Top 10 Most Surprising NFL Teams of Week 3 (2022)

The Top Ten
1 Indianapolis Colts The Indianapolis Colts are an American football team based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Colts compete in the National Football League as a member club of the American Football Conference South division.

The Colts pulled off the biggest upset of the season to this point. You'd be crazy to think they'd win, considering they looked horrible against Houston and Jacksonville. They did just enough to win the game, though.

I'd say it was more of Kansas City getting in their own way than anything, because Indianapolis didn't look that impressive. But they didn't make mistakes and capitalized when the Chiefs made mistakes, and that's what won the game.

2 Kansas City Chiefs The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's American Football Conference West division.

I could've told you this was a trap game. Indianapolis has historically been this team's kryptonite. This is what happens when you overlook your opponent, who you should crush on paper.

Where to start? How about muffing a punt to open the game? 7-0 Indianapolis right out of the gates. Matt Amendola missed an extra point and a field goal. There was the laughable fake field goal. Eric Bieniemy not letting Mahomes go for it before halftime was very uncharacteristic for the Chiefs.

I had a feeling this offense would have one of these games early in the season. The real dagger here was Chris Jones. On a critical 3rd down, we stopped them, so Indianapolis would've punted, but he had to say something. Whatever it was, it was enough for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. I don't care if it was a soft call. He's a veteran who should know better than that.

That penalty single-handedly gave the Colts momentum and cost us the game, but to be honest, we absolutely deserved to lose that game.

3 Miami Dolphins The Miami Dolphins are a professional American football franchise located in the Miami metropolitan area.

All hail Miami, the new leaders of the East. Feels weird to say. The Dolphins did just enough to win the game, even though Tua was clearly suffering a concussion and shouldn't have been playing in the second half of the game.

The defense held when it had to, and even with the Butt Punt, the Dolphins got the last laugh. This is a huge win for the Dolphins, who quite literally got saved by the buzzer. In different circumstances, the Bills win this game, which is why they'll be ready for the return game in Buffalo. But for now, the Dolphins reign supreme in the East. You would've been called crazy a few weeks ago, but here we are.

4 Jacksonville Jaguars The Jacksonville Jaguars are an American professional football franchise based in Jacksonville, Florida.

Is Jacksonville quietly good? Seriously, how in the hell did they win, and in dominating fashion no less? They even did it on the road, where they had lost 18 consecutive road games prior to this game. I get Justin Herbert was injured, but the Jags had their way with the Chargers.

What a time to be alive when Doug Peterson tied Urban Meyer for 5th most wins in Jaguars history and the Jaguars were at the top of the AFC South. It honestly only paints Urban Meyer's tenure in a worse light than it already was.

5 Buffalo Bills The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area that competes in the National Football League. Buffalo Bills had the longest playoff drought of any team which came to an end in 2017.

Buffalo meets their greatest challenger in the AFC East for a showdown in South Florida. They are without several key defenders, but this was a defensive battle. Most of the time, the offenses couldn't do much.

The Bills were facing a concussed Tua in the second half of the game, who honestly shouldn't have played at all. Buffalo then got a lucky break thanks to the glorious "Butt Punt" and had the ball back with time to spare. Unfortunately, the Bills tried to do too much, and it ended up costing them the game.

Gotta get out of bounds or use a timeout in those situations. It's a loss that stings in the moment, but under different circumstances, the Bills probably win. Also, Ken Dorsey should probably take a chill pill after that tantrum he threw after the game.

6 Dallas Cowboys The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's National Football Conference East division.
7 Carolina Panthers The Carolina Panthers are a professional American football team based in Charlotte, North Carolina, that competes in the National Football League.

Well, Carolina, you can thank your defense for canning the Saints' offense and gifting you a win. The offense wasn't that impressive, but Matt Rhule gets bailed out by the defense to give him a sliver of breathing room. Credit to the defense. If only the offense could show up, but I think that's mostly on Matt Rhule. Take this win and run, Panthers, that's all I can say.

8 Los Angeles Chargers The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional American football team based in Los Angeles. The Chargers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's American Football Conference West division.

Chargers, please explain to me how I'm supposed to take you seriously when you get humiliated by Jacksonville? I get Justin Herbert is dealing with injuries, and the only reason he's playing is the Chargers know he's their only hope to win games.

Meanwhile, the team itself has injuries all around, but their opponent is Jacksonville! They should not be winning and should certainly not be blowing you out of the water in every aspect of the game. If you're trying to make a statement, this isn't how you do it.

9 New Orleans Saints The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints currently compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's National Football Conference South division.

New Orleans, what happened here? They had some injuries but didn't get anything going until the 4th quarter, which usually isn't a good sign. And this is Carolina we're talking about here. They aren't horrible on defense, but still, that doesn't excuse the fact the Saints' offense was missing in action for 3 quarters. These are the games you cannot afford to lose deep into the season. This one will haunt you.

10 San Francisco 49ers The San Francisco 49ers are a professional American football team located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

San Francisco, where did your offense go? I mean, only scoring 10 points is kinda embarrassing in and of itself. This game was a lot of things. Entertaining is not one of them. There's no amount of money you could pay me to rewatch this game.

Jimmy Garoppolo reminded us why the Niners wanted him gone to begin with, and then he had a Dan Orlovsky moment, stepping out of the back of the end zone for a safety. As bad as that was, it prevented what would've been a pick-six. Weren't you guys supposed to be a Super Bowl contender?

The Contenders
11 Arizona Cardinals The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football franchise based in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

To be fair, I didn't expect Arizona to win this game, but the Rams have dominated the Cardinals recently, and the Cardinals just looked flat. This is what happens when your offense involves hoping Kyler Murray can bail you out.

LA's offense wasn't even that impressive. I just expected more of a fight from Arizona. Instead, they just kinda threw up their hands and said, Oh well. Rams basically got a free win by not even trying. Kliff Kingsbury's seat should be scorching by now. If you're a Cardinals fan, you should be alarmed by this.
