If there was one infamous 3-1 series collapse after 1986, it was this one. Cubs waited 68 years for a chance to play in the World Series. They we're 5 outs away and this was game 6, 5 outs away. Oh, how faith can throw a curveball. But for Marlins fans, it was a different view, it was an underrated team that didn't belong this deep in the series, but with help from Josh Beckett, Luis Castillo, Dontrelle Willis and Brad Penny and Ivan Rodriguez, these Marlins beat the odds and went on to their 2nd world championship.

The Contenders
11 1958 Milwaukee Braves - World Series vs. Yankees
12 1986 California Angels - LCS vs. Red Sox

No doubt this was the saddest 3-1 team to blew a lead in any series. Game 5 was to be the Angels date with destiny, a 5-2 lead was helped by Bobby Grich's great home run off the glove of Dave Henderson, yes remember his name. Because the Red Sox came back cut it to 5-4. Now it was the 9th inning, and Donnie Moore was pitching and then it was 2 outs and then one strike away, one strike away from that date with destiny. But it wasn't as Dave Henderson hit a 2-run home run that silenced the Angels crowd and the Angels would have to wait 16 years to get that one strike away for their date with destiny.
