1 The Krusty Krab used to be a retirement home

That's right. Before the Krusty Krab was officially a restaurant, it was a retirement home. Mr. Krabs eventually bought it and converted it into the Krusty Krab. Initially, it was called the Rusty Krab when it functioned as a retirement home, before Mr. Krabs bought it.

2 The price of the Krabby Patty always changes

The common price of the Krabby Patty is $1.25 ($1.25 with cheese), but the price has changed several times. For example, it has been $0.99 and $2.99 on Wednesday. With cheese, it's either $3.99 or $1.99. For employees, it seems to cost 25 cents. The Triple Krabby Meal is the most expensive on The Galley Grub, costing about $4.00. However, the prices have been changing throughout the show.

3 The Krusty Krab’s design is based on a lobster trap

Although Mr. Krabs, the owner of The Krusty Krab, is a crab, the restaurant's design is actually based on a lobster trap, which is kind of ironic.

4 The Krusty Krab has been renovated and turned into different things multiple times

It has been portrayed as a hotel, a pirate ship, and a fitness center/gym. However, it would always eventually turn back into a restaurant again.

The creator of SpongeBob SquarePants, Stephen Hillenburg, seems to be the only person who knows the secret formula, besides SpongeBob SquarePants and Mr. Krabs, of course. Since he passed away in 2018, we will never actually know the secret formula. All we know are the main ingredients such as pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, cheese, and sea onions. The patty itself, which doesn't contain meat, and a secret sauce have unknown ingredients. He mentioned that he never wanted to reveal it anyway.

9 A Krusty Krab existed in real life

Despite the actual restaurant being fictional, there is an actual restaurant based on the Krusty Krab located in Ramallah, Palestine. It was established in 2014 but unfortunately shut down in 2019. Even the interior was designed based on the actual Krusty Krab.

10 The Krusty Krab was inspired by Stephen Hillenburg’s experience of working in a fast food restaurant

Stephen Hillenburg worked as a fry cook and a lobster boiler in a fast-food restaurant before conceiving the idea for the Krusty Krab. He also came up with the idea to make Mr. Krabs a greedy owner/manager. Stephen Hillenburg originally named it "Crusty Crab," but he thought using K's in the name of the restaurant was funnier. That's how the name of the Krusty Krab came about, shaping the restaurant as a whole. SpongeBob's job as a fry cook was also inspired by Stephen Hillenburg's former job.
