Top 10 Best Super Mario Enemies

Bowser
Bowser is the main antagonist of the Mario Bros. franchise. From kidnapping Princess Peach to disrupting games in the Mario Party spinoff series, this king of the Koopas has become a recurring enemy in the series. He first appeared in the 1985 video game Super Mario Bros., in which he kidnapped Princess... read more
Bowser is a very well-written, powerful, and almighty character. He is the ruler of the Koopa Kingdom, controls the armies, captures Peach, and is always the main antagonist of Mario games. This guy is a pretty big deal.
Listen up, everybody: Bowser is the greatest character of ALL TIME! He breathes fire, he's powerful, and he's all-around epic! Bowser is 9 million times better than Mario! No, wait, a kazillion times better!
If you don't think Bowser is more powerful than Mario, you'd better go see a doctor immediately.
-
Dry Bones
Dry Bones is a recurring enemy species in the Super Mario series of video games, first appearing in Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988). He made his debut as a playable character in Mario Superstar Baseball (2005).
Since then, Dry Bones has become a fan favorite and appeared as a playable character in... read more
My favorite character in all of the Mario Kart games and my favorite sprite in the main games. Lakitu makes a close second, though.
Such a simple but clever idea Dry Bones was! If you don't love him, you have absolutely no life.
I really don't know why, but I love Dry Bones.
-
Goomba
Goombas, known in Japan as KuribÅ, are a species of sentient mushroom-like creatures in Nintendo's Mario franchise. They first appeared in the game Super Mario Bros. released in 1985. Goombas are one of the most common enemies in the series and are usually defeated by being jumped on.
Ah, a classic. Truly the greatest. These enemies will never give up trying to take out Mario, knowing full well that they can be beaten by a stomp. These fellas are epic.
Goombas are my favorite Mario enemies. Doesn't Bowser ever give Goombas some credit? How hard do you think Goombas work in order to stop Mario? Well, they've been around since 1985, so they've got to be considered awesome Mario enemies. Goombas rule!
They are the brave, unspoken soldiers that face the beast that can defeat their King.
And they look cool.
-
Hammer Bros.
The Hammer Bro is a recurring enemy in the Mario video game series. It is a type of Koopa that walks upright and attacks by throwing hammers at the player. First appearing in Super Mario Bros. in 1985, the character has become one of the franchise's most recognizable enemies.
I actually hate Hammer Bros. They throw hammers, and anytime I play Mario Maker, I always die at least once to these guys. Trying to do parkour while they throw hammers is true hell.
Unlike most enemies, you have to be scared when you see a Hammer Bro., Fire Bro., or Ice Bro. I would pick Bowser, but I classify him as a boss, not an enemy.
They're hard in the 2D games. The best ones are the giant Hammer Bros. that throw hammers twice as big as the normal Hammer Bros. do.
-
Koopa Troopa
Koopa Troopas, or simply Koopas, known in Japan as Nokonoko, are a fictional race of turtle-like creatures from the Mario series and its sister Yoshi series. They most often appear as common ground enemies. Over time, Koopa Troopas have become one of the most recognizable and recurring enemy types in... read more
He's my favorite Mario enemy. He's cool, cute, and awesome - tied with Hammer Bro, Kamek, Lakitu, Dry Bones, and Paratroopa. He should be number one. I wish there were more Super Koopa games, not just A Koopa's Revenge.
This guy, aside from being cute, tends to take Mario's side whenever he can. I mean, once he's stomped on, he's a killer weapon.
It's interesting how many versions have been made of him, and the only one better than him is Dry Bones!
-
Chain Chomp
Chain Chomps, known as Wanwan in Japan, are metal, barking ball-and-chain-like creatures that are restrained by chains and are a main enemy in the Mario franchise. They first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 and have since become a recurring enemy in various Mario games. Their design was inspired by... read more
Here's a little history. Chain Chomps are inspired by a childhood memory of Shigeru Miyamoto. He saw a dog that tried to attack him, but it was chained up. Look at these giant guys. BARK! BARK!
Ruff ruff! Ruff ruff! See? He's not annoying, but he does make dog sounds.
I don't know why, but I really like Chain Chomps.
-
Boo
All these enemies look cartoony and fun, but nothing compares to the Boo, the cutest Mario character by far. I also like how Boos behave, only coming towards Mario when he's facing away from them and covering their faces when Mario turns toward them. Adorable!
I like Magikoopas and Hammer Bros. too, but the Boos are probably my favorite. I loved Luigi's Mansion, and I've heard that four GameCube titles are coming to the Nintendo Switch Virtual Console. These titles are: Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Animal Crossing.
-
Bowser Jr.
Bowser Jr., sometimes simply called Jr., is a video game character in Nintendo's Mario franchise. He is depicted as the son of Bowser, the primary antagonist of the series. Bowser Jr. first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine in 2002 and has since become a recurring character in both mainline and spin-off... read more
He may look cute, but he's smarter than his father. Make fun of Bowser Jr., and he'll build a machine to smash your face in.
He is a pretty good semi-villain and helps Bowser steal Peach every time.

