of quality gaming information. They just yell at Joven and curse at each other now. They don't even attempt a serious, information-driven show anymore. Sad.

MrBeast
Jimmy Donaldson (born May 7, 1998), better known online as MrBeast, is an American YouTuber who is most notable for pioneering a genre of YouTube videos that centers on expensive stunts. He created his YouTube channel in 2012, where he started posting random videos and went viral after his "Counting... read more
Old MrBeast doing random things with the boys was actually peak. Nowadays, he's gone way too corporate. His empire has gone too far. His content has become repetitive.
Ever since MrBeast passed 100 million subs, his content has just become dry. I like the dude a lot, but it's like every other YouTuber. Once they hit their goal, they're just posting random videos that aren't even close to funny or amusing.
MrBeast was a cool guy, but now he just flexes his money and gives it away like nothing matters. But for other people, it does.

SkyDoesMinecraft
Adam Dahlberg, born January 17, 1993, is better known online as Sky Does Everything or NetNobody, and was formerly known as SkyDoesMinecraft. They are an American YouTuber, video game commentator, and former animator who gained prominence for their early Minecraft content.... read more
Here is a funny story. Sky isn't a kid-friendly channel, right? There is constant cussing and swearing, something I certainly wouldn't introduce to my younger siblings. But I see a SkyDoesMinecraft figure in the Walmart aisles with kids' toys. So not only does he have a younger child fanbase, but he also does Minecraft, the most overrated game, I swear. And he insults squids. Now there are people getting mad on the internet because I said that I like actual squids.
People use "butter" as a replacement for gold, which may have been funny if I had just seen that for the first time, but now it is utterly horrid. Maybe I am the only person who didn't like these people in grade school. I always found this person very irritating, and my 12-year-old friends like to talk about YouTubers excessively.

Shane Dawson TV
Shane Lee Yaw (born July 19, 1988), known professionally as Shane Dawson, is an American YouTuber, writer, comedian, actor, director, musician, and media personality. He began creating YouTube videos in 2008 and became one of the first content creators to achieve widespread recognition on the platform.... read more
No talent, got famous with clickbait. Lots of people work hard to gain popularity. Also makes racist jokes, like blackface, and constantly thinks that sex jokes are hilarious. Then he gets famous off of eating horribly unhealthy foods, where they have thumbnails that make you want to puke.
No originality, not funny, no talent.
I love Shane Dawson, and I respect his success. But to be honest, he's just so overrated. He's not THAT funny. I hate it when people say he's "The King Of YouTube." There are so many YouTubers who are ten times funnier, and they hardly get any recognition, and suddenly he's just blown up and anything he does is going to be idolized.

Ray William Johnson
Ray William Johnson is an American actor, comedian, producer, director, writer, singer, and rapper. He is best known for his YouTube channel, Ray William Johnson, and for his web series on that channel, Equals Three.
He is also known for creating comedy music projects such as Fatty Spins and Your... read more
Ray William Johnson is not funny, and most of his jokes are sexual, and he curses a lot. If you watch his videos and take the inappropriate comments and cursing out, you would have a boring video. If the only way to entertain is to do that, then it's probably very easy to do stuff like that.
Yo mama so short, she's Ray William Johnson's stunt double. She's also funnier and more talented. Then again, who isn't?
Once the most subscribed YouTuber ripped off someone who (at the time) had less than 1 million subs. Wow.

JonTron
Jonathan "Jon" Jafari, best known by his internet pseudonym JonTron, is an American comedian, reviewer, and internet personality. From 2012 to 2013, he was also the co-host of Game Grumps. He left the show within a year, and the reasons for his departure generated significant speculation among fans.... read more
I hate to admit it, but I can agree with him being on the list. He has his rare moments, but between the huge wait times between uploads and the overall quality tanking over the years, I can see why he's up here.
Since his last great video, Space Ace, two years ago, JonTron has been morphing into a typical sold-out YouTuber.
God, I hated this guy since I saw him. He is just a crappy AVGN rip-off.

