Top 10 Worst Things About the New Toy Story Land

I haven't been to the new Toy Story Land, but I've read many negative reviews about it.

Here's a list of reasons why I think Toy Story Land has some serious issues.
The Top Ten
It's almost entirely shadeless

Toy Story Land was supposed to be a fun place for all, but it has its own issues, and this is the biggest one.

The land is almost entirely shadeless, leaving everyone hot, sweaty, dehydrated, and sunburnt. The worst of it happened when the land first opened, where guests had to wait 4 hours just to step into the land and then entered long lines for the rides. The umbrellas were a rushed attempt to cool down the guests waiting in line to enter the land as well as in the line for the main ride.

The lines for the rides reached hours, with the Slinky Dog Dash line reaching nearly 7 hours, starting from the Chinese Theater half a mile away from the ride. Much of the queue for the ride was entirely shadeless and had very little air conditioning to cool the guests down.

Everyone was burning up after getting into the land and continued to burn up while waiting nearly 7 hours to ride Slinky Dog Dash. The ground was hot, leaving everyone's feet burning and shoes melting. This continued for hours (other than when storms came in and rained on everyone, thankfully providing cooling relief for them and their poor feet).

Since the land and its queues are also exposed to storms, there was a risk of getting hit by lightning. Even to this day, people still wait up to a couple of hours to ride the Slinky Dog. Yet, the ride is only 2 minutes long.

The wait time for Alien Swirling Saucers, a Mad Tea Party-style attraction, was posted at 180 minutes, which is 3 hours. Yet, it's a 2-minute ride. The green army men have to march outside in the shadeless heat, burning up and suffering.

It's basically the next Fyre Festival and TanaCon. The land was a great idea since people wanted to imagine shrinking down to the size of toys, but Disney poorly executed it.

The lines are sometimes long

The lines for the attractions are sometimes long, often so, and even when they're shadeless, people still wait to go on the rides.

The waits were at their longest when they first opened, with Slinky Dog Dash being the longest at 7+ hours, while the Alien Swirling Saucers had lines over 2 hours long. Lines for the attractions today can still be up to 2 or 3 hours for Slinky Dog Dash and 1 hour for Alien Swirling Saucers. The line for the new Toy Story Mania is usually only 30 minutes long, and the Toy Story Mania line is almost entirely indoors, leaving everyone shaded and protected from the sun as well as rain.

Though the rides are all short, Toy Story Mania is the longest ride.

It has a low budget

When Disney thought of the idea of Toy Story Land, they aimed to make it fun and immersive. However, they cut the budget, resulting in a small, rushed, and shadeless land.

What were they thinking? Safety and comfort should always be top priorities when creating lands and rides, but they didn't succeed here, leaving everyone burning and dehydrated. Kids and families shouldn't go through this.

It's small

Disney planned to make the land big, immersive, and fun, but the budget cut meant it ended up small. There isn't much to do or ride, the food is in limited supply, and there's almost no shade.

The Green Army Soldiers burn in the sun

Toy Story Land looks fun for some people and is entertaining when watching the green army soldiers march around and hit the drums. But they're doing it outside in the heat with no shade, and it goes on. They must be severely sunburnt and dehydrated. The green body paint they're wearing all over their clothes and skin must be clogging their sweat pores and giving them severe heat rashes and itchy, irritated skin. Worse, they suffer from heatstroke.

When you think about Disney, you know safety is the top priority. But when you see the green army men, you think of how they do their job and how it must involve being out in the scorching heat and getting too much UV exposure, which increases the rate of skin cancer. So they're most likely going to get skin cancer really soon.

What a way to rethink Disney.

There's limited food at Woody's Lunchbox

People get hungry and go to Woody's Lunchbox to order food, but there's a very limited selection. Many of the foods you like might not be available, so many people suffer. Additionally, the umbrellas and tables are small, causing people to crowd into others' space.

The bathrooms are too short

I saw photos of the bathrooms, which look nice and colorful, fitting with the theme. However, the urinals and toilets are very small, as if geared toward kids 38" tall (the same height requirement for Slinky Dog Dash). Disney needs to make toilets suitable for tweens, teens, and adults too.

The rides are boring

Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania are fun and interesting, but they're boring for the most part and short too, especially considering the long lines to get to them.