Wiggler
Wigglers are a species of caterpillar in the Mario franchise. They have segmented bodies and comically large noses. Typically yellow and slow-moving when calm, they become red and charge aggressively when provoked, such as when jumped on by the player.
He gets mad when you stomp on him. I mean, wouldn't you be pissed if someone stepped on you?
I love Wiggler. They are so cute and have a fun gimmick.

Conkdor
They're just hilarious idiots!

Piranha Plant
The Piranha Plant, known as the Pakkun Flower in Japan, is a recurring enemy species in the Mario franchise. It usually appears as a green stalk topped with a red or green globe that is white-spotted and features a mouth lined with sharp teeth. The Piranha Plant has been featured in numerous Mario games... read more
This is the only Mario classic that lives in a pipe. In the 3D Mario games, they are pink and jump at you from a swamp of poison. These enemies are impossible to defeat in 2D Mario games. Instead of being killed when you jump on them, they take a life away. However, if you have a mushroom, you turn into small Mario. This is a very, VERY good classic.
They are so funny, and I love them so much. I have a mural on my wall and a stuffed plant from San Jose, California.
The fact that this mook got into Smash Ultimate before Waluigi makes him even more memorable.
-
Shy Guy
Shy Guys are recurring enemies in the Mario and Yoshi video game series. They are known for wearing masks, which they use to hide their faces due to their shyness. These characters have appeared in various games, often acting in different roles such as enemies, racers, and sports players.
Shy Guy is the masked man of Mario. He is not the most classic of the enemies, but he is definitely the most loyal to Bowser. In the more recent Paper Mario game, they take color from stars and the town in general, therefore, he works for Bowser. He is an amazing enemy!
Yeah, toast. That's my favorite quote from the SMG4 series. He loves toast so much, and his face even moves in Mario Strikers Charged Football.
They are shy and mysterious. You never know what kind of thoughts they may have. Plus, they are adorable.
-
Lakitu
Lakitu, known in Japan as Jugem, is a fictional flying character in the Mario franchise. Created by Shigeru Miyamoto, it first appeared in the Nintendo Entertainment System game Super Mario Bros., where it throws Spinies from its cloud vehicle to challenge players. Since then, Lakitu has appeared in... read more
Look at that face. Who could say no to him?
A Koopa in a cloud - what's not to love?
-
Koopa Paratroopa
He's cooler than Koopa Troopa because he has a red shell, shoes, and wings. Yes, he's a clone of Koopa, but they team up in Mario Power Tennis and Mario Kart: Double Dash.
-
Dry Bowser
Dry Bowser is the skeletal version of Bowser, the main antagonist of the Mario franchise. He first appeared in New Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo DS, after Bowser was dropped into lava and re-emerged as a skeleton.

He shoots blue fire, is fire-resistant, and is basically immortal. Why not?
Spooky, scary skeletons that send shivers down your spine, but it's Bowser.
-
Bob-omb
Bob-ombs are a species found throughout the Mario series. They are small, bomb-shaped beings that can detonate themselves or be triggered by others to explode. Bob-ombs made their first appearance in Super Mario Bros. 2 and have since become recurring characters in many Mario games.
BOOM! That's right. These high explosives can blow up right in Mario's face. However, not all of the Bob-ombs are bad. There are Bob-omb Buddies, which are friendly Bob-ombs.
Brave soldiers, sacrificing themselves in the name of King Bowser Koopa. We salute you.
If you ever played New Super Mario Bros. Wii and saved Peach 10 times, try putting a lot of Bob-ombs there because if you make them explode, the game will be loud.
-
Ludwig von Koopa
Ludwig Von Koopa is a villain in the Super Mario franchise. He is the self-proclaimed leader of the Koopalings and is known for his pompous and arrogant personality. Voting for him because he was sort of an enemy at one point.
He totally cheated to get here.
-
Blooper
Bloopers, often referred to as Bloobers until the release of Paper Mario, are squid-like creatures found in the ocean. The name Blooper had been used before that game, but the alternate term was still common.
These characters made their first appearance in Super Mario Bros. and have been recurring... read more
Blooper needs a brother: Boo! Blooper is a squid (squids are awesome). Blooper is white, just like Boo. And Blooper can fly, just like Boo. See what I mean?

-
Petey Piranha
Petey Piranha is a large mutant version of the Piranha Plant in the Super Mario franchise. He first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine and has since become a recurring boss character in the series. Petey has also featured in various sports and spin-off games.
He is the strongest of the Piranha Plants, and he survived the Wiggler genocide with all the other Piranha Plants.
He should be much higher on this list.
-
Thwomp
This enemy is better than Whomp. If Thwomps and Whomps were in a death battle, the Thwomps would probably win. All the Whomps do is walk and land on their faces, while Thwomps can smash right into the ground. Hey, Screw Attack! Please have a Thwomp and a Whomp fight each other in Death Battle.
These guys are actually kinda terrifying. Not only because of that facial expression but also because of how their big, spiky bodies are ready to crush you down into a hole-y pancake. Jeez.

Boomerang Bros.

Wendy O. Koopa is a female villain in the Super Mario Bros. franchise. She is the only female member of the Koopalings and typically works alongside Bowser in his schemes.
