Best United States Capital Cities

The Top Ten
  1. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I love it! There is so much to do! But I gotta say, I'm actually pretty surprised it's this high, just because a lot of tourists don't come here often. But there should be a lot of tourists!

It's better than trashy Memphis and more exciting than Knoxville. It has grown a lot, with many bars, hot chicken, and things to do. Good luck affording it.

Memphis is trashy, meanwhile, Nashville is cleaner, tastier, and louder!

Very organized, clean, and beautiful compared to Memphis.

Denver, officially the City and County of Denver, is the capital and most populous municipality of the U.S. state of Colorado. The city serves as the economic and cultural center of the Denver metropolitan area. Denver was founded in 1858 and was incorporated on November 7, 1861.

It's a hip city, really beautiful, really chill. Mountains, bars, good food, chill vibes.

  6. Albany, New York

It's kind of boring and cold, but I'm sure it's more affordable than a lot of New York. It has beautiful outdoors and a somewhat growing economy.

  9. Sacramento, California

As Sacramento gets larger, Midtown continues to have that old-town feel. It is one of the most diverse cities I've been to, and people get along well. Within 2 1/2 hours in every direction are some of the most beautiful cities, oceans, mountains, and ski resorts.

The city itself has more trees and greenery. However, with climate changes, winters are warmer, and summers get hotter every year, with some summer days climbing as high as 107 degrees. However, the spring and fall seasons are the most desirable.

I've lived in Sacramento most of my life and have all my family within 5 miles.

Sacramento is a very nice place to visit. If you see the capitol, it will kind of remind you of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

I'm from Chicago, and Chicago is very beautiful, but my family is from Sacramento (besides my parents). I was born in Sacramento, CA, and I got a tour of it yesterday. It was beautiful. Downtown is beautiful, and the arena is cool. Sacramento is an amazing memory I won't forget, and I want more people to know about Sacramento and Chicago.

  10. Madison, Wisconsin

I just toured the Wisconsin Capitol in Madison. Definitely the most beautiful Capitol I have been in.

  12. ?

    Providence, Rhode Island

  13. ?

    Topeka, Kansas

  14. The Contenders
  15. Boise, Idaho

  16. Austin, Texas

One of the biggest live music scenes in America and some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Also as green as San Francisco and Portland. Austin is truly a weird experience, considering the liberal style in the middle of Texas.

Trust me, Austin isn't just the best city in the South, nor just the best capital, but one of the best cities in America.

I seriously voted Austin because I'm from Texas...and um, I don't need a second reason. Long live Texas!

It's the capital of Texas! Therefore, it is bigger and better!

Baton Rouge is the capital city of the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is located along the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. The city serves as a major industrial, petrochemical, and medical center in the southern United States.

  18. Columbus, Ohio

I moved here from Atlanta, and I have made more friends here in 2 years than I made in Atlanta in 5. Columbus is an awesome place. There are a lot of beautiful areas, even in the inner city. The college vibe here is amazing, especially during an Ohio State game.

Great shopping at Easton, Polaris, and Tuttle Crossing. Amazing schools and college-oriented. It's also halfway between Kings Island and Cedar Point Amusement Parks. I love Columbus.

Light years from being a "Cow Town." Great downtown. Great college atmosphere. Employment opportunities galore. Plentiful upscale shopping. And of course, O-H!

  19. Augusta, Maine

  20. Richmond, Virginia

  21. Raleigh, North Carolina

It's a fine capital city located next to Research Triangle Park and within 30 miles of three top-tier universities (NC State, UNC, Duke). It has a high level of education with a median salary of $70,000, and it has plenty of great jobs.

Although those who represent the districts of NC on Capitol Hill sometimes make national news for controversial decisions politically, most people feel their voice is heard and respected.

Growing city, still affordable...I think. Good food, nice people, nice weather, and a lot of jobs.

  23. Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is the capital and largest city of Massachusetts. Founded in 1630 by Puritan settlers from England, it is one of the oldest cities in the United States.
