Top 10 Call of Duty Games with the Best Campaigns

This list is about the best and worst Call of Duty campaigns.
The Top Ten
Call of Duty: Black Ops

It feels fresh every time you replay it. The missions are so action-packed, and the story seems like just a bunch of random flashbacks. In reality, it is all connected, and it is truly amazing watching it all unfold.

They have vehicles, amazing battles in Vietnam, tons of memorable plot twists, and amazing characters. They even brought back tons of WWII weapons for one mission to tell a continued story from the WAW campaign. I personally loved WAW to an unbelievable extent, and playing this mission for the first time gave me chills.

Call of Duty was advancing here but soon plummeted. I feel this was a campaign worthy of the peak of the franchise. Even if you are not a huge fan of Call of Duty, play it. It is more than Call of Duty. It is even above most campaigns. Truly wonderful.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

The Modern Warfare series does the best at making you hate the enemy. Modern Warfare 2 makes you just want to stab General Shepard in his ugly, traitorous face. Why, Ghost, why!?

This game was gorgeous on PS3. What many think of as the last great Call of Duty had a masterful campaign. It was creative, original, and the emotional buildup and plot twists are unmatched.

This campaign is awesome! It is full of action. This game makes me want to keep playing it.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

I'm not a huge Call of Duty fan. I just feel like other games compete on a very close level. I'm also not a huge fan of ultra-realistic combat simulators. My first FPS love was Halo: Combat Evolved. I like sci-fi fantasy shooters most, mainly because they tend to have more interesting storylines.

This game, however, is one of the few whose storyline was absolutely captivating. I beat it twice. Just now, I've started downloading the remastered version, and I plan on beating it again.

Call of Duty: World at War

This was the only Call of Duty that actually kept me interested in the campaign. From guerilla warfare in the Pacific to marching through Europe, this campaign displayed what real battle looks like, not some unrealistic jet-pack movie sequence like the newer campaigns.

Call of Duty went back to its roots with this game while keeping the narrative, cinematics, and gameplay style that made Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare so popular. The combination really pays off with this being my favorite campaign in the series. A lot of memorable moments.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II

One of the most fun campaign experiences in all Call of Duty games. The story was pretty good, the setting was decent, the characters were interesting, and the missions were exciting.

You could choose your loadout, had branching paths to the story, had secrets hidden here and there, and it had optional side missions. Probably one of the best campaigns in the whole series, it should be around the top 3.

Following the story set in BO1 was fantastic. Seeing Mason's son, witnessing Woods age, and experiencing these characters again in a new fashion brings in a memorable, nostalgic, and new experience.

Not to mention the different paths and endings this game has. It adds replay value alongside another feature I'll talk about below. With optional side missions and branching paths, it felt like you really made a difference in the story.

One of the most defining aspects was choosing your loadout, in which you unlock weapons as you progress through the story or complete special objectives in each mission. Of course, you could also choose perks, but generally the starting perk "Access Kit" was the most fun since it gave you special weapons in each level. It should've been the last perk, to be honest.

Overall, one of the best campaign experiences in the whole franchise. It should get more love, in my opinion. Sorry for making this too long. I crave the day I get to play that campaign again.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

What I like about this campaign is the diversity of mission locations. Unlike COD4, where you're mostly in the Caucasus Mountains, this game puts you in Sierra Leone, New York City, Somalia, Berlin, Paris, London, Hamburg, and Prague.

The campaign was just so memorable. It improved in nearly every aspect with amazing progress and storytelling. Everything was detailed, and the ending, like always, was intense, unique, and unforgiving.

This campaign has special moments like sniping, tanks, helicopter jumps, and more. However, this campaign has a lot of recycled stuff from MW2. This point is disappointing.

Call of Duty: Ghosts

Call of Duty: Ghosts really wasn't that great of a game. I personally hated Extinction, and the multiplayer was meh. But if you ever get Ghosts, you should get it for the campaign. I really loved it. Through the story, you slowly get to know the characters, and of course, Riley, the dog, was a pretty awesome addition. The story gets really emotional, and the cliffhanger made me pretty darn mad.

