If he hadn't have been sick he'd have been even stronger and it's pitiful that the only reason he lost in the fight against lee and gaara was because kishimoto has a bad habit of punishing anyone who aligns with the darkness. No disrespect to the other characters in the arc, they all have their own merit but kimimaro was phenomenal and that was while he was weakened and nowhere near his full power.
