Hi-NRG (pronounced High Energy) is a form of dance music (disco, EDM, etc) that features upbeat tempos, staccato hi-hat rhythms, a 4 on the floor pattern, plus intense vocals & pulsating octave basslines. It originated between the late 1970s & early 1980s, yet is commonly used with synth pop.

2 Just Can't Get Enough - Depeche Mode

A classic from Depeche Mode that can't be forgotten. Very upbeat & energetic. Very good lyrics as well.

This is the one of the best songs of the 80s. Hi-NRG is not so common.

4 Jump (For My Love) - The Pointer Sisters

A classic from the Pointer Sisters, an ever evolving group. R.I.P. to 2 members including Bonnie Pointer (the co founder) in 2020.

A classic song in the genre & a hit by Miguel Brown.

10 Night Crawling - Miley Cyrus

Perhaps the best song in the Hi-NRG genre released after David Guetta's The World Is Mine. Played by Miley Cyrus, it was her turn on 80's style HI-NRG along with synth pop & it's 1 of her refreshing songs after the years where she messed up. Yet it featured Billy Idol & she & he used the lyrics from his cover of Mony Mony by Tommy James & the Shontells (when they said COME ON) & he used the background from White Wedding. From her refreshing album Plastic Hearts in 2020.
