Best United States Capital Cities

The Top Ten
1 Washington, DC
2 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I love it! There is so much to do! But I gotta say, I'm actually pretty surprised it's this high, just because a lot of tourists don't come here often. But there should be a lot of tourists!

OKC has come up light years since 1990. The Bricktown area (entertainment district) is awesome.

3 Honolulu, Hawaii Honolulu is the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Hawaiʻi. It is an unincorporated part of and the county seat of the City and County of Honolulu along the southeast coast of the island of Oʻahu.
4 Phoenix, Arizona Phoenix is the capital and most populous city of Arizona, with 1,626,000 people. It is also the fifth most populous city in the United States, and the most populous American state capital, and the only state capital with a population of more than one million residents.Phoenix is the anchor of the Phoenix... read more

It's warm and affordable. Not that much to do, but if you like swimming pools, golf, and Mexican food, then why not?

Capital of the most free state in the entire nation.

5 Nashville, Tennessee

It's better than trashy Memphis and more exciting than Knoxville. It has grown a lot, with many bars, hot chicken, and things to do. Good luck affording it.

Memphis is trashy, meanwhile, Nashville is cleaner, tastier, and louder!

Very organized, clean, and beautiful compared to Memphis.

6 Denver, Colorado Denver, officially the City and County of Denver, is the capital and most populous municipality of the U.S. state of Colorado.

It's a hip city, really beautiful, really chill. Mountains, bars, good food, chill vibes.

7 Albany, New York

It's kind of boring and cold, but I'm sure it's more affordable than a lot of New York. It has beautiful outdoors and a somewhat growing economy.

8 Indianapolis, Indiana Indianapolis, the capital of Indiana, is known for hosting the Indianapolis 500, a famous car race. The city's White River State Park offers green spaces and cultural attractions like the Indianapolis Zoo and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. Gorgeous and clean, I love Indy. We have the Indy 500, and we are the home of basketball. Gotta love it here.

Best city ever. Glows better than any other city in the country.

9 Madison, Wisconsin

I just toured the Wisconsin Capitol in Madison. Definitely the most beautiful Capitol I have been in.

10 Atlanta, Georgia Atlanta is the capital and most populous city in the U.S. state of Georgia. With an estimated 2017 population of 486,290, it is also the 38th most-populous city in the United States.
The Contenders
11 Boise, Idaho
12 Sacramento, California

As Sacramento gets larger, Midtown continues to have that old-town feel. It is one of the most diverse cities I've been to, and people get along well. Within 2 1/2 hours in every direction are some of the most beautiful cities, oceans, mountains, and ski resorts.

The city itself has more trees and greenery. However, with climate changes, winters are warmer, and summers get hotter every year, with some summer days climbing as high as 107 degrees. However, the spring and fall seasons are the most desirable.

I've lived in Sacramento most of my life and have all my family within 5 miles.

13 Austin, Texas

One of the biggest live music scenes in America and some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Also as green as San Francisco and Portland. Austin is truly a weird experience, considering the liberal style in the middle of Texas.

Trust me, Austin isn't just the best city in the South, nor just the best capital, but one of the best cities in America.

I seriously voted Austin because I'm from Texas...and um, I don't need a second reason. Long live Texas!

It's the capital of Texas! Therefore, it is bigger and better!

14 Raleigh, North Carolina

It's a fine capital city located next to Research Triangle Park and within 30 miles of three top-tier universities (NC State, UNC, Duke). It has a high level of education with a median salary of $70,000, and it has plenty of great jobs.

Although those who represent the districts of NC on Capitol Hill sometimes make national news for controversial decisions politically, most people feel their voice is heard and respected.

Growing city, still affordable...I think. Good food, nice people, nice weather, and a lot of jobs.

15 Baton Rouge, Louisiana
16 Columbus, Ohio

I moved here from Atlanta, and I have made more friends here in 2 years than I made in Atlanta in 5. Columbus is an awesome place. There are a lot of beautiful areas, even in the inner city. The college vibe here is amazing, especially during an Ohio State game.

Great shopping at Easton, Polaris, and Tuttle Crossing. Amazing schools and college-oriented. It's also halfway between Kings Island and Cedar Point Amusement Parks. I love Columbus.

Light years from being a "Cow Town." Great downtown. Great college atmosphere. Employment opportunities galore. Plentiful upscale shopping. And of course, O-H!

17 Augusta, Maine
18 Richmond, Virginia
19 Montpelier, Vermont
20 Salem, Oregon
21 Boston, Massachusetts Boston is Massachusetts’ capital and largest city. Founded in 1630, it’s one of the oldest cities in the U.S.

Boston is one of the oldest cities in the U.S.A., with nice museums, MIT, Boston College, and Harvard. It is also home to the Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins.

22 Des Moines, Iowa
23 Lincoln, Nebraska
24 Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Harrisburg is a beautiful capital. It has a lot of beautiful buildings.
