Most Underrated Disney Movies

The Top TenXW

1The Great Mouse Detective

This was one of my favourite Disney films growing up and it irritates me when people assume it is automatically bad just because it was made during Disney's "dark age." Does that mean they would hate the Lion King if it was made during that same era?

This list has become "every movie Disney ever made that's not Frozen". Some of the newer entries deserved their lack of attention. I get that people are tired of "Frozen", but that doesn't mean every single other movie is "underrated".

Most people have never even heard of this movie, which is a shame because this is my favorite Disney movie of all time! (Excluding pixar)
This doesn't deserve to be underrated!
It's definitely the most unpredictable Disney movie, and it has the best villain - 17nobrien

Well, it does have Vincent Price in one of his last roles

2The Hunchback of Notre Dame

This movie has the best music, best villain, best villain song, best "I Want" song, and the most powerful themes of the entire Disney animated canon... Dark and complex, but hilarious, entertaining, and touching at the same time.

I LOVE this movie! Why do people say it's overrated? I don't remember seeing billions of toys and products for this movie. I mean, sure, there were SOME items made for this movie, but it was NOTHING compared to the Frozen hype. - BeanBag343

Yes, this movie is extremely underrated, but I love it! It's a little dark, but it has great music! - RockFashionista

The songs are amazing

3Oliver & Company

So underrated. It is a lot better than that overrated High School Musical.

It's actually really good. It's my second favorite Disney movie and you should check it out! Why Should You Worry? - LpsDisneyTmntFreak

4The Sword in the Stone

This movie is amazing. Enough said. - RockFashionista

Oooo...I had completely forgotten about this one. It should be in the top 5. Merlin is an awesome character, and the imagination put into this film is superb. - Knucklewood

5Treasure Planet

This movie represents the struggle of not knowing where and what you want to be in life, which is something I think we all go through. When I watched it as a child I thought 'eh it was an okay movie', but as I grew older I rewatched the film a few times and only then was I able to get the real meaning of the film. I was and still am distraught at what my future looks like right now, but Jim and Silver have both taught me that maybe it's okay not to know all the answers. Maybe you just have to follow what you love. Take life by the horns and pursue what you want to pursue, not what anyone else says. So yeah, to me this film is the most underrated movie of all time and it might even be the best Disney movie of all time.

Amazing characters, visuals, atmosphere, and plot

This movie is amazing and deserves better recognition.

Love this movie so much!

6Brother Bear

Why is brother Bear this low? I love this movie! My brothers and I used to watch this movie all the time when we couldn't agree on what to watch. this movie makes my laugh and cry, it is definitely in my top five Disney movies of all time! I am an Alaskan and love how accurate the natives and scenery is. I most of all like the relationship between the three brothers, the love and annoyance, the fighting, and the protection. Have brothers myself, the accurately describes how I act with them. This movie should be number one on the list.

My favorite Disney movie of all time. I love the beautiful animation, really likeable characters, and most importantly the messages of brotherhood and perspective. Plus, the setting rolls it all into a five-star package; it's the only Disney movie that takes place in Canada (a lot of people say it takes place in Alaska but I say it takes place in Canada because the moose have Canadian accents and the transformation song is in the Inuit language) and as someone of Canadian decent, that speaks to me. Such a fantastic movie; the people who refuse to watch this movie cause of the critics have no idea what they're missing out on!

It has one of the worst ratings out of all the Disney films which is an absolute crime. As far as underrated Disney movies go, this should be number one. - BKAllmighty

7The Rescuers Down Under

It may not be good as the original 1977 film, but it's a best underrated movie.

8Robin Hood

Okay. This movie is the very definition of underrated. Critics HATE it, because it recycled scenes from other Disney movies, and had the lowest ever budget for any Disney movie(1.5 million), but guess what, critics? NO ONE CARES! Robin Hood was hated by critics, but audiences love it. The caricters are some of the best of Disney, and are very likable (and did I mention that Rob's kind of hot) In short, Robin Hood is definitely the most underrated Disney movie

Come on! Robin Hood was a great movie with loveable characters (specially Little John), great songs, great scenes and great villain, Prince John is a very underrated villain!

This does not deserver to be so low on the list. It should be above the actually very overrated "Hunchback of Notre Dame".