Onision

I'm not sure if he is considered "overrated" because pretty much everybody hates him. He just does stuff for attention and views and starts beef for no reason. His videos are good but not great.
Laughing and making fun of a fan who came to you for help because they were depressed isn't cool. And no, Onision, we do not deserve to die because we eat bacon! MrRepzion is so much better!
He's a very toxic person who seems to like tearing people down and bullying others using YouTube.
-
Tobuscus
Toby Turner (born March 3, 1985), also known by his stage name Tobuscus, is an American Internet personality, actor, and musician. Originally from Niceville, Florida, he is best known for his YouTube videos. As of October 2024, Turner had a total of over 14.5 million subscribers and more than 3.9 billion... read more
Tobuscus is trying to be the dumb character who misunderstands everything to an extreme. The one series where that actually worked was Tobuscus Adventures. He had his "straight man," aka more serious character, to play off of.
These animated shorts had crazy setups that allowed for a lot more humorous payoff, like how Tobuscus goes to Canada just to avoid writing his signature on a phone contract. Or how they get increasingly larger zombie invasions every few weeks. Or how Tobuscus's crazy idea of slashing open a Dr. Pepper truck actually saves the world.
His other videos, especially his gameplay videos, lack these elements, making them completely boring. I would love to see him make more Tobuscus Adventures, but I doubt that will happen.

Dream
Most undeserved thing ever. He was very controversial before hitting 10 million subscribers.
Not only does he make boring videos, but he was also involved in cheating during a speed run, manipulating viewers, bribing fans by selling overpriced products, being racist on Twitter, and fostering the most toxic fan base. He gets more hate than likes!
This channel is horrible! My nephew watches him every day, and all the sounds coming from his room are just irritating grown men shouting.
He also tried to cut up his clothes to make a costume of him, but fortunately, we stopped that from happening.

SMG4
SuperMarioGlitchy4, known as SMG4, was born on May 24, 1999. He is best known for creating machinima videos based on Super Mario 64. SMG4 also incorporates content from games like Minecraft and Garry's Mod into his videos.
I am beginning to have less hatred toward SMG4, but I still consider him to be overrated, both old and new. His fanbase is absolutely horrible.
I bet that one day, this fanbase is going to make the former state of the Sonic fanbase look tame in comparison.
He was never funny, and anime doesn't help either.
Old or new, he's overrated either way.

Nostalgia Critic
Nostalgia Critic is an American web series created, written, edited, directed, and performed by Doug Walker. It debuted on YouTube in 2007 and has since become one of the most recognizable... read more
Why is this clown lower than AVGN? At least AVGN is still entertaining. Meanwhile, this series has been completely ruined since the mid-2010s, with almost nobody in their fanbase even noticing.
Am I the only one who thinks he can be painfully unfunny most of the time?
-
iDubbbzTV
Ian Jomha, better known online as iDubbbz, is an American YouTube personality and comedian best known as the creator of the YouTube channels iDubbbzTV, iDubbbzTV2, and iDubbbzGames, as well as the comedy video series Content Cop, Bad Unboxing, and Kickstarter Crap.... read more
I genuinely don't understand why everyone thinks he's so funny. His humor is crass, obnoxious, and overly negative and mean-spirited. And yet, he's praised as though he's a comedy "god."
Am I missing something here? Last time I checked, people hated that kind of humor. And yet, everyone loves him, even having the insufferable gall to say that he is somehow *underrated*!
He rides off the success of other channels, and it's not even funny! His biggest hit, "Content Cop," is pathetic, and his roasts are painfully dull. I also get the vibe that the YouTube creator community thinks of him as garbage.
-
Real Annoying Orange
Unbelievably annoying. Of course, it's in the name, but there's nothing remotely funny about the show.
It used to be funny in the very beginning. Now it's annoying in a very bad way. To make things worse, they went to Cartoon Network. Bleargh.
The jokes and plot of each video are getting quite old.
-
VanossGaming
Evan Fong is a Canadian internet personality and video game commentator with 24 million subscribers. He is best known under his online pseudonym VanossGaming, where he posts montage-style videos on YouTube. His content primarily features gameplay from games like Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty.
I feel Vanoss deserved to be on here because honestly, his content has gotten dull and repetitive. He always makes the same dull, yet forced and unfunny jokes, especially in his most recent videos. I used to enjoy his videos when he was still making Black Ops II videos, but after he stopped making them, he just became boring and not entertaining to watch. It feels like I am watching the same thing over and over again.
I also think the people he often collaborates with, like IAMWILDCAT, H2O Delirious, Daithi De Nogla, etc., make the same exact content as Vanoss. The only difference is that they do it in their own unique way. Still, it is all just repetitive.

