Hi-NRG (pronounced High Energy) is a form of dance music (disco, EDM, etc) that features upbeat tempos, staccato hi-hat rhythms, a 4 on the floor pattern, plus intense vocals & pulsating octave basslines. It originated between the late 1970s & early 1980s, yet is commonly used with synth pop.The classic from Dead or Alive, which made them one-hit wonders. It's upbeat and has all the elements needed for Hi-NRG. Yet good storyline and lyrics as well. It became a cultural phenomenon in music and pop culture and became an internet meme throughout the years. R.I.P. to the leader of the band, Pete Burns, in 2016.
