Stephen Hillenburg worked as a fry cook and a lobster boiler in a fast-food restaurant before conceiving the idea for the Krusty Krab. He also came up with the idea to make Mr. Krabs a greedy owner/manager. Stephen Hillenburg originally named it "Crusty Crab", but he thought using K's in the name of the restaurant was funnier, so that's how the name of the Krusty Krab came about, shaping the restaurant as a whole. SpongeBob's job as a fry cook was also inspired by Stephen Hillenburg's former job as a fry cook.