I was really hoping for a Ghosts 2. With the critics from the community and fans, they could make the multiplayer a lot better and continue the thrilling story.

But of course, there's the childish Call of Duty community that burns the whole game to the ground, saying they want something new. Well, that's what they got when Ghosts came out, and now we're here: Seeing Call of Duty burning for its faults, having to make a Star Wars 2.0 called Infinite Warfare. That, my friends, is where the community is coming back in to give their very negative 'opinion' by burning everything about the game.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

By far... I will say again, by far the best campaign. I actually felt that emptiness you feel when you finish your favorite series.

Multiplayer is not bad at all, no major problems with it, just the hate because of the space theme. Is this not what the community asked for? Guys, we have a new Call of Duty every year! See through the cloud of hate, and realize how good the actual game is.

This is the second campaign that actually makes me feel for the characters. It is so deep and intricate. The characters are amazing, and even Ethan, a robot, makes me feel for him. The end of this campaign is really saddening to me. MW3 is the other campaign that was good. Say what you want about this game, but the campaign is amazing.

Call of Duty 2

So much nostalgia! No silly stealth missions where the unrealistic one-man-army aspect of Call of Duty really shines through, just combat, big battles, and the most World War II you will get in the Call of Duty series. Also, it didn't only take 5 hours to complete, which is nice.

The campaign is so simple that it's awesome. I loved missions like the pipeline and repairing the telephone wire.

This game is supposed to have the best storyline in Call of Duty history. Simple and sweet.

Call of Duty: WWII

Definitely in my top 3 favorite Call of Duty campaigns. You grow connections to so many characters. I can't really put into words how I felt about it all. I guess the best way to put it is: I felt like I was actually in this war, fighting alongside my brothers.

Aside from the campaign, the multiplayer experience is finally fixed after 3 years of nonsense. Instead of loot boxes dropping stat-altering items, it's all fair. Instead of saving up 30 credits, you earn them as you play. You can still buy them for Call of Duty points, but there's not enough in the loot boxes to make it worth it to someone to blow hundreds of dollars to unlock every loot box item. If you like collections and want to get them all the fast way, go for it and spend hundreds. It won't affect how you do in matches, so good luck to you out there.

Zombies is pretty interesting as well. I'll let you guys figure that one out on your own.

The Newcomers

? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

This campaign is really cool. It makes you actually feel like a normal boots on the ground soldier and not an invincible super soldier!

? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
The Contenders
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

The story was awful but fun. I can't say I didn't have a good time! Kevin Spacey's performance was spot on, even though his character became Hitler in the end and declared war on the world by threatening every world leader at a UN meeting right after getting accepted into it (stupid). I just thought the story was lazily written. The gameplay definitely makes up for it, though!

I think the reason why people hate this game is because all you do is be like Robocop and hire one of the guys from House of Cards (or House of Cods, get it) with eyes that don't blink during gameplay (which is still funny). But personally, I think this is one of the best Call of Duty games ever since MW2.

Everyone ready for Black Ops 3? How do I know Black Ops 3 is the next Call of Duty? Because Call of Duty released a teaser of the game yesterday. It is hard to find, so go check it out.

Call of Duty

I bought this game back in 2005 when the multiplayer was still extremely active. The campaign was just like any other first-person shooter at the time, except Call of Duty's had three different parts. There is an American campaign, a British campaign, and a Russian campaign.

The Russian campaign is the most memorable, as the missions are the longest and most dramatic out of all the campaigns. The American campaign is probably the least memorable out of the three, as the missions are broad and quite short. The British campaign is long, but it doesn't include any super action-packed scenes. The guns available in the game are amazing compared to any other first-person shooter made around 2003.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III

Black Ops III is the only Call of Duty game that has a true narrative behind it. Filled with mystery, it pulls you in for more with a massive revelation at the end. The plot can be confusing for some, and it's not aimed at your traditional Call of Duty crowd. The BioShock-like mechanics are also worth a mention.

The multiplayer is by far the fastest-paced in the series and does a good job of ridding the game of campers. Overall, this is by far the best game in the series.

Very interesting campaign. I thought, Oh, bad guy we kill, but no. After we kill the bad guy, we get some wicked inception.