Another forgotten classic that deserves more love. - BeanBag343

9The Aristocats

My favorite movie of all time! People don't take into consideration the fact that this was the first Disney movie produced without Walt Disney. The songs are great, the characters are great, the voice actors are great, and most of all, the plot is great! I still hum "Everybody Wants to be a Cat". - BeanBag343

This used to be my favorite movie and I still love it. I cannot believe that most people don't like it - JaneMoffat

I absolutely adore this movie. It is so underrated you have no Idea. - Scaranna

Why people don't like it I don't no!

10The Black Cauldron

This movie is incredibly underrated. It's a bit on the darker side, but it's a very good movie with memorable characters for anyone who watches it. I really want Disney to pick this movie back up and give it the amazing animation it deserves.

I've never seen this movie. But I heard it didn't do too good at the box office, and from what I saw it looked BEAUTIFUL! I have to see this!

This movie was AMAZING people say it is bad and I say NO it is amazing

The Contenders

11The Fox and the Hound

Simple storyline with brilliant characters and emotion. I know many people don't notice this Disney film but it's one of my personal favorites and I really connect to it on an emotional level

12Atlantis: The Lost Empire

This movie had one of the best visual art styles I've ever seen in any 2d animated film. Not to mention that it is very similar to "20,000 leagues under the sea" but with Atlantis as a twist. Pretty amazing!

And nobody can forget the beautiful "Princess Kida" or "Kidagakash". This film, is very similar to some other anime films, which is awesome. Atlantis also had lots of epic action scenes. The people who made this also created a whole civilization, with it's own language, culture, history, and architecture. Very few movies have achieved this, like Lord of the Rings did...

" Atlantis: The Lost Empire" is also the first science - fiction and fantasy Disney film. And one of the few animated Disney films to be rated PG.

This movie is one of my favorites from Disney.

13The Emperor's New Groove

This animation is the most perfect comedy that Disney has done. Even Aladdin, which is extremely fun, can't make us laugh as much as "The Emperor's New Groove" does. Why this animation is so little remembered? - Palmeiras

One of the funniest movies Disney has ever made

Fantastic movie. But I wouldn't call it underrated - Knucklewood

I saw parts of this movie that made me laugh harder then full movies have.

16Hercules

Disney's best villains are the ones that you can't hate. Hades is a hilarious villain, and Meg is sassy and fun.

I really like this movie. It's very funny, has great music, likeable characters and a great villian

Being a Greek Mythology nerd, I hate this movie,so it deserves its underratedness. It is inaccurate and it doesn't even get the name right considering they use his Roman name and his Greek parents. - gamingfoeealzs

Disney movies tend not to stay true to what it was based off of. It was very loosely based off of Greek Mythology. If you have a problem with it not being like mythology then you obviously should never work on movies. - Disneylover

17Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
18Wreck-It Ralph

Needs to be in the top ten. This is one of my favorite Disney movies. And it's a shame to see this movie overshadowed by other movies that don't deserve as much praise as this one. (Frozen, I'm looking at you.) This movie has a great plot, touching parts such as Vanellope getting hate when she didn't need it, great humor, and my favorite part is the cameos. Sonic the Hedgehog, Bowser, a mentioning of Mario, and PacMan. Sadly, this movie just didn't meet others interests as much as a movie that I can only consider "Good" (No offense, but I thought Frozen was good. Nothing higher than that.) This movie I could only find merchandise for while it was in theaters. Basically to sum it all up, this movie deserves more popularity than it has now. I see it almost NOWHERE at Disney World on trips, because a new Frozen ride offers 5 hour wait on the first day.

Why in the name of all that is holy is this movie wasting away in near-obscurity while "Rise of the Guardians", which did far less well at the box office, is so very popular and has oh-so-many loyal and vocal fans you'd think it had been the more popular and profitable animated offering of the 2012 holiday season when it was the other way around?

Shame it's only the people who insist Vanellope and Hiro should be romantically involved are the only reason this movie isn't completely forgotten. After all, what Frozen didn t already take away from Wreck It Ralph as far as records, fans, and such, Big Hero 6 finished the job. And the only presence of Wreck it Ralph in Disney World was replaced with a meet and greet for Hiro and Baymax.

This movie was a HUGE shock. I heard everyone gasp when they found out who the true enemy was. It was a touching story and didn't have an all-perfect protagonist. I also loved how they didn't completely remove Felix from the equation and gave him personality.
