Heroes in fiction are great in all but in actuality a hero is nothing without their villains heck without their villains they wouldn't even be heroes in the first place and without a great antagonist great rivalries don't exists so for this list we will be looking at the greatest fictional heroes who for the most part would not be heroes at all if they didn't have their villains.

He is the most iconic character in video game history and is Nintendo's unofficial mascot. His franchise has grown to be the most successful video game franchise of all time. If Mario didn't have Bowser to kidnap Princess Peach all the time he would probably still be stuck in his day job as a plumber instead of the hero he is today.
Link refers to several different incarnations of the same protagonist of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series. Link would just be another kid in green tights if he didn't the likes of Ganon to cause trouble in Hyrule.