When Toy Story Land first opened on June 30th, people waited nearly 7 hours to ride Slinky Dog Dash and over 2 hours to ride Alien Swirling Saucers, and up to 65 minutes to ride Toy Story Mania.

Slinky Dog Dash is a bit fun but may be too scary for those afraid of heights. Toy Story Mania is immersive.

Not to mention, none of the rides are suitable for those prone to vertigo or motion sickness.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge can be seen

Toy Story Land was supposed to be immersive, and it kind of is, but the low budget cuts made it less so. People can even see Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge from there. One person did think of an imaginative idea about it being a Star Wars playset.

None of the rides are suitable for people with health problems

Slinky Dog Dash is a roller coaster, and to ride one, you should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back, or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated. Expectant mothers should not ride.

Alien Swirling Saucers is a ride that spins and whips you, so it's not a good idea for those prone to motion sickness.

Toy Story Mania is another ride that includes uncontrollable spinning, so guests prone to motion sickness should not ride.

If you have any problems like motion sickness, this isn't the place for you.

The Contenders
There are only three attractions

The only attractions there are Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania. People want more to be satisfied.

This might seem positive considering the long and nearly deadly lines that formed when the land opened.

It's too crowded

Toy Story Land is neat, but one of the biggest issues is that it's often crowded, with rides having wait times up to 1 or 2 hours at most.

When it first opened, it was so extremely crowded that guests waited 4 hours to enter the land, 2+ hours to ride Alien Swirling Saucers, and 7+ hours to ride Slinky Dog Dash.

The lines are an even worse experience when out in the shadeless heat. The hype was out of control when it opened, and it's still hyped even though it's nearly shadeless.

You can't roll the giant Luxo Ball

When people visit Toy Story Land, many want to touch and push the Luxo ball. However, you can't actually roll it.

I understand that Disney wants to keep the ball in one place, but many people think they would have fun rolling it. At least Disney could have built a fence around the area to keep the ball from rolling outside.

It's too hot there

You may have experienced heat before, but have you been to Toy Story Land? I read that people there are sweating like crazy and must be severely dehydrated. This also affects the character actors and army men. People are getting sunburned, and some even suffer from heat exhaustion and pass out, which happened to many on opening day. This seems like the hottest you'll feel in America since the California wildfires of 2018.

The opening day was horrible

A Disney park or attraction should open with awesome ceremonies, celebrations, theming, and perfect execution. But that's not the case with this.

When Toy Story Land opened on June 30th, 2018, fans woke up early in the morning and formed huge crowds. They waited 4 hours to get into the land in the hot, shadeless, humid Florida heat and sun. Another line formed in the other direction to Slinky Dog Dash, which had a wait time of nearly 7 hours, mostly in the heat. The line stretched half a mile from the Chinese Theater at the center of Hollywood Studios toward the ride, so everyone who tried their luck was being roasted and burnt to a crisp.

The cast members set up a line of umbrellas to protect them and keep them cool, but they could've done much better with the land in the first place. The air circulation at the queue of Slinky Dog Dash was not enough to protect the sunbaked victims.

Many passed out from heatstroke and dehydration, though Disney gave them free water to refresh them. It's an example of low budgeting since Toy Story Land was expected to be a big and fully immersive land with lots of stuff and good execution, but they didn't do that. Instead, it's small, crammed, and hot, scorching hot.

In the middle of the day, there was a thunderstorm, and everyone was soaked and rained out, in possible danger of getting hit by lightning. Another concern was people's feet burning and shoes slightly melting in the hot concrete from standing outside for 7 hours in the line for Slinky.

The cast members worked hard and were exhausted. People who left the land were not allowed to enter again right away and had to wait in line all over again. It was almost like TanaCon all over again, with poor execution, heat, and crowds. People don't deserve to suffer like this, as that's not what a Disney trip is for.

It was just shy of Disneyland's grand opening repeating, which nearly killed people in California, except there were no gas... more

The rides are too short

For example, Slinky Dog Dash is 2 minutes long, while Alien Swirling Saucers is also 2 minutes. The longest ride there, Toy Story Mania, is 5 to 6 minutes long. If you're looking for a ride that's even remotely long enough to satisfy you, go to Toy Story Mania.
