Greek Gods that are Believed to Be Eros' Father

Eros is a minor god in Greek mythology. His Roman counterpart is Cupid. In the Roman myths, Cupid marries Psyche. His mother is Aphrodite, the goddess of love & beauty. Nobody disputes that. But, who his father is, is greatly disputed.

The Top Ten
1 Zeus

Zeus had numerous affairs with both mortal & immortal women, much to the chagrin of his wife, Hera. He also had numerous children with both mortal & immortal women, alike. Among his mistresses, was Aphrodite. In some myths, Eros is his son.

2 Ares

Ares was one of Aphrodite's main lovers (no doubt, due to ancient Greeks noticing a huge relationship between fighting & mating), & because of this, he is one of the main contenders to be Eros' father.

3 Hephaestus

Hephaestus was Aphrodite's husband. However, their marriage was as tumultuous as that as Zeus & Hera's marriage, only in this case, it was the wife (Aphrodite) who was the unfaithful one. Just as Zeus had many children with many of his lovers, so too, Aphrodite had many children with hers. However, in a few cases, Hephaestus is considered the father of Eros (possibly the only child she had with him).

4 Hermes

Hermes was another one of Aphrodite's lovers, and in some myths, he is the father of Eros.

5 Chaos

Chaos is sometimes believed to be Eros' father too. However, usually when he is called the father of Eros, its believed that Eros is one of the earlier deities, thereby making him older than Aphrodite.

6 Adonis

Actually, there are not that many myths that claim they are lovers, but, Aphrodite really loved him, so why not?

8 Poseidon
