Top 10 Best Nintendo Console Applications

The best applications on a Nintendo console are available through download from the shop or are pre-installed upon purchase of the console.
The Top Ten
1 Flipnote Studio 3D (3DS)

God, I just love Flipnote Studio 3DS. It takes everything that the original had and expands on it. You can now add more colors to your Flipnotes, create a 3D effect, and more. If I recall correctly, you can even transfer your DSi Flipnotes to your 3DS. Unfortunately, it's a bit harder to get Flipnote Studio 3D, but it's possible. SplashyTrash280 made a good video on how to get it in 2019 if you'd like to download it, but it requires a My Nintendo account. I really don't have a clue how to use the 3D effect, though. 10/10

2 Photos Channel (Wii)

My personal favorite photo app on a Nintendo console is the Photos Channel. You can do practically anything in Photos Channel! You can edit your photos, change the mood, and even play a puzzle. There's some pretty nice music as well.

Did I mention you can catch a cat that will give you tips on the Photos Channel? Of course, you can play a slideshow of your images and change the music. And, of course, there's the nostalgia option. This is the most feature-packed photo-holding software I can think of. 8.5/10

3 Flipnote Studio (DSi)

Now on to the original. I really love Flipnote Studio. It's one of my favorite things on the DSi. It's really easy to use and is good for first-time animators. You can copy and paste things, add music and sound effects in the background, and even set the speed of how fast the flipnote plays.

The only downside I have with Flipnote Studio is that there are only about four colors to choose from: red, white (only good for a black screen), black (only good for white screens), and blue. I know you can make purple, but it's difficult to do so and it's not part of the palette.

There was Flipnote Hatena, where you could upload your own flipnotes and view other people's flipnotes. It seemed like it was fun at the time, and it's a shame Nintendo got rid of it. However, there's Sudomemo, a replacement for it. Overall, Flipnote Studio is an easy-to-use animating program with a solid amount of content packed into it. There should have been more colors, though. 9/10

4 PictoChat (DS & DSi)

This is basically a chatroom on the DS and DSi. You can send drawings and text messages to your friends (shame I don't have any). You can choose from one of four chat rooms to enter. You can also change the colors of the text and add emotes if you'd like. I think Pictochat is pretty good. I like the Smash Bros. stage as well. Again, I don't have much to add here. 7/10

5 Mii Channel (Wii)

I'm sure most of you will remember this one. Do you know what Miis are? Well, for the two people who don't know, Miis are customizable avatars on Nintendo consoles.

On this Wii channel, you can make Miis of whatever you want. A video game character? Bam. Yourself? Bam. A cartoon character? Bam. A creepy abomination that should not have been made and needs to be deleted immediately? BAM. You can go to the Mii Parade to see Miis walk across a location similar to the Mii Plaza together. (WARNING: SENDING A MII TO A PARADE WILL ERASE ALL OF ITS DATA, SUCH AS ITS BIRTHDAY).

That's the one thing I don't like about the Mii Channel. Anyway, I like the music and the fact that you can use your Miis in games such as Mario Kart Wii and Wii Sports. I give it an 8/10.

6 Nintendo Switch Online (Switch)
7 Nintendo DSi Camera (DSi)

Although this isn't as packed as the Wii Photo Channel, this one is still pretty nice. The editing you can do is the best thing about the Nintendo DSi Camera, in my opinion. You can make the most hilarious edits by distorting a picture. Just take a picture of something smiling and make it frown. Then put it into the slideshow with the Memories music playing (I LOVE the music, by the way), and you are guaranteed to laugh.

You can also add a mirror effect, add graffiti, change the color of the image, give yourself a mustache, and lots more. Apparently, my sister and I are 0% related according to my DSi. This thing is just hilariously inaccurate. Despite that, the Nintendo DSi Camera is pretty great in my opinion. 8/10.

8 Nintendo 3DS Sound (3DS)

It's much better than the DSi version. You can edit the music you're playing with better options than the DSi version had, in my opinion, such as 8-bit. You can change what happens in the background. There are many options, such as a Game & Watch game, which you can even control with the circle pad!

You can edit the speed and pitch, and you can even play drums in the background of the song you are playing. You can even edit that as well! What's that? Spotify is better? Pfft, Spotify is overrated. I use Nintendo 3DS Sound because I'm cool. 7.5/10

9 AR Games (3DS)
10 DS Download Play (3DS, DS, and DSi)

This is just for playing local multiplayer. I like how Nintendo lets us play games together. I remember playing Mario Kart DS with my sister in the backseat when I was younger.

The only problem I have with this is that when you're trying to play some games like Mario Kart DS with a friend, it limits some things. For example, in Mario Kart DS, the person who doesn't own the game can only play in the default kart, and they can only be Shy Guy. I guess they're trying to get them to buy the game, but it's really annoying in my opinion.

There's not much to add here. It's just for playing with others locally. 7.5/10

The Contenders
11 Face Raiders (3DS)

This is one of the weirdest games I have ever played in my life. You can take a picture of yourself to fight... yourself? Okay then, whatever. The game is pretty fun, but the final boss is just plain impossible. The final boss is fun but hard.

The music is okay, I guess, and it's a pretty unique, though bizarre, concept. The gameplay is easy to get used to, but the motion controls aren't really fun, in my opinion. I just feel frustrated when I have to move while I'm sitting on the couch. Despite that, I'd rate Face Raiders a 6.5/10.

12 StreetPass Mii Plaza (3DS)

Oh yeah, this one. I like Puzzle Swap, but Find Mii isn't exactly my favorite. I would have liked Find Mii more if it had some actual RPG elements in it.

I appreciate Nintendo's efforts to make players more active by encouraging them to walk around so they can earn more play coins for Puzzle Swap or Find Mii. The music is okay, I guess, but it kind of gets annoying after a while. Apparently, there was DLC for this, but I'm not going to buy it. Because what's the point? Who would buy DLC for software that no one cares about?

The graphics are good, and the Lonk meme originated from this. I'd give Streetpass Mii Plaza a 5.5/10.