Fred
Fred Figglehorn is a fictional character created and portrayed by American actor Lucas Cruikshank. The character became popular in the early days of YouTube. All this channel has are videos of an early teenage boy who acts immature and edits his voice into a helium effect. How original, stupid, annoying, and obnoxious.
After Fred sold his channel to these kids, I can never watch old Fred videos without thinking of these three new annoying kids.
I used to be a pretty big fan of Fred until a few years ago. I began to realize how obnoxious he really is.

JackSepticEye

His most popular series include Happy Wheels and Five Nights at Freddy's. These projects helped increase his... read more
The only people who could like JackSepticEye are middle schoolers. His content is childish as he replaces interesting content with screams. His content mirrors PewDiePie with a slightly better fan base.
Ok, I see some people saying that the swearing is unnecessary, and he's too loud, but that's JUST WHO HE IS! It's kind of like me saying to someone black, You're too black, take that skin off. That's just how that person is!
It isn't going to change the fact that they will stay the same, and neither will it change Jack! (Praying he stays his happy energetic self.)
-
CaptainSparklez
Absolutely no emotion in his commentary. I used to watch his music videos, but he got copyright struck on all of them, so they suck too. 2/10.
Jumped on the trend train for the 77th time to start milking Minecraft again after PewDiePie started playing it.
Kind of boring and lackluster commentary. Not very entertaining.

It says a lot when iDubbbzTV is higher (or in this case lower) on the list than Jake Paul.
Why does he have so many subs? Who cares about what he's doing? Logan too... too much clickbait. All he does is walk around his house and do stuff, and everyone's obsessed with him. I don't get it. He's not even funny.
Why was he the 35th person you thought of? He should be the first.

iJustine
Justine Ezarik is an American YouTube personality, host, actress, and model. Known online as iJustine, she has amassed over one billion views across her YouTube channels. She initially gained attention as one of the Internet's most prominent lifecasters.
A total waste of time. Apple sheep, it's pretty clear she gets excited for everything lame. She was great, but now it's clickbait.
She has the personality of a brick. I don't understand why she's so popular.
Her videos before were okay. Now, they are just clickbait and unfunny.

To be honest, all she does is show us her makeup, hair, and how much of a social life she has. Maybe it's just my opinion, but I think what she does doesn't require much talent at all. I also feel like she's kind of fake, although nobody seems to agree with me.
People like Emma Blackery and Carrie Fletcher deserve more credit and subscribers than her. They do things like cut/shave their hair for charity (Emma recently shaved it, Carrie is going to cut 7-12 inches off next year), share their opinions on things, make people laugh, and genuinely seem like intelligent human beings.
Also, they've done things like spoken word before, and it helps a lot of people. But what does Zoe do?

I like some of her content, like the relatable TikToks, but she's WAY overrated. The comments on her videos are all "lEt'S aPpReCiAtE eVeRyThING lIa dOeS fOr Us". You people realize this is literally her JOB? She has nothing else to DO all day.
Some YouTubers like Moriah Elizabeth actually WORK HARD to deliver quality content when they post. I doubt it takes Lia more than 4 hours to get her video done, thumbnail and editing included.
Once again, this is literally her job. It probably takes her no more than 4 hours every day to get her video done, and she is way too overrated and appreciated for the content she produces.
I used to love her, and her content isn't trash, but she is kinda overrated. I mean, she has some good content, but it's not the best. She is a good YouTuber, though.

You guys do realize that his whole channel is a satirical mockery of the Internet. It's supposed to be offensive, poking fun at the emotionally fragile children who plague the web. It even says so in the channel description.
Now, I will concede that his fanbase can be atrocious at times and is comprised of edgy pre-teens. However, can you name a channel that doesn't have its fair share of deplorable fans?
He really isn't funny.
He's like that father who's trying to be "hip" with the kids these days, saying: "I can relate." His "comedy" is usually just insults aimed at certain groups of people, which, of course, appeals to his 12- to 13-year-old fanbase. Apparently, "lol guys epic trollz umad bro b0ss" is still funny in 2015.
Also, his fanbase is something to avoid - they're completely obsessed with him. Say anything to criticize him, and you'll be called a "weeaboo," "cancer," "autistic," or something along those lines.
FilthyFrank does not deserve the praise that he gets.
